[ rapunzel wakes up slowly, like rising from a pleasant mid-afternoon nap that caught her by surprise. but as always, her thoughts quickly catch up with her, and all too quickly it becomes clear that something is very, very wrong. she isn't napping in her bed in her tower - she had left to go see the lanterns! if anything, she should be lying in soft grass - oh, grass, she loved the feeling of grass and this certainly wasn't it. that hadn't all been a dream hadn't? no, no, it couldn't be. it was too wonderful to be a dream!

then her eyes snap open, and a sinking sense of dread chills her to the bone. oh no, this wasn't right. this wasn't right at all.

rapunzel bolts up right, positively leaping off of the cot she's found herself in. her long, golden hair trails behind her as she breaks into a run, away from the cots and through multiple rooms. where was she? what had happened? where were eugene and pascal? maximus? where was she? ]

Eugene! EUGENE! Hello? Anybody? Oh no, oh no, please...

[ then she ends up in the large view bay, in front of a massive window that reveals her location. or at least, what surrounds her location.

she was in the stars. ]

That's - this isn't possible! I'm just dreaming! This isn't -

[ she looks out the window again, eyes wide and unblinking, stepping closer to the glass - only to trip over her own hair. startled, she yelps and folds to the ground, gathering her hair around herself like a protective cocoon. she just keeps staring out the window, her features a mix of fear, confusion, and wonderment. ]

[ yet later video ]

[ after learning a few things about this place - including that it was not, in fact, a dream - rapunzel rallies herself to address the screen that would apparently help her find out if any of her friends were here. she'd never seen anything like this in her life before, but somehow, she knows how to use it. she was glad for that.

however, that doesn't help her know what to say once the broadcast begins. so she clears her throat. once, twice. then coughs, threading her hands through a strand of hair. no, that wouldn't do! you can do this, she tells herself. she straightens her shoulders and faces the screen head-on. ]

HELLO! [ oh dear, that was kind of loud. ] Ahem - sorry. Um...hi. I'm wondering - you see, I was on my way to see these lanterns, and I think there might have been some kind of mistake. I should be at at the castle town right about now, but instead, I'm in the stars...wow, I can't believe I'm in the stars! UM - I'm looking for someone named Eug - Flynn. Flynn Rider. Please, if you've seen him...

[ then, her hand flutters to her mouth. ] Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! What was I thinking? My name is Rapunzel. It's a pleasure to meet you. Please let me know if you've seen him. Oooor if anyone's even hearing this. Okay. Um...thank you. Bye.

[Clay's about to try and calm her down during her first video, his hands up as if he were right there with her. But he's a little caught up in just how much hair she has, and he keeps watching it as she moves all around.

Once she's seated, though, Clay gives a sympathetic smile and sits by his own camera.]

Pretty immense, huh?

Yes, it is. It's amazing, I would never have thought -

[ wait. wait a second. she whips her head around, but sees no one standing over her shoulder. which just makes her jump upright all the more. ]

Wait-! Who's there?

Over here! By the bed!

[Clay waves both arms, hoping that the movement will catch her attention.]

Heeeey!

[ catch her attention it does! not that that...really helps her figure out what's going on. she tiptoes over towards the screen, peering at it closely and carefully pressing her fingertips against the surface. ]

Oh - oh my goodness! Are you alright in there! [ she sounds rather distraught, but he appear to be trapped in there! ]

Huh? ... Oh! Yeah, I'm fine! I'm not trapped in here or anything! [Well. Technically, they're all trapped, but not in the device itself.]

It's a communication device. You look the same way on mine! [He presses his own fingertips to the surface, head tilted so that she can still see him properly.] Do you have ways to communicate long distance where you come from? Think of it like that, only way more advanced.

[ rapunzel looks over her shoulder, to make sure she hasn't become flat. how could she look to him like he does to her when he's all flat??

this is all very perplexing. ]

I've never seen anything like this before. Any of this. [ her voice softens. ] Does it hurt? Being all...flat?

Being flat would be pretty awesome. Imagine all the places you could get into! [He wonders, briefly, what it'd be like to travel space like that, but - more important things here.]

But no, I'm not flat. I'm looking at a device too, just like you! We're just far away from each other right now.

[His smile turns more sympathetic, settling in to get more comfortable.]

This is a lot to take in, huh?

[ rapunzel spends a moment dwelling on the possibilities that would come with being flat, before she focuses back in on what he's saying. ]

Um - I-I see. [ or not exactly, but how they were communicating wasn't as important as why she was here in the first place. ]

Yes, it - it is. I mean, I don't even know how to take in, because I don't even know what I'm supposed to be taking in!

Then how about we take it one step at a time? [She seems a lot more skittish about this than other people who show up, so let's take it slowly.]

First? You're in space. [Most obvious fact first.]

[ one step at a time. yes, that sounds VERY good. ]

Space? You mean - the stars?

[ she hadn't thought to call it 'space', but there was a lot of space between the stars - at least, from the ground. up here, they seemed far more numerous. ]

[For a moment, Clay almost looks heartbroken at that. How... How can someone not know about the wonders of space? What kind of cruel life has she led...?

But okay, okay, he shakes his head. Focus, Terran.]

Uh - That's a good way to put it! [How to explain this... Clay shifts in his seat as he raises his arm above his head, his gaze up at the ceiling.] Did you know that there's a whole other world up there with the stars? If you floated upwards from your world, you'd - [Pass through the atmosphere and leave the planet and gravity woud make you float effortlessly and no, simple terms, simple terms here.] You'd never stop floating, because you'd be in an entire universe of stars. Bigger than any sky you could ever dream of, with stars everywhere! More stars than you could ever imagine!

[And he smiles as he lowers his arm and looks down at the camera again.] That's where you are now.

[ her eyes widen at his explanation. it's marvelous to think about, a whole wide world full of stars that just never ended. stars were beautiful, but she had never really thought of them being beyond the night sky before. ]

That's amazing! I charted the stars from my tower, but I never - I never thought there was sky beyond them! Or - space, I mean!

[Oh man, that look. That's the kind of look he loves to see when he talks about space.]

There's so much space beyond them, and it's all beautiful. We're exploring it here, seeing just what's out there in this other world. And you won't be alone doing it! You'll have plenty of other friends to help you out!

[He's... really not sure how to explain the Reality TV thing. If she didn't know what space was nor know that he wasn't flat because of the communicator screen, then surely they didn't have any sort of television there.

Friends? I can make friends here? [ oh, that makes her face light up just as much as learning about space did. if she could explore and make friends, this place didn't sound all that bad! ]

That's wonderful! I've got to tell Eu - Flynn about this! He MUST be around here somewhere.

[ because why would she be here without him? he's her guide! ]

[Flynn? Huuh. Clay tries to think if he's met anyone named Flynn, and... he's pretty sure the answer is no.]

I haven't met anyone named Flynn yet, but yeah! I mean, we can be friends if you want! I'm Clay. And yooou're...?
