Since it seems like the Iskaulit is going to be staying with us for a while, I'm kicking around the idea of converting a room or two into a medical clinic of sorts. Since not every ship has a medbay, it'd be useful for people on those ships to have another option, or for people who want a bit more privacy if they need a checkup or to get an injury looked at.

I know our medics are stretched pretty thin, though. Would this idea be feasible? I'm not sure, but I though it was worth bringing up anyway.

With how thin we're stretched, I don't think we'd want to make it a central clinic...but I think it could be feasible if there's enough people willing and available money.

Do you think we could get that?

Or if we made it by-appointment only. That way, we could plan around one another's schedules.

We could try and win a few races to get money ;) As far as participation, I'm not sure. That's part of why I threw my idea out there, to see if there was interest.

It sounds like a good idea, if we could get people together. Any ships with two lab members might be especially helpful, since they wouldn't have to leave their own lab unattended even if one were to be away.

Seems feasible to me. Just tell me what kind of equipment to look out for, and where you'll want me when this all goes down.

Speaking as someone from one of those ships, it would be nice not to have to crash someone else's ship all the time. I'm sure I can win enough races to help you with supplies.

I was considering something like this as well... we really do not have an adequate number of beds for the fleet, should we face a fleet-wide emergency. I don't know that we have the personnel to keep a clinic on the Iskaulit open 24/7, but I'm sure we can work out some sort of schedule between all of us. Any help you need, let me know... including monetary.

Right- the staffing is my main concern. We can always get more supplies at waystations, but of course, we can't get more people. If enough are willing, though, we can find a way to make it work.

Will do- and thank you. The kind of equipment we should leave accessible to everyone is something to consider carefully, now that you mention it. Supplies as well. I'd hate for someone to try and patch themselves up and just make it worse.

I would appreciate that. I wouldn't leave things like heavier drugs or the like out, but basic wound care and first aid-type supplies would be helpful. I know we can't stop people from hurting themselves, but we can make it easier for them to patch themselves up :)

And that's part of the reason I want to do this- not every ship has a medbay, and if we've got a bunch of people who've hurt themselves, it can get a little crowded on the ships that do. If we have a room with first aid-type supplies and people with more minor injuries can take care of themselves, that would free us up for more serious cases.

I could even teach first aid if it comes to that.

That's for sure. Not that I would know anything about it. [LIES] Most people can probably handle the basic stuff enough to rub some kolto gel on their scrapes or their friends'.

Count me in, in that case. You're right, we need to make medical support more accessible for those who don't have their own and this would be a good step towards that.

Hmmm...that's an option if we only get a few. But we can see about that.

Racing money might help give us a little to start things off, but we'll need a more secure financial plan for that in the long run, if we want to keep an extra clinic stocked and in good repair. Especially if we want to continue not charging patients.

We could leave a guide for extremely basic medical care, along with those supplies. Not sure how we could keep anything locked up, but that's an option too.

What is kolto gel? We don't have that in my world.

This is true- financial security in the long run is another hurdle to jump over. I'm not sure how we'd go about raising money, though... getting enough supplies for a ship is all well and good, but this is trickier. Audience appeal would only get so much...

Allen pointed out that we'd need financial support in the long term, as well- got any suggestions? I'd hate to charge people, especially if they might be newer and not have a lot of cash to spare.

I could offer first aid lessons, too- I had to do that back home, since sometimes people would get injured and have to patch themselves up until a medical team could get to them.

My first thought was keeping more dangerous drugs and such in ship medbays, but that would be a logistics nightmare if the people with the keys weren't around... plus there would be transport time to factor in.

Some first aid classes might be a good idea. Allen and I have already made sure everyone in our crew knows the basics, but I don't know about the rest of the fleet.

It'd be worth finding out. I had to teach people back home, since teams going out on missions to remote areas would often have to take care of minor things themselves, and if it was something major, at least be able to stop bleeding or splint a broken bone until a medical team got there.

We did the same thing: everyone in Starfleet is trained for that, in case medical personnel couldn't get to them immediately. And there's even more chance of that happening here, when we don't have a full medical staff.

It's this healing stuff that comes from a planet called Manaan... not that there'd be any here. But whatever you call the equivalent.

The Stargate program did that with soldiers, I think, but the scientists got into far more danger than they were anticipating on Atlantis. And then, of course, we had allies who were native to the Pegasus Galaxy and had never seen some of our equipment or supplies before, let alone used it.

It depends specifically on what kolto gel can heal, but we have antibiotics- gels or creams that can kill harmful bacteria to speed up the body's natural healing processes and prevent infection.

No, I don't think it's a good idea either. Perhaps we could set up voluntary donations, however. We could also start selling something to raise funds, although I don't know what just yet. The only thing I can offer is bread.
