[it's maybe not as attention-getting as an audio or video broadcast, but a sort of quiet advertisement goes out over the network anyway.]

Engineers or anyone with construction/mechanical skills: your assistance is required aboard the SS Red Fish. please reply if interested. or come to the Red Fish. Thank you.

[and Coil leaves the door unlocked for anyone who might happen by.

those who do happen by, or live on the ship to begin with, can find Coil feverishly tinkering away in the lab. and it appears that he has kind of rearranged things. he hes redecorated a bit.

some storage cabinets and other things along one wall must not have been that important, because they have all been dragged away or removed entirely, and he is currently struggling to remove pieces of the wall panel itself. he doesn't have the right tools for it, but that certainly isn't going to stop him. and who knows what all off this scrap metal lying around in hazardous-looking piles is supposed to be for...

so, yeah. watch your step. don't get tetanus.]

as soon as possible. there is much to be done.

then i'll get going now! let me get some things together first, but i can be there soon.

[he'll leave the cargo bay door open for visitors, but he doesn't hang around to do any greeting. maybe he's assuming that anyone smart enough to be an engineer will know to go find him in the lab, because that's where he stays, not leaving his work for a second.]

[It takes a little while for Yuya to find Coil, mostly because he figured the project would be in the cargo bay or something and got confused when it wasn't. Eventually he does find his way to the lab, and peeks in long enough to spot Coil there working.]

Hey, are you the guy who wanted to build something?

[the lab is a mess, and he's currently crouched down by where he's making a hole in the wall--increasing the mess.

looking up at the voice, he nods! and waves for his visitor to come on in.]

[It...really is a mess, and as Yuya enters he's going to go ahead and guess that it's the building. Probably. His focus is pulled towards the hole as he approaches Coil.]

What's this supposed to be?

[and Coil is happy to show him. he picks up a length of heavy chain from where it'd been lying next to him, and holds one end of it in the hole in the wall, to show where it will eventually be anchored.

because walls with chains attached to them are obviously something that every laboratory needs.]

[UM. Yeah, Yuya looks a little unnerved by that chain.]

You need me...to put that in the wall?

[the kid just nods, like he doesn't see what could be problematic about that at all.]

[Well, somebody's alarmed all the same.]

Why do you need chains there? Are you turning this place into a dungeon?

[he sighs a little bit, and shakes his head.

he doesn't have a way to easily explain beyond that, though. so, for the present moment, he's stuck kind of helplessly glancing around for something to write on, while still holding a chain in a hole in a wall.]

Uh...

[Yuya's definitely noticed that he hasn't said anything, but it's only now that he's pieced together that maybe Coil just can't say anything. He reaches down into his pocket and produces his communicator - thank goodness for cargo pants, right?]

[and since Coil's communicator is somewhere over on the other side of the room, he just... motions for Yuya's.

and if it gets handed over, he can quickly punch in a message and hand it back-- 'sometimes restraits are good like in hospitals'

also wow does he have some poor hunt-and-pack typing skills. someone is not used to convenient technology.]

Oh.

[Restraints. Okay yeah, he can buy that. He's seen that sort of thing in movies and stuff. Although...]

You really think that's going to be a problem?

[he probably should have hesitated before he nods, but... he doesn't. he can imagine a dozen instances where having restraints would be handy, so he just agrees right away.

and then punches in another little message to accompany it--

'better to have it now for when we need it']

[It's...still weird, but someone working here would know better than him, right? Coil probably knows what he's doing better than Yuya. So after another moment of hesitation, Yuya nods and sets down his toolbox.]

Okay. I'll put in the chains.

[and he doesn't exactly smile, but he does look relieved. and he follows it up with the sign for 'thank you,' which is a pretty gracious-looking gesture even if Yuya doesn't know sign language.

finally, someone is cooperating.]

[Yuya gets the gist of the gesture, and it's...well, kind of embarrassing.]

Don't thank me yet! Save it for when I'm done.

[And if he does it right, but he doesn't want to actually say that part.]

[really, Coil is happy that anyone is cooperating and helping out at all. who knew that getting people to agree to install creepy restraints would be a challenge. hmm.

and so, Coil will just busy himself with buzzing around and bringing over any tools or supplies he thinks might help with the project. also all the rudimentary plans he's sketched out.

most of it really isn't necessary, but he wants to be thorough. and he also has no idea what is and is not needed for a project like this.]

[Yuya sets to work, but everything Coil brings over starts to make him feel a little overwhelmed after a while. Augment or no, he still has to stop and think with every new tool or sketch - do I need this, is it going to help me install the chains - and he's really starting to doubt his understanding of the project. When it gets to be too much, he stands up and asks Coil directly.]

Um, hey, is all this really...am I supposed to use all of it?

[and Coil stops too, in the middle of looking through some of the standard tools that come with the ship. the one he's currently holding looks something like a pipe cutter.

he looks down at everything kind of scattered around his new engineer friend and... points to himself and shrugs? how is he supposed to know?]

[SEND HELP. But as far as Yuya knows there isn't any help coming, so he just makes a face to himself to work off some of the nervousness and tries to keep going. He has to study the pipe cutter for a moment before...]

Well, I don't think we need that thing.

[Coil looks down at the tool in his hand, considering... but tentatively puts it back.

and then he's looking back to Yuya expectantly--clearly waiting for the next instruction or hint.

because Yuya is obviously the expert here.]
