[lo and behold, we have video!

[commander is, for once, not in his gear. though he's in a simple t-shirt, he's holding the camera with his metal arm, making it hard to see it. you might be able to catch a glimpse of shine where his shoulder closest to the camera almost comes into view, but that's it.]

So I've talked to a few of you about doing some physical training and learning how to defend yourself. If you wanna come test it out, head on over to the Golden. I'll meet you in the cargo hold, and we can see what you're made of.

I'm holding back because I could kill you if I didn't, and this is a sparring match. If you were a guy, I'd do the same.

[he's being honest there, at least. he doesn't like hitting women, but he's had to before.

[he moves to switch directions; he knows there's an opening there, but he wants her to take it.]

I can respect that, definitely. Just making sure where we lie on the chivalry vs reality spectrum here.

[ She sees the motion, her breath hitches in anticipation, and she goes for it. Pushes off her strong side, dives in to take his arm and unbalance him while he's switching his footing around. ]

[she'll touch his arm--and then feel it tighten while he puts an extra bit of swing to his spin. he'll have her tossed off his hip if she doesn't pull back in time.]

[ Pulling back is half the problem. She tries and uses her power to tip away but they're already in a tangle. Rather than get herself caught up, she simply rolls with the toss and comes out on two feet and one hand to hold herself up before she crashes into the floor. ]

Man, I should have seen that.

[ She takes a breath, and it's an opening just before she stands to regain her composure. ]

[he sees the opening, and he could go for it, show her just how quickly she could be killed in that hesitation--

[but he's not training her. he's sparring. this is a friendly match, and he leaves her to regain herself.]

Should've. First rule of any fight is to stay defensive--in your case, especially. You've got powers that cater to your whims instead of your opponent's, and you can use them in ways whoever you're fighting can't see coming. You could have someone flipped upside-down before they knew what hit them.

Which I have done for the record.

[ She's sloppy, but when real danger is involved, her flight-and-fight instinct is pretty wild. What she wants is to be able to pull all that training out to be more than instinct, to actually be under her control, something more than a panicked struggle that happens to work. ]

But, all right. Come at me. Watch.

[he shrugs, and switches stances. he changes direction in his circling from before, very clearly sizing her up to look for any openings.]

[ She sees that, then starts to circle back around him. Her stance isn't uneven, but it's loose and languid and ready more to dodge than to deflect. She isn't a master of it, more ready to make up for mistakes than shore them up immediately, and steps carefully. One after the other. ]
