[ zuko is sitting on a couch playing what appears to be super mario bros. The old school nes version, naturally, and zuko has discovered that 1) video games are amazing and 2) he isn't actually terrible at them.

what zuko is terrible at, however, is controlling his sheer disbelief that the knowledge that all mario needs to do in order to firebend is eat a flower. is that it? seriously??? if it were that easy in his universe, he wouldn't have had to climb up a goddamn mountain in order to regain his skills and talk to a freaking dragon. he would happily --

but his inner monologue is interrupted when zuko finally makes it to the castle, and he looks pretty satisfied with himself at beating this thing (eat shit bowser!!) but then -- ]

-- she's in another castle?

[ ARE YOU SERIOUS and the nes controller is thrown at the ground in a huff. ]

I went through three firebending flowers for that? Unbelievable -- !

[ zuko considers it for a moment before saving and exiting back to the main menu. ]

Are you sure? I mean-- I don't want to ruin your game or anything.

I died sixteen times trying to figure out how to use it, so the game is probably already ruined.

[She laughs at that and picks up the controller.]

Well-- if you put it like that.

Now. How do I start this thing? I'm gonna kick it's butt.

Hit the start button.

[ that took a minute for him, too, and zuko scoots forward so he can point at the buttons ]

This jumps, and press right on the control pad to run forward. If you jump up into the blocks, items can come out. The mushrooms make you bigger, or give you extra lives. The flower lets you firebend.

[ obvi ]

[resnipstance]

[She hits the start button, then she tries out the jumping and running controls as he speaks.]

What do you mean by firebend?

[honorbends]

Mario controls fire.

[ and zuko suspends a ball of fire between his hands, to demonstrate. ]

-- except he shoots it at enemies and they explode.

[ zuko does not have that ability though it would be super useful tbh ]

[Ahsoka drops the controller in her surprise.]

What the--!

Did you just-- can you just-- create fire?

[honorbends]

[ -- oh dear.

zuko immediately dissipates the fire and holds up his hands in an instinctive 'not here to roast you alive!!!' gesture, eyes a little wide. ]

-- yeah, it's -- calm down.

[ pls :c ]

I'm not going to hurt you or anything, I was just -- you asked.

[resnipstance]

[She blinks for a minute, and then laughs.]

Oh! I'm not scared. It's great! I've never seen the Force used in such a way. Can you do it again? But... slower, this time?

[honorbends]

[ oh.

zuko hesitates before creating another ball of flame -- it appears to come out of absolutely nowhere, and it sort of does. firebenders pull their energy from within and manifest it into the environment around them. ]

I don't know what the Force is, but that's not what I'm using.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka's eyes light up even more, if that's possible.]

It is, though! I got it that time. You're using the energy inside you to create heat and light, right? That's brilliant!

[honorbends]

But we don't call it that.

[resnipstance]

Right. You called it... firebending, right?

Is it a skill anyone where you're from can learn, or do you have to be born Force-sensitive? I mean-- crap. Born with the ability...?

[honorbends]

You're born with the ability to bend whatever element you're meant to bend. Only the Avatar can learn how to bend all four elements.

[ or, well, five. if you count spiritbending, but only the Avatar can do that. ]

[resnipstance]

I thought that might be the case.

What are the other three elements, out of curiousity?

[honorbends]

Air, water, and earth.

That's awesome! Man. I wish I could see it in action. It probably isn't the same with just one of you, right?

[honorbends]

[ well, there is an earthbender and a waterbender on board, but zuko won't put katara and toph on display. and so -- ]

Each has their own unique fighting style and bending style, so... they all work differently. Firebenders are the only ones who actually create their element from within, though.

[ all the others are external -- or internal, but utilize the elements within. firebenders are a much more volatile species. ]
