[Alex is hanging out in the galley, her socked feet propped up on the table and a glass of soda in one hand, when she switches on the video feed. Her little boom box is sitting next to her, quietly playing another traditional Earth hymn to the god Bill Murray. Enjoy that, floots.]

So. Last night as a teenager.

[She takes a sip of soda, and pauses for a second, wondering if she's about to burp.

False alarm.] What kind of reckless, immature shenanigans should I get up to before the big 2-0 gets here?

[She turns up R. Kelly, and starts singing along as she waits for a reply. What a jammin' birthday.]

Yeah, okay. Maybe I can wait till I'm, what... twenty-nine? Another decade of immaturity should be enough.

Exactly. Wait until you're desk-job age to chill out. Until then? I say live it up.

As if. I'd rather pluck out my own hair strand by strand than sit at a desk for the rest of my life.

[She smiles into the palm of her hand.]

Yeah? So you think I'm gonna be something big when I'm middle-aged?

Well, I might not know you very well yet, but somehow, I don't think you'd be happy doing anything else.

Hm. And you say you don't know me all that well.

Lucky guess. What's your big plan, then?

Well, if I ever get back to New York? I just want to get my own place and make art, to be honest. That's my back-up plan.

My family sort of has this competition thing, to see who carries on the family business. And I'm probably gonna flunk.

[She shrugs. No big deal. Sort of.]

And I totes will, as soon as I find some real art supplies.

... But you want to do it?

[he sobers just a little]

I don't know. It's pretty complicated, kind of entails a lot. [Another shruuuuug.] Like, getting the job means... keeping the abilities to do the job? If that makes sense?

... Not really? But I get it if it's hard to explain, or... if you just don't want to.

[delincuente]

Iiiii'm a wizard? And it's kind of an inherited thing.

... What. That's awesome!

[delincuente]

Yeah, I guess it kinda is. But my brother's this annoying super-genius, so he's gonna get to be family wizard, probably.

But if you lose, you lose your powers?

[delincuente]

Yep. [She pops the "p".] So we all have to have these human back-up plans. Pretty sure Justin didn't even bother to make one.

But wouldn't the magic die out that way? That's not fair...!

Yeah, wizards are basically the stupidest people ever, and their rules are crap. We can't even marry people who aren't other wizards, without forfeiting the competition.

[everydayhero]

That's dumb! You can't keep halving the number of people who can use magic, it's gonna die off.

[delincuente]

Yeah. And I'd totally like to bust in on the Wizard Council and tell that to their beards, but the me back home, all she cares about is... I don't know, magazines and Branjelina? Once I go back to being her, you can say goodbye to that initiative.

[At least for another half a season.]
