Who: Kaidan Alenko
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Marsiva
When: Today
Action
[Kaidan doesn't panic like most people would, but it would be a bold-faced lie to imply that waking up on the Marsiva did not come as a shock. The ship runs as silently as the Normandy, so at first he doesn't quite realize he's somewhere else entirely, but opening his eyes dispels that illusion quickly. He's on his feet in seconds, eyes wide and alert]
What the?!
[But the outburst ends there. Having a temper tantrum wouldn't change anything, after all. Instead, he switches to calmly assessing the situation. His armor is piled near the end of the bed and he sets himself to methodically gearing up, inspecting each piece before strapping or snapping it into place. The onboard computers seem to be functional, but his omni-tool and guns are gone. Not surprising for a kidnapping, but it makes him feel naked even with the armor. He lifts a hand to the back of his neck in another moment of mild panic for his implant port, and finds it in place nestled among the bristle of hair. Just to be sure, he flares his biotics experimentally, a shimmer of blue crackling briefly over his body. N
Not disarmed entirely then. Good.
With that, Kaidan moves to get a better look at his prison]
Broadcast
[Some time later, Kaidan sits in mess hall with his communications device, giving it something a skeptical leer. Physical keyboard...how antiquated. It feels a little strange, but it's nothing he can't deal with.
The idea that he's been cut off from anyone and everything he's ever known, however, less so.]
This is going to a shot in the dark but, is there anyone from Earth or the Systems Alliance here? This is Major Alenko, requesting a sitrep. Or...anyone really. I don't think who we work for matters a hell of a lot right now.
[Except maybe Cerberus. He can't shake the idea that the Illusive Man is to blame for this somehow, but he'll take what he can get.
He lets out a restrained sigh of frustration.]
Look...somebody has me confused with an extranet celebrity and I'm not...I'm not that guy. And if this about the war...I'm just one man. It won't stop us. It won't stop Shepard. So I don't know why I'm here.

Sitrep is; we're on a reality video series, I guess? We can't leave. You'll be assigned on a ship later in the week.
video
That seems to be the party line, but there has to be more to it...
video
I'm still pretty new myself. At this point your guess is as good as mine. [She shrugs.] I do intend on finding out as much as I can, though.
video
If there's any chance of it getting me back home, I'm right there with you.
[He hesitates visibly]
Look...uh...don't take this the wrong way, but, uh...are you an AI?
video
[I'm confusing, she thinks. She's never really had to explain herself in too much detail, even those she had met in the Box were already familiar with Exos because of Argos. Turns out it's really hard to describe yourself when you're not even sure quite what you are.]
video
Where was Liara or Tali when he needed them?]
Sounds like. Sorry. I guess I was just...curious? [He's not sure either] Maybe let's start simpler. Do you have a name?
video
Betamax-8! And you?
video
Kaidan Alenko. [Awkward smile] Good to make your acquaintance.
Are you, uh...from Earth?
video
At least, that's where my Ghost found my body.
[Cheery conversation, huh?] What about you?
video
I'm from Earth. Vancouver...to be specific. [Which...after Betamax's answer, seems almost comically normal]
video
Where is that?
video
Re: video
Time doesn't work the same here, does it? The Canada I know doesn't have any people in it. At least, not human people. Living human people.

He tries in vain not to imagine that Betamax's world isn't what his will become in the event they lose the war and the Reapers continue their cycle of genocide.]
[He lets out a stilted laugh.] There were still living, breathing humans in Canada last I checked. [Though boy could that change soon] Assuming there's a record...what year is it on your Earth?

[So no point in speculating about his possible dismal future.]
So are there other, uh, people like you on Earth?

[He lets out a bewildered laugh] Yeah, sure. Plenty. Though these days more people think about themselves as 'Human' first.

[She listens, watching him curiously, perplexed. She didn't have that sort of connection to fall back on, and she doubted any of her fellow guardians did either; they all had to find other reasons to fight, other motivations.]
What's that like?
no subject
[Having a family? Having a home? Knowing what trees look like? He has no idea.]
no subject
Family.
no subject
I don't know. It's probably about as difficult to explain as who you are...[But he'll try, after a thoughtful pause]. Family is different to a lot of people too. Not everyone gets along with theirs, but...I guess it's something to be connected to. Something that's yours. Like friends, but nothing can ever change it. Family is always family.
