[hey, it's Robin. he's lounging around in his captain's chair, feet up on the control panel. he's twirling something around in his fingers--it looks kind of like a glow stick? it's a glass cylinder filled with some sort of glowing, red liquid.]

Back in those casino stations, I won one of these.

[he stops twirling the cylinder. when he holds it up closer to the camera, you can see that it's capped with silver on one end. the insides seem to be bubbling a little, as if the liquid is carbonated.]

This is a Luxilizer... though most people below the surface just called them Dummy Sticks, as in, you were an idiot if you walked around the lower levels without them. They're filled with a liquid extracted from a luminescent fungus that grows in the caves of my hometown.

[he twirls it again. Robin himself doesn't seem particularly delighted about the thing, he's just casually explaining, perhaps out of boredom.]

They were originally designed as a backup light source, in case a person got lost in the tunnels. It also makes it easier for others to see them. It can get pretty dangerous down there, in the dark...

[after a pause, he grips the glowing tube and smiles at the camera.]

It's funny to me. No one where I'm from would give these a second thought, but I've learned that underground cities are not a familiar concept in most worlds.

[his only response to the insult is to cackle, delightedly.]

Oh boy. So this is an... Angels and demons thing? I'm sorry to dumb down what I'm sure is an important subject, but the whole thing is very foreign to me.

[he's tried to understand this "Catholicism" thing. but sometimes it's "Christianity"? but there's also like six other religions he's found that talk about similar things? but then they're also real people, or monsters, or creatures, or whatever, so sometimes religion doesn't even factor into it?? he doesn't know. from an outsider's perspective, demons are confusing.]

...Yeah, that cackle is very comforting. And yes it is. Because that's what I am.

Demon, all right. [despite his early comment, he looks interested, at least!] You're much more solid than the last one I met. I wonder if that's a world difference...

I'm inhabiting a body, that's how I keep a corporeal form, otherwise, yeah, I'm a lot less solid.

Oooooh. [this is a delight. he loves learning about new people. even if he's... technically known Crowley for half a year.] You know what? They did keep trying to get me to let them possess my body for an indeterminate amount of time.

I assumed it was for evil, of course, but they were quite polite about it. Charming, really.

Some demons do that. Honestly, it's too much of a bloody hassle. Having to share a body. The different people inside it just talk over one another.

[He gives a nonchalant shrug. ] Most of the ones I know wouldn't know charming if it bit them on the arse.

Hah... Well, then I'm glad to have met the couple of exceptions.

[which was a roundabout way of calling Crowley "charming", probably.]

That's interesting. There's nothing like you where I'm from, there's just "monsters". [which he says with firm air quotes, because that term tends to offend most magical creatures.] And very few of those are capable of human speech. Or not eating people.

I'll take that as a compliment, then.

Not many demons fall into the monster category. [Except Hastur. Because, seriously, fuck Hastur. ] Most are just insufferable bores.

Oh, what a shame. [the "insufferable bore" part, he means.] And you were kicked out of heaven, hm?

It happened over six thousand years ago. During the rebellion. As for if it worked out for me, I guess it means my life isn't boring. Besides, everything is supposed ot happen for a reason. That's what we keep getting told. Ineffible plan, and all that.

Oh, no no no. [his smirk goes kind of sardonic and he waves his hand dismissively on screen.] I am done with ineffable plans. None of that.

I've tried that argument, it just spin round into saying that maybe the ineffable plan makes you feel that way. There's no way around all the bullshit.

I just... [his disgust is obvious.] If I have to hear one more what-if conversation that just spins around in circles, I'm going to punch something. Someone, maybe.

I strongly suggest you don't debate with any angels, then. They'll have you going at it all fucking week if you give them half a chance. I speak from experience.

Yes, well, a lot of it has to do with the lack of free will. For most, anyway.

Is the lack of free will because everything is already ineffably preordained, or are you being way more literal?

Very literal. It's a human thing, most angels and demons don't get to have it. Even I only have a facsimile of it from spending so much time with humanity.
