[Milla looks unhappy. Get used to that look, you're going to be seeing it a lot. She's outside her office and points the camera at the door where a plate reads "Milla Maxwell" and then nudges the door open to show a small couch, a desk and some chairs.]

So what the hell do I do with this anyway? And where is the food? You know, actual food? Food people eat, not this gross whatever it is! I want to make soup... And what about a tomato omelette?

[She makes a frustrated noise and goes into the office, leaving the door open and flopping on the couch. She keeps the communicator above her.]

Listen just tell me who do I contact to go back to dying? [Dryly:] At least the miasma didn't have flavoured jellies for meals.

[Yeah she's sore about everything. She drops the communicator on her chest - someone might want to tell her about where that's pointing - and chooses to sulk on her couch.]

Oh did you die, too? This sucks, huh? Oh, well, I guess most people weren't supposed to die or whatever so they'd be happy with this.

[She's... not unhappy entirely to be alive but the circumstances of everything make it hard to feel anything but bitter.]

Well, I'm... [formerly dead, but brought back to life by someone else not part of the fleet, but then brought here-] ...well, let's just say it's a long story.

But I know there's people here that never died. More like you missed out on whatever the afterlife is.

[And weren't supposed to die? That's...never the makings of a happy story. Was she sacrificed? Executed? Hm]

An afterlife, huh? [She snorts, sitting up on the couch to fold her arms.] I don't think I had one coming. [The Prime Milla was fine, so she was doomed to just fade, wasn't she? She sighs.] Well, I guess I'm stuck here now. At least someone else is too.

Why not? Don't believe in them? [Not that...Kaneis is really sure on the matter himself.]

[And rather dryly] And oh yeah, it's always nice to take comfort in the fact that other people have to endure the same crappy food as you.

[She's not really sure how to explain what she thinks was going to happen to her, though.]

...And, well, there wasn't room for me in life, I don't think the afterlife had a space, either. That's all.

[Words like that...sound a bit familiar. It sits a bit uncomfortably in his stomach. Maybe someone nicer would insist that's not true, even if he has no clue who this woman is and why she'd say that]

[But...he really doesn't know how to do that sincerely. So instead he makes a show of leaning closer to the screen, as if he's trying to get a better view - making a joke from her words]

That's strange. You sure? I mean you're curvy, but I wouldn't call you big. And that's after the camera's added the usual ten pounds...!

[Or at least, he's read that it apparently does.]

[Way to derail her off her angst train. She turns a bright red.]

Did you just call me fat?! I'll have you know I'm a petite but toned woman! Th-This camera is obviously adding at least twenty pounds!

No, no- I said curvy! Not fat! It means you have hips and stuff! You have a great body, really!

[Is that better? In theory, yes. But now she's flustered.]

[What come on Milla for a small fee it'd be a fabulous night with fabulous hair. ]

It's Milla. [She smiles.] It's nice to meet you, probably.

[He snorts] Last I heard, jury's still out on that one.

But Milla, alright. The dead lady who likes tomatoes. Or is it just tomato omelettes?

Tomato omelettes. They're my favourite food. Someone made them for me and I liked them a lot. Other than that, I used to be the Lord of Spirits but I'm just a human now.

[She flops back again, keeping he communicator held aloft.]

So what about you, Kaneis the formerly dead pervert?

Right, gotcha. [He gives a nod then tilts his head] Lord of Spirits? What's that?

[And wow, rude! A laugh escapes his throat]

Jeez- called a pervert already...! [A click of his tongue] I'm just a mercenary, can't lay claim to any lordship. [Okay he could, but not anymore really]

I do like seafood though.

Seafood, huh...? Okay! I'll keep it in mind. [She really doubts she'll find anything seafood like but maybe with her super duper mediocre amazing cooking skills she'll get something. It's a new cooking goal. She needs someone to impress.]

And well, Lord of Spirits must not mean anything in this dimension. It meant I was the ruler over all the summon spirits. But I mostly only talked to the Great Four and my sister.

[wilder]

Uh...okay! [Is she going to cook for him? After calling him a pervert? Okay, that's weird. But he won't complain! He likes food!]

Wait- you were the ruler of all the summon spirits? [Whoa] I thought that was just Origin or whatever's job- I didn't think they changed hands much.

[retconciled]

[She snorts. It's all Origin's fault that she died in the first place. Him and his stupid test.] We didn't change hands. Origin, Maxwell and Chronos share the responsibility. Origin just makes a bigger deal about it. I was Maxwell until he decided I'd done my job and took it back.

[wilder]

[Chronos? Maxwell? The name Maxwell sounds vaguely familiar, but in a way he can't quite place- like he heard it once or twice a long time ago. Chronos though definitely isn't someone he's heard before. Which was weird.]

...Huh. Didn't know that. But it's not like I'm an expert on the subject anyway.

[Maybe it was another dimension where things were different. Or she's from a time where Cruxis hadn't destroyed most of the knowledge. Who knows. Sheena was more into Summon Spirits than he was anyway]

But that doesn't seem like much fun. [Understatement really, sounds more like she got used then thrown] On the maybe bright side though, I haven't heard of any Summon Spirits being in this dimension.

[No summon spirits? Not even the fragmented worlds - as much as she hates to call them that - had no summon spirits. They were there, she knows it, just not always in plain sight. But he knows of them, even if he doesn't know all of them, so that means his world must be close to hers.

But before she gets too comfortable with the idea, she needs to find out how close their worlds really are.]

Well, if they aren't here, then that's fine with me. Origin especially! But if you know all of those, I guess we're from worlds that are close. That's a little surprising. So tell me, what's it like?

[She definitely expects it to be not hers, of course. They're all deader than she is.]

What's Tethe'alla like? [He pauses. How do you even explain your homeworld] Well...it's alright. Summon Spirits mostly stick to their temples. Which isn't so great for Flanoir that's up by the Celsius's temple, but they mostly stay out of things unless a Summoner's involved.
