Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm curious: how many of you received augments that aligned with what your interests were at home? My brother and I are both really into robotic engineering, but he's an engineer and I ended up with lab support. Considering that the last big project I finished was a nursebot, I can't help but feel like Atroma's playing a joke on me. :P

Other than that... any guesses what our next stop is gonna be like? I'll buy lunch for whoever guesses it right.

I wouldn't say it exactly aligns with my interests back home, but I was studying medicine the last place I was- so I suppose getting lab support still counts for being in my interests.

[Not like there's many jobs for an Exorcist to do in space anyway.]

I did! Well, on a bigger scale than what I usually do but it's all the same when you get down to it. Pilot here.

So was the nurse part of the bot just for fun or trying something new or?

And it was sort of a personal + school project. The "nurse" part was the reason for the bot in the first place.

Oh, that's a pretty good question, actually! Now that you mention it...I'm an engineer too, but engineering isn't really my set skillset back home either. I'm just a NetNavi...things are on a virtual level. I'm still trying to get used to working on the outside of computers instead of the inside!

A nursebot, though? That sounds really impressive! At least there's nothing really stopping you from still engineering things here too, even if you're lab support...it sounds like you know your stuff!

Nah, not at all. [ he sounds a little amused, though, and maybe like he's laughing at himself. ] It's just how I'm used to keeping up with my friends at home, I guess. We do a lot more text messaging and emailing than video calling. [ not that they don't send video messages occasionally, but even with technology having advanced as far as it has for him, text remains the more convenient medium for casual, asynchronous conversation. ]

I did work on cars, back home. Not professionally, just as a hobby. But that's about as far as I took the engineering thing before I got here.

I was assigned the "Tactical Support" augment. However, what exactly that means I do not know yet. I was told it likely has something to do with combat, but I assume it will inform me of the specifics when it becomes necessary.

As to my interests back home... Yes, I suppose I do see how they align. But if Atroma bases these augmentations on our skills or professions back home, that could mean that Atroma's been watching us for some time would it not?

That's not really surprising though, is it? Unsettling, but not surprising. It pulled both me and my brother here, so it's not as if selection is random. The odds on that are impossible. I was brought here probably a few seconds before I died, too, which seems just as deliberate.

Hello, Tadashi. I don't know if you remember me, but this is Dr. Crusher. We met briefly after the attacks.

I'd say the lab support augment is suitable for me, however, I believe am a bit of an unusual case in the fleet. You see, I'm already a doctor aboard a starship in my world. Much of the technology and ship's operations here are roughly equivalent to, or sometimes behind, that of my ship at home, so the difference the augment makes for me is more subtle.

I also have been meaning to contact you, after talking to both your brother and Ino. I'd love to hear more about your nursebot, since I have an interest in robotics as well!

Hmm, I suppose mine aligns with what I did. My job in my world is, in loose terms, about protecting people, and I was given security. In that sense, my assigned augment fits perfectly.

I wanted to help people, but I had no sort of formal training. I don't really now, either, but I guess that's what the augment's for.

I've been piloting planes for a while now at home, and did enough training to be ready to handle a space craft before I got here. You'd think they'd play the joke on ME, but nope. Got the pilot augment.

I guess this means I've ascended to a higher plane!
