I am Nyssa, daughter of Ra's al Ghul. I intend to exact justice from our captors, these — Atroma. We are not playthings, and we will not be caged forever.

I will be indebted to those who fight beside me. [ a beat ] If you intend to stop me, your defeat is not only likely, it is inevitable.

[ and the audio clicks off, but a few seconds later on again, ]

If anyone knows how to remove these implants, I would be doubly grateful.



[ Nyssa is prowling about the ship, peering into empty or unlocked rooms, in the common areas. There must be something here she can appropriate as a weapon. Her bow isn't enough. ]





[ When she finds nothing, she returns to the gym, and can be found in her League uniform (sans weapons), either meditating or going through sword kata. ]

[Ahsoka smiles at that, leaning back.]

"There is no ignorance, there is knowledge..." huh.

In a sense.

Where did you hear that?

[resnipstance]

It's a part of the Code. I... used to belong to an Order that had a very strict set of rules governing behaviour.

[sinuosity]

As do I, but I was born there; others travel there to seek inner peace and leave their previous lives behind. They take new names and swear an oath to serve my father.

[ And one day, it should've been her, but that's not how life turned out. Nyssa hasn't swallowed that bitter pill. ]

[resnipstance]

That's... the person you mentioned in your broadcast, right? What was it? ... Ra's al Ghul.

[sinuosity]

Yes. He is our leader and master.

[ It takes all her will for her voice not to waver. ]

[resnipstance]

[Well. She doesn't need to be there in person to sense a certain amount of tension in that sentence.]

... Not the kind and loving sort, I'm guessing.

[sinuosity]

[ After a short pause, ]

Father does not show favouritism, not even to his own blood. It is expected. The judgement of Ra's al Ghul must not be called into question.

[resnipstance]

That... makes a certain kind of sense, but still... ouch.

[sinuosity]

[ Nyssa hums, it's almost an amused sound. ]

It's our way. What of your Order, Ahsoka?

[resnipstance]

What of it?

The Jedi are guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.

[sinuosity]

A noble aim.

[ She might not agree that it's effective, but it's certainly noble. ]

How long have you been with them?

[resnipstance]

... I was brought to the Temple when I was three.

[sinuosity]

[ So she too has known nothing else. ]

And you've passed all your tests? I would match you, warrior for warrior. I believe there's a gym here.

[resnipstance]

... No. I didn't.

I left. [She keeps her voice carefully neutral as she says that.]

But I won't say no to someone to practice with.

[sinuosity]

You haven't. You're still one in your heart.

[ Everything Ahsoka has said so far leads Nyssa to that conclusion. ]

I will meet you in the gym. Perhaps later, once I have my bearings.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka doesn't know how to answer that-- mostly because Nyssa's right. Ahsoka is not a Jedi, and yet she is, at the same time. She's stuck in a seemingly never-ending identity crisis limbo that she doesn't know how to escape.

So she just doesn't answer it at all. Instead she just nods.]

I'll look forward to it.

[ Nyssa's waiting for her in the gym — Ahsoka doesn't know what she looks like, and she's spent the whole day in here anyway. ]

Ahsoka? I am Nyssa.

[ The empty scabbards, quiver, and compound bow sit on the bench, along with two bottles of water. ]

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka pads over after taking her shoes off. She seems to have cheered up in the interim between their conversation.]

Hey. Ready to go at it?

[sinuosity]

Born that way.

[ She wastes no time. As soon as Ahsoka's on the mat, Nyssa attacks. Her movements are fluid, laced with calm precision, and utterly silent, even the swish of the robes is barely audible. She weaves, with a few direct strikes, in and out. And she likes to stay almost wholly on the offensive, using her size and speed. ]

[resnipstance]

[If Ahsoka were a normal person, that might have taken her by surprise.

But she's not. It's like Nyssa said-- she is Jedi. And there's no time she feels more like it than when the world narrows down to just her and the opponent.

Their fight styles are similar, she notes. Ahsoka too relies on speed and accuracy over brute strength, darting in and out like lightning. She matches Nyssa block for block and blow for blow easily, her grin getting fiercer. She has to hand it to her-- Nyssa is good for a baseline human. She's actually feeling the exertion and having to concentrate, and there aren't many baseline humans who can force her to do that.]

[sinuosity]

[ Nyssa hasn't heard her father's voice during her training in a while now — she's expected to be the perfect killer and she is. Has been for a long time. It's why she has barely any defensive moves that aren't standard — no one survives the attack. ]

[ It's obvious, however, that they're more than evenly matched, Ahsoka only ahead because of her superior speed. When Nyssa feels her muscles scream — they've been at it for a solid forty five minutes — she steps away. ]

Impressive.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka's actually sore and panting herself by the time they break apart, and she's equally impressed.

She gives a small bow to Nyssa in the Jedi style-- a closed fist covered by an open palm, meeting together at her chest as she inclines her head downwards. A gesture of respect.]

Thank you. You're fairly impressive yourself.

[She looks back to where she left her boots and water bottle at the entrance and reaches one hand out, summoning her water over to her hand in a gesture so casual it's as if she doesn't think about it.]

[sinuosity]

[ She bows as well, right hand closed into a fist, covered by the left. And she eyes the telekinetic display with some wariness, more curiosity. Ahsoka is from a galaxy far far away. ]

I have never seen that before. What did you do?

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka takes a drink before answering.]

Oh-- I manipulated the Force.

[And before she asks, because she knows this is going to be the next question:] The Force is the energy that's all around us. Everywhere you go-- it's the energy that's flowing through the universe. Through you and through me, binding us all together.
