I'll try to figure out something different, in case it happens again. I don't think I would want to do that to a sentient being.

No, I don't think you would either. Maybe this incident was a good thing in the end. Now you know that you are capable of such a thing, but no one was hurt, and it gives you the chance to think and work through what this means for you.

Exactly. You're going to make mistakes, especially when you're still learning a new skill, so as long as you can keep a positive attitude about it, I think you'll be all right.
