[Beverly woke up this morning feeling strangely... invigorated. Looser, more carefree, and dare she say it? Happier than she's felt in months, ever since she first arrived on the Marsiva. To celebrate, she decided to head for the beach.

Which is where you'll find her now, lounging on a towel and reading a book that looks suspiciously similar to the ah... literature Dorian was so kind as to read out loud to the network a while back. At the very least, there's a ridiculous picture of a shirtless burly man in a plaid kilt on the front cover. As for her, well, she's wearing a very stylish green bathing suit and a big white sunhat, thoughtfully provided by a fan (who has thankfully saved you all from seeing her in some 1980s sparkly gold monstrosity instead). No doubt if you approach her, she'll flash a blinding smile your way and cheerfully engage you in conversation. Or better yet, some fun activities! Right now, she's up for almost anything!]

Relaxing is likely a good plan, then, all considered. What do you intend to do that might be fun?

[As opposed to sitting here talking.]

I don't know yet. I've been swimming already, and I don't really know how to play volleyball.

[Drawing up her knees to her chest, she rests her chin on them thoughtfully for a minute. Then... an idea!!!]

Do you know if there's any place with music around here?

[He considers this a moment.]

I passed a small musical group at an open-air bar on my way here, if that appeals to you.

Oh, that's perfect!

[She unfolds herself and stands up, holding out one hand to Daneel.]

Why don't you come with me?

[He takes her hand with a polite nod of his head.]

As you wish, Beverly.

[He's not... quite... sure what it is she wants, but he's happy enough to follow along.]

[She helps him up, squeezing his hand happily before letting go and bending over to rummage through her bag. A moment later, she pulls out a semi-sheer beach cover up and tosses it on.]

Tell me, Daneel, do you know how to dance?

[Well, that's an unexpected question. As is being helped up but he won't complain because that would be rude.]

I have never been expected to dance. I have observed it, of course, but I've never attempted it myself.

You're in luck! I happen to be an expert in teaching androids how to dance.

[One android anyway. It's clear from her tone of voice that she is more joking than bragging.]

That is, if you're interested.

[That's a thing you can be an expert in? That's a thing there's any demand for at all, ever? Even as a joke? Still, she wants to teach him, and he doesn't want to offend by refusing.]

I would like to see, if you care to teach me.

[Hey, there's a whole universe of possibilities out there for an android!]

Wonderful! Now where is this place again? Not very far, right?

Not far at all.

[And indeed, very shortly they come up to the place in question, with the band playing to a small group of tourists and locals, some drinking or eating nearby, others dancing. Daneel turns to Beverly expectantly.]

Is this appropriate for what you had in mind?

It's not quite swing, but it'll do!

[She deposits her bag on a nearby table, then takes Daneel by the hand and leads him to the dance floor.]

We'll start with something simple. Have you heard of the foxtrot?

I have not.

[Fashions like that have fallen by the wayside, at least on Aurora. Daneel follows, all polite curiosity. He has very little idea of what to expect.]

Please, demonstrate for me.

It's a dance between two partners, so I will show you my part first, and then all you'll have to do is mirror my movements. Historically, it was always man who would lead, but that's become an outdated notion, and we usually go by who is the more experienced dancer. So!

[She steps back from him, holds her arms out as if she is holding the hands of an invisible partner, and plants her feet next to one another. As she begins the dance, making a roughly zig-zag shape towards him, she explains her movements.]

Leading with the left leg, I take two steps forward - meaning you would step back on your right leg. Then step once to the side, and repeat! Slow, slow, quick, quick.

[Now she's standing in front of him again.]

Like I said, very simple! But it's a building block for other, more complicated dances, which we'll worry about later.

[He watches, his expression very serious.]

I believe I can replicate this.

[He steps forward, moving to take her hands and fill the role of that invisible partner. He wants very much to do a good job, after all.]

Please, Beverly, lead and I shall follow.

[Oh he's so Very Serious, in an endearing way, and she has to duck her head for a moment to hide her smile, worried that he might think that she's mocking him. When she looks back up, her expression is back to neutral.]

Alright then, let's begin.

[She takes a step forward, and then another, murmuring instructions as they go, though no doubt she will be able to dispense with that soon enough.]

[Daneel is graceful; when the alternative is risk accidentally harming a human, he has to be. He's aware of her amusement, of course, but that's not a bad thing. He follows along as best he can, following Beverly's movements.]

You are quite skilled, I see.

I took dance lessons for many years, even won a few competitions when I was younger. I don't dance much anymore though.

For what reason did you stop, may I ask?

[If it's allowed, of course. He wouldn't want to pry unnecessarily.]

I simply got too busy. Medical school and my career and a baby and my marriage...

[A trace of sadness works its way through the augment glitch at the thought of Jack, but it's an old grief, one that she's more or less come to terms with.]

Not much time for dancing.
