[ video broadcast/action option ]

[ rapunzel wakes up slowly, like rising from a pleasant mid-afternoon nap that caught her by surprise. but as always, her thoughts quickly catch up with her, and all too quickly it becomes clear that something is very, very wrong. she isn't napping in her bed in her tower - she had left to go see the lanterns! if anything, she should be lying in soft grass - oh, grass, she loved the feeling of grass and this certainly wasn't it. that hadn't all been a dream hadn't? no, no, it couldn't be. it was too wonderful to be a dream!

then her eyes snap open, and a sinking sense of dread chills her to the bone. oh no, this wasn't right. this wasn't right at all.

rapunzel bolts up right, positively leaping off of the cot she's found herself in. her long, golden hair trails behind her as she breaks into a run, away from the cots and through multiple rooms. where was she? what had happened? where were eugene and pascal? maximus? where was she? ]

Eugene! EUGENE! Hello? Anybody? Oh no, oh no, please...

[ then she ends up in the large view bay, in front of a massive window that reveals her location. or at least, what surrounds her location.

she was in the stars. ]

That's - this isn't possible! I'm just dreaming! This isn't -

[ she looks out the window again, eyes wide and unblinking, stepping closer to the glass - only to trip over her own hair. startled, she yelps and folds to the ground, gathering her hair around herself like a protective cocoon. she just keeps staring out the window, her features a mix of fear, confusion, and wonderment. ]

[ yet later video ]

[ after learning a few things about this place - including that it was not, in fact, a dream - rapunzel rallies herself to address the screen that would apparently help her find out if any of her friends were here. she'd never seen anything like this in her life before, but somehow, she knows how to use it. she was glad for that.

however, that doesn't help her know what to say once the broadcast begins. so she clears her throat. once, twice. then coughs, threading her hands through a strand of hair. no, that wouldn't do! you can do this, she tells herself. she straightens her shoulders and faces the screen head-on. ]

HELLO! [ oh dear, that was kind of loud. ] Ahem - sorry. Um...hi. I'm wondering - you see, I was on my way to see these lanterns, and I think there might have been some kind of mistake. I should be at at the castle town right about now, but instead, I'm in the stars...wow, I can't believe I'm in the stars! UM - I'm looking for someone named Eug - Flynn. Flynn Rider. Please, if you've seen him...

[ then, her hand flutters to her mouth. ] Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! What was I thinking? My name is Rapunzel. It's a pleasure to meet you. Please let me know if you've seen him. Oooor if anyone's even hearing this. Okay. Um...thank you. Bye.

[And some very small and persistent part of Rogue's mind thinks: Oh no.

But she remembers the kindness another version of this girl had shown to someone she still cares very much about, so she steels herself and tries to respond.]

Don't worry. We're hearin' this.

Oh, thank goodness! [ rapunzel blows a sigh out between pursed lips. she had come to trust the goodness of strangers, and why shouldn't she? from the thugs in the snuggly duckling to this shiny new place, every new person she had met had been very kind to her. she didn't need to be nervous. she didn't need to be afraid. well - okay, maybe she could allow herself just a little bit of fear, all things considered.

but not of a kind stranger. she smiles. ] Thank you. Iii just haven't had much experience, you know, waking up in the stars. Um...have you?

[ conversation skills. ]

[Her voice warms a little. Rapunzel is so very obviously trying, and so far the sweetness has not gotten to tooth-rotting-capacity, so! Rogue bravely continues on.

...does this place even have a dentist?]

For about the past three weeks or so, yeah. [Pause a beat. Try to actually be helpful, Rogue, that would be great.] Don't worry - you're not in a place where anyone's out to hurt you. It's just... not necessarily a good place either, but you're safe enough.

[...ugh, she is so terrible at this.]

[ not a good place or a bad place...rapunzel would have thought most places were both good and bad, or at least, this is what her limited knowledge from one day in the outside world and her storybooks had told her. but safe was good. not all places were safe.

did that mean she didn't need to worry about her hair? ]

A-alright! That's good. That's VERY good. [ a beat. ] What's your name? ...If you don't my asking, of course!

[Sigh. Sigh, sigh, sigh. OKAY, HERE'S HOPING THIS TIME GOES BETTER THAN LAST TIME.

Maybe if she tries a friendly smile?]

I'm Rogue. It's nice ta meet you, Rapunzel.

[ what an interesting name! rapunzel hasn't ever heard it before - but then again, she hasn't heart of a lot of names. ]

It's nice to meet you, too! So..you haven't been here long?

[ Oh good! No freaking out. Rogue can roll with that. ]

Just about a month now, I reckon. [Pause a beat.] Maybe you'll still be able ta get down on the planet once you're shuffled to a ship. It's mostly oceans an' storms. It's pretty amazing. You can probably see it out the window.

[Playing the: Look, It's Shiny! game to distract from talking about the stuff she really hates to talk about? Y u p. Shameless, too.]

Um...

[ "shiny" games are good, but rapunzel is still a little hung up on what rogue just said. mainly, what it even means. ]

Down on the where-now? [ stars, she knows. planets? well, that's a little beyond her. as far as she knows, all the bright lights in the sky are stars.

and star-cruising sailing ships, apparently. ]

Planet? [...] ...ground?

...Oh! You mean, there's grass somewhere around here? And oceans?

[ she's never seen the ocean! ]

Yes. ..on the planet.

[What even what.]

...you know what that is, right?

Iiif it's the same thing as the ground, and grass, and ocean, then yes! Sort of. I just never knew it was called that when it's all together.

[...that was fair enough! Good, maybe Rogue wasn't as horribly out of her depth as she had feared.]

Right! An' sky too. Right now we're in a ship that's up past what's normally just blue. You're where the stars are. In order ta get back down to where there's ground an' grass, an' ocean, an' proper air again, you'll have to come to a planet.

[ that does clear things up a little bit. she knew she was up in the stars, but she hadn't really thought of that in terms of being high above the ground. or planet, as rogue called it. ]

Ooookay. So, how do I get back down?

[ she had spent too much of her life stuck above the ground, honestly. ]

Well, come the weekend you'll be shuffled off to your ship from this one. That's the place where you'll be sleepin' and livin' from now on, though if ya don't like it I hear you can request a transfer until ya find a place that suits. An' once you're on one of the smaller ships, you can get a shuttle to take you down planetside.

[There. A whole speech. Aren't you proud?]

[ maybe not proud, but extremely grateful. that does clear up a few things. ]

Aha! So as soon as I get on one of those smaller ships, I should be able to go to the planet?

[ she's missing ground quite a bit, as amazing as the stars are. ]

As long as we're still circlin' around it, yeah.

[She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and tries for a smile.]

You'll probably like it down here. Just gotta watch out for the sudden storms.

Storms? There are storms? With wind and rain and everything?

[ oh, but she's never been outside in a storm! this knowledge only increases her desire to make it down to the planet. ]

[Rogue can almost hear the 'WARNING' 'WARNING' sound in the back of her mind.]

Yeah, with wind an' rain an' everything. But these are real strong storms, an' stuff can get picked up an' thrown around in the wind. So if you get caught in one, make sure ya find a place with shelter, okay?

[/sob, this girl is going to give her a heart attack, she can tell.]

I'll make sure to stay safe! [ most...likely. it's not that she has no sense of self-preservation, but living your whole life in a tower made it difficult to learn what she should be afraid of.

her mother would have her be afraid of everything, though, so at least she's gotten over that a bit?? ]

[...this is totally going to end well.]

...tell ya what. When you come down on the planet, why don't you come an' find me? I'm stayin' there most of the time, an' you can find me in the Blue Parrot in the evenings.

Oh yeah. Because this girl is going to drown in the middle of dry land.]

[ gasp! rapunzel grins, completely thrilled with this offer, which she believes can only mean one thing. ]

Are you saying...we can be friends??

[ oh, she's always wanted (human) friends! ]

[Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh my no what aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.]

...it ain't outside the realm of possibility. Mostly, I'm sayin' I'll show you how to find shelter in case of a storm.

[ what's that you're saying, rogue? rapunzel is too preoccupied with the wonderful idea of FRIENDSHIP. ]

Oh, that's so sweet of you! I bet there are a few things I could teach you as well! Do you like to paint? Knit? Bake?
