[ zuko is sitting on a couch playing what appears to be super mario bros. The old school nes version, naturally, and zuko has discovered that 1) video games are amazing and 2) he isn't actually terrible at them.
what zuko is terrible at, however, is controlling his sheer disbelief that the knowledge that all mario needs to do in order to firebend is eat a flower. is that it? seriously??? if it were that easy in his universe, he wouldn't have had to climb up a goddamn mountain in order to regain his skills and talk to a freaking dragon. he would happily --
but his inner monologue is interrupted when zuko finally makes it to the castle, and he looks pretty satisfied with himself at beating this thing (eat shit bowser!!) but then -- ]

[ ARE YOU SERIOUS and the nes controller is thrown at the ground in a huff. ]
I went through three firebending flowers for that? Unbelievable -- !

I don't have video games in my universe. This is my first time playing it.

It seemed like a pointless exercise. We had war games to learn strategy.

A lot of things, I guess. I like reading. Meditating.
The video games are pretty fun.

I admit I haven't heard of this one. I prefer — what's was it called? Assassin's Creed.

[ zuko watches nyssa go through the level, crossing his arms over his chest as he settles back into the couch. watching someone else play might teach him something, after all. ]

It centres the mind. If there are enemies within you, you can't hope to defeat the enemies that are not.

... we use it for sort of the same reason.
[ 'we' being firebenders. if you can't maintain peace within yourself, you can hurt other people. or yourself. ]
Except without the need for enemies.

They are always there, whether you see them or not.

[ not always, though. and hopefully the struggle in his world is over for his lifetime, though zuko has a feeling he's going to be fighting to achieve peace for the rest of his life. ]
We use it to control ourselves and our abilities, though -- and if we need to use self-defense, then that's fine, but we don't meditate just for the sole purpose of fighting.
