[A glance to her and a smile, enough to distract him from his own mumbling to himself.] Hey chere, 'nd that ain't really the news I was hopin' to hear, on the whole gettin' use to it side.

Don't suppose that means we start doin' bulk take out each time we find a half decent place, try 'nd cramp it all into the fridge 'nd see how long it lasts in there.

Yeah, I understand. It's enough to sustain us, but I guess they're not overly concerned with making sure it's actual food.

[She grinned.]

Not a bad idea- and I know people are talking about trying to find a way to grow some veggies, at least. Maybe next planet will have an endless buffet and takeout containers.

Ya say we try 'nd find one of those trees people graft a whole bunch of different plants onto? Try 'nd get a fruit salad mix from one alone? Get a pretty pot to keep it in, would really liven up the whole room 'nd break up all that metal on metal on metal, non?

[Jennifer laughed.]

I'm all for it- though I have to admit I don't know much about growing plants- and I'm no great shakes at cooking them, even. I'm much better at putting people back together.

Out of those three options, I gotta say that 'm glad ya capable of the third one, be the most 'mportant of them all.

I ain't too bad a cook, if I say so m'self, just... need to work out all this merde 'nd how to make it half resemble normal food, but should be possible.

If you do, it'd be good for all of us. There are only so many ways you can mix things together to try something new without it tasting horrible.

I'm Jennifer, by the way. I'm the medical officer here, in case you hadn't guessed.

Nice to meet ya, Jennifer, 'm Remy. [As she didn't move to, Remy reached out a hand to her, unsure if it just wasn't something done as a greeting from whatever world or version of it she was from or maybe she was like Rogue and had an issue with physical contact. Either way, there was only one way to find out.]

I guess technically 'm tactical support, 'ccordin' to this thing. [Before he pointed his free hand to his augment behind his ear.] Whatever that means. Hopefully it 'long the lines of 'nfiltration like I was doin' at the last place I got dumped at.

Glad to meet you, too, Remy. [She reached out and shook the offered hand.]

Hmm- I'm afraid I can't tell you much about that. I think this is the first time we've had someone with that type of augment on the ship, and they tend to resist our efforts to find anything out about them.

Guess just find out the ol' fashion way, hein? 'nd I learnt not to go pokin' too much 'nto who ya captors be the last time 'round, just end up gettin' a headache over it all, or get 'nfo ya can't use 'nyways to help the situation, so why bother?

Just make the most of it, even if it got terrible food, [One more sad look at what the kitchen was.] 'nd a lack of smokes.

Yeah, exactly. Believe me, we've tried, but every time a doctor's tried to examine one of the augments, they start affecting us mentally. It gives you this huge sense of dread, like removing it would be a bad idea. And who's to say that feeling's wrong?

[She grinned.]

Smokes, at least, you might be able to barter for. Beware if the sponsors send you a carton, though- sponsor products tend to be a bit off in some way.

Yeah, no, I get that... Last place I was stuck in they gave us wings, ya lose those ya ended up dead. Were a real pain, literally for the first week or so. Made it more or less 'mpossible for those who were back sleepers.

Sponsors? Ya mean people be playin' ads while they watchin' us, or we actin' as the advertisin' as well as the 'ntertainment?

Wings? Really? [She sounds intrigued.] Could you fly with them, at least? Otherwise, I imagine those could be inconvenient if you're not used to them...

[She laughed.]

A bit of both- the sponsors will sometimes give us gifts of a sort, presumably in the hopes that we'll be seen using their products on camera and give them a revenue boost. This show is apparently very popular, so it is a pretty decent strategy, except for the part where the products often aren't that great. I got a crate of beer that was pretty much just water with a tiny bit of alcohol.

Sadly no, some people said they could barely glide with them but I never tested it out. [Liar, he totally did. And he was totally too heavy to do it well.

Remy matched her laugh with a chuckle.] So, ya sayin' it ain't a good idea to try 'nd suggest an item we want 'nd seein' if we get it? [As for the weak beer.] Tried reducin' it? Might push the alcohol percentage up a bit.

Seems like a waste to give them to you, then. I'd be disappointed if I couldn't even glide.

[She smiled.]

You can try- maybe you'll get a new taste sensation out of it, like the banana coffee another ship got. [She then shook her head.] No- I didn't even think about that, to be honest. Of course, now I've doomed myself to get another case so I can try.

Banana... coffee? [That... just sounded so wrong. Although, maybe able to be made into some sort of dessert? Cross a tiramisu and banoffee? Certainly not for straight drinking, but still possible to use.] Ugh.

Ah, worse case distill it down 'nd turn it into a cleaner or something. [A shrug of his shoulder before Remy asked;] If they know ya ain't likin' it, wouldn't it stop them from resendin' it? Can't be good advertisin' if people don't like the product.

Yeah- it took the crew forever to get rid of it. I mean, it was fun a few times for the novelty, but afterward... nope.

[She laughed.] You'd think so, but sometimes it feels like the sponsors have no common sense. Like, a few months ago everyone on the Fleet got some cola bottles from a sponsor with our names on them- except some of them had the names misspelled, or the soda was some weird flavor. I guess they work by the principle that all publicity is good publicity.

Ya'll ever gotten stuff that actually half decent, or be it all pretty bad? [Also, how bad was it in comparison to what came with the ship?]

Fans will sometimes send us gifts of money- and people were able to win objects from home at a casino we visited a few months back.

Ah yeah, money... forgot gotta consider that again. [It would take some getting use to again.] Use to the last place bein' everything was free 'nd there was no currency. [Then again, so far it didn't seem like he needed money for much since everything was provided for them, it was more for extra luxuries.]

Wow, really? This has got to be a pretty big change, then. Atroma does provide us with the basics here- food, shelter and so on- but money can be useful when we land on planets or need supplies.

Or stock up on that semi decent food, hein? [Remy joked, turning their conversation back to the original topic.] Yeah, heard that planets might have some of the stuff i was missin' when I arrived here. Would be nice to stock back up, even if I don't think 'll get half the stuff I use to have.

Exactly. [She nodded.] Yeah, you probably won't have much at first- you'll have to make the audience like you. They seem to like watching us go about our day to day lives just fine, so that might make you feel a bit less like a zoo animal.

Yeaaaahhh I never got the whole reality tv thing, never had a real draw for me. 'nd didn't think I was 'nterestin' 'nough to call for an audience. [Ok, that last bit may be a lie, his normal life was anything but for most people. Mutant, thief, those made for excitin' times.]

Mind if I ask what ya did before all this? [Clearly something medical related.]

Me, either. I still don't think I'm interesting enough, but, well, here I am, so I must be doing something right.

[She smiled.]

I'm a doctor, so it was at least nice to be able to pick up my old profession here.
