I really didn't want to be the first one to say it.

[Eugene's fully aware of how new he is here, and even beyond that, he's not going to go around telling people how to handle things. But after the last several years, whatever in him might have taken more than a moment in all of this to mourn is well and truly buried. Every road he's walked since the outbreak has been scattered with the vast and awful tragedies of strangers. If they stopped to mourn, even to feel, for most of them-? Well. They'd never have made it very far themselves.]

I think . . . I think when you're uprooted, that's the step that's hardest. Without the life that you're used to going back to, it's easy to lose sight of the point where you need to close that chapter up and get back to your life. Whatever that life looks like now.
