[Oh hey....dude he's...seen in Carl's memories. Well. This isn't weird at all. (Not in the least because he's seen Rick's wife die....)

Sayid is heading from the cargo hold to his room when he comes across Rick. He pauses for a long moment, clearly slightly surprised, before he approaches the man.]

New crewmember?

[ Looking up, Rick placed the notepad and pen in his pocket for the time being. ]

That's right. Rick Grimes. [ He held out a hand, attempting to offer a small if a little tight smile. ] Taken it you've been here awhile?

Sayid Jarrah. [He takes the offered and shakes it, and then nods.] Several months, at least.

[After that his attention strays to the notepad in Rick's pocket, before he looks back up at him.]

Making a survey?

[ Returning the hand shake, he kept it firm but not too painful. Dropping the hand a few moments later, he gave a slight shake of his head. ]

Figured it'd be helpful to know when things start changin' or somethin' don't look right. If we've got records we'll know better. [ Especially with the whole augment business going on. ]

[Sayid nods, looking interested.]

You're not wrong. I've yet to hear about the Atroma changing the ships themselves, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they eventually tried.

[This all bodes well for Rick being a useful member of the crew. Sayid appreciates that.]

[ Pulling out the notepad again, he held it out for the other man to take and look it over to see if he wanted to add anything. ]

I've heard plenty of the augments doin' things and there might be changes that others aren't even aware of because of 'em. Just lookin' might not help if they can shift things around in our minds.

Mmm, that's reasonable.

[Sayid accepts the notepad, flipping through to see what Rick's noted down already.]

I also haven't heard of them doing anything actively malicious, although that's not a guarantee that they won't in the future.

[If only he knew about how people were made to forget the little things they learned while on the Marsiva during Calibrations.]

[ Rick gave a shake of his head, mind whirling with all kinds of things and it disturbed him to know there were others who could actively mess with all of their recollections. ]

I'd think messin' with our minds is malicious enough. They can make us not know somethin' then later on we know it. We've got some skills we might not remember havin' and -

[ He shook his head again. ]

Best to try and keep on top of it.

[It probably should strike Sayid as malicious, the fact that they can do that at all. It's just that he's had experiences now with non-human beings that were very actively malicious. Death and torture, played as a game. It slightly readjusted his worldview.

But Rick isn't wrong, and he nods. After reviewing the information he does make an additional few notes before handing it back. Not many though.]
