006 - Rip Van Sokka

[Sokka has finally awoken from cryosleep. He looks a little older (which, of course, he is, he's a whole 19 years now) and his hair is in disarray, but awake he is. His communicator catches him sitting upright, blinking confusedly around him as he tries to sort through three years worth of memories and try to work out where the hell he is.

After a few moments, the pieces fall into place, and he lets out a low groan, flopping back on his bed.]

Ugh. I thought I was done with this place.

[Then, he gets up, reluctantly, ties his hair back up in a pony tail, and heads up the hatch and out into the Blue Fish himself. It's like going back to a dream. Or maybe a nightmare. The familiarity is fuzzy and off, but it's slowly creeping back to him. ]

[ of course - not twenty minutes after she steps away from her overbearing vigilance of sokka's bedside, he awakes. she catches sight of him from behind, nearly dropping her gross gel protein "snack" on accident, before she... sort of just drops it on purpose and jogs toward him. ]

Sokka!

[ and this is a joyful tacklehug from behind. spirits she has missed you. ]

[KATARA DON'T WASTE FOOD.

He gives a frightened 'belaugh!!!', before turning around and returning the hug. Oh wow. Yeah. The whole gang's here, too. ]

What, you were expecting the Cabbage Guy?

[ She knows Allen was pretty worried about Sokka being unconscious or whatever, and it's nice to see him up and at 'em again.

Except. From what she can see from the broadcast, he's very clearly ... much older looking than he was before. Which prompts her to let out a very frustrated: ]

Oh, come on!

[ WHEN IS SHE GOING TO STOP BEING STUCK LOOKING SIXTEEN DAMMIT ]

[Allen was at the kitchen table, reviewing the network and autopsy reports about the bugs as he drank a cup of tea. And you know, munched on whatever snacks he thought he could sneak without using up the supplies. Tim looks like he's dozed off in an empty fruit bowl.]

[When Sokka walks in, he looks up. There's surprised, and there's relief that he did wake up- but something pops into Allen's notice right away]

- Did you get older?!

[THIS IS UNFAIR]

[He recognises her. What's her name again? Irene? Eynoo? Oh wait, wait. ]

...Ino?

[Yeah, he's sure that's it. ]

It's great to see you, too. Really. Don't overcrowd me with affection or anything.

[ are you seriously calling that junk food

seriously ]

No, but - you've been asleep for ages.

[ not that she was worried or anything. bluh. ]

[And out of another, nearby hatch pops Toph!]

Sokka, you're awake!! [She sounds happy and relieved. D'awww.]

[Sokka yelps, backing up a little because wow, did some crazy stuff happen while he was asleep. He blinks, before looking at his own hands. ]

I- yeaaaaah? It's been three? Yeah three years. Which I'm guessing it hasn't been here? What with the fact none of you are older?

[Sokka, Sokka no.]

[ Oh, right. She drags a hand down her face and sighs ]

Uh -- sorry, that wasn't directed at you.

[ Mostly Atroma. Fuck you, Atroma. ]

Are you feeling alright? Looks like you went home for awhile.

[OH SWEET SPIRITS WHAT'S HAPPENING WHERE DID TOPH COME FROM WHAT HAPPEN?!!!

Sokka tries and fails to regain some composure after the not-manly shriek he emitted from her popping her head out. ]

Unless this is a really complicated sleepwalking, yeah. Hi Toph.

It's good to have you back! [Really, he's her best friend. She's happy.]

Allen told us you'd fallen asleep or something, and that worried some people. [Herself included shh.] What happened?

A: Kitchen (Sokka):
[ Despite the uh, profusion of weirdness that has been the last month, one constant remains. One pure, immutable truth the crew of the Blue Fish can always reach for no matter how dark* the skies may seem.

And that is that the cats still have to eat. So Hawke is in the kitchen, doing that. Slay has a new trick, and that is that he no longer bothers to stand up right to eat. He just lies down next to the bowl and scoops food into his mouth from that angle. Hawke isn't sure if he's amused, impressed, or wisely living in mortal terror that the next step is 'you must hand feed me, human.'

Anyway! He's there, regardless, lounging against a counter. His perpetual state of 'everything is a surface for me to lean on' is ...also a constant.

* ...it's space, that's pretty dark ]

I thought naps were supposed to make a person look all well-rested and everything. Not send you barreling toward the twilight of old age.

[ Yes, old age. Hawke is like fifteen years older than Sokka, by the way. ANYWAY he's glad Sokka is conscious and everything but of course...a nap. That's what we're calling it. No one was concerned, shut up. ]

B: Med Bay (Beverly + ...OTA? do we hang out in the Med Bay for fun now? ANYWAY I AM ABUSING THIS FOR ITS MINGLE CAPACITIES)
[ Speaking of the recent profusion of weirdness. Hawke doesn't actually have any injuries ~~anymore~~ from his glorious adventure in the bowels of the bug ship, but possibly he brought back a whole ARRAY of ...glop. And legs and pincers (...if they have pincers) and mandibles and--look. Bug parts. He's coming to check on those. Second prompt, same as the first: he drapes himself up against the doorframe once he's inside. Hi, Bev!

If she wants to fuss he could at least pretend to be injured. ]

[Fortunately for Sokka, Kairi was already starting to prep for the next meal when he's awake. By now she's come to differentiate between everyone's footsteps, and her head pops up when she hears Sokka's. His footsteps are more of a shuffle than normal, but considering he's been unconscious for days...

Kairi knows he'll eventually make his way into the kitchen. In the meantime, she smiles to herself and goes to drag out a frozen chunk of beef. It'll be burgers tonight.]

[How he phrases that remark just gets a LOOK. No shit he didn't get older he never gets to]

No. It's only been about a week since you fell asleep.

[But he'll let his annoyance fade, since it's not like it's Sokka's fault he's still stuck as a teenager.]

Well, welcome back. How are you feeling?

[If he could fix it for you, buddy, he really would. ]

...That's all? A week?

[That is...so weird. ]

I'm okay. Still getting used to being in space again. How's the crew? Are you guys okay?

[Kairi you are his favourite. His absolute favourite. He eventually does make his way into the kitchen, and he smiles at the sight of delicious, delicious meat. ]

I missed you.

...You too, Kairi. Hi.

Mm, just a week.

[Honestly, he was expecting longer. He gives a little nod. Yeah. After three years, it would probably be pretty damn weird to come back.]

Understandable. The crew's alright, and Toph transferred here with the last Shuffle. We're still dealing with the bug situation.

[Sokka puts a hand to his chest and lets out a pantomime gasp. ]

You dare? I happen to be in the prime of my life. But it must be hard to see from the other side of that prvoerbial hill, so I'll let you off.

[He glances around, surprised by how happy he is to see this dumb ship. And then his eyes fall on Slay. ]

...I think your cat's broken.

Well, of course it is, it must have been so lonely and terrible without me here.

[He frowns, trying to piece it together.]

I think I went home? Pretty sure I was home. For three years. Saw your metalbending school and got hit on by that weird shoe girl and everything.

[YES. ]

That was...weird. I was home. Like...home home. For three years. I'd almost forgotten about this place.

[Of course not, he wouldn't dare suggest she was, gosh. ]

[ and this is the part where she leans back, her hands clasped on his shoulders. ]

You're older.

[ UNFAIR... seems to be the common reaction around here... ]

Oh good, I'd hate to think I did anything untoward while I was unconscious. Drooled on your favourite shirt or something.

...Yeah, three years. I'm really weirded out, actually. I thought I was home for good.

The bug what bug-

[He exhales, pinching the bridge of his nose. Right. Bugs. There was the downed ship. ]

Are they getting worse? They haven't got onto the Fleet ships yet, right?

Not yet that I know of. But...the situation's more complicated than we first thought.

[He gestures at Sokka to sit down across the table for him.]

You see, we think the bugs might have been the ones to send the distress signal. And not as a trap, either.
