[For a little while, there is not steady broadcast. It cuts in and out long enough to show a face, a shoulder, ceilings, and maybe a wall or two, obscured by fingers covering parts of the camera. Once a while it's just audio, a few curses or other mutterings cut short. And sometimes, yes. You get incoherent keysmashes likejhdsakfhsdh and jdkl;ffnfffff.]

[Finally, it does turn on and manages to stay on, but its user seems perfectly unaware as,]

Oh, forget it!

[And down, down the communicator goes as its tossed over his shoulder. At least you can tell he's wearing nice boots before he kicks it away for good measure and sends it spinning across the floor.]

You're obviously a natural at leading. They'd probably be in trouble if it fell into less capable hands.

[ ... And now she looks amused, a little confident smirk on her lips ]

I do what I can, anyways. Next to none of us have any experience in space travel, so it's been a learning experience.

So what sort of stuff have you done already? Have you seen any aliens? Been to other planets?

[If he were sitting on a seat, he'd be at the edge of it.]

We've been to a lot of different planets and moons. And yes, they had aliens living on them. Though, honestly, most people in the Fleet are aliens to each other, too, so it's not that exciting.

I guess the casino waystation was kind of cool, though.

I missed a casino?

[There's some genuine disappointment in his voice. He's good at cards. Well, he's good at cheating at cards, but that's pretty much the same thing.]

[ino]

[ Hey, she was cheating the whole time to win what she got, soooo ... ]

Yeah, that was about a month or so ago now. We'll probably be landing somewhere new soon for supplies and stuff like that.

No idea what that somewhere will be?

[ino]

We just follow the course the Marsiva sets, pretty much. Plus, even the people who travel space normally don't seem to know where the hell we are in space, so it's kind of a toss-up.

[nextlineis]

[He appears thoughtful for a brief moment before he shrugs with a laidback smile.]

I do like surprises.

[ino]

[ A little laugh. Their last "surprise" was not so great, Jojo ... ]

Well, then you'll probably have a good time in the Fleet.

[nextlineis]

Good. I could do with a vacation. I've been doing nothing but work for the past month.

[He says it like that's been the most tiresome part of the past month, but that's a lie. Dealing with his own mortality--something still somewhat in the air depending on how Lisa Lisa's fight goes--and recent losses were the actual worst parts. But he's okay with come across as lazy over admitting or talking about any of that.]

Well, I wouldn't call this a vacation. You still have a job here, you know.

[Joseph gives a nonchalant wave of his hand, resting his chin in the palm of the other one.]

This ship seems to get along just fine with anybody running it. How hard could any of the jobs be?

[ino]

That's because that's the automated one. All the other ones with actual people on it are run by the people on it.

[nextlineis]

Ships that go in the water don't need that much work. [...Or so he assumes anyway.] Planes need even less. How complicated could it be?

[ino]

... Have you ever been on an actual ship or plane before?

[nextlineis]

Of course I have. [He says this as though mildly offended she would insinuate otherwise.] I do a lot of traveling and I do know how to fly a plane.

[ino]

Then you should know how much work it is to do all of that stuff ... ! There's all kinds of things that require upkeep, radars that need to be paid attention to, food that needs to be cooked ... so on and so forth!

And that stuff's all easy. It'll hardly take any time as long as you know what you're doing.

[ino]

Do you? What's your job supposed to be, anyways?

[nextlineis]

Pilot.

[Joseph doesn't actually know this for sure, but there's nothing in his tone or overall demeanor that would suggest otherwise. Fortunately for him, he's also actually right.]

[ino]

-- What?! Then why were you asking me if there were pilots? Of course there are if you're one of them!

[nextlineis]

[There is maybe two seconds of silence that pass because she raises a good point that pokes a slight hole in his confidence, but Joseph smooths it over.]

How am I supposed to know how common it is if this ship flies itself, huh? For all I know, I got stuck here without anything to do at all.

[ino]

[ She just sighs ]

Whatever ... the point is, you're going to have to do some work as the pilot. Especially if we run into enemy ships again, your ship will be counting on you to fly them out of harm's way.

And I will. They've got nothing to worry about.
