Yep, that is definitely some smoke. After a pause, there is a muffled curse, a cough, and finally, Kirito retrieves the machine off the floor and heads out into the hall.]

Anyone venturing around the Iskaulit might bump into him doing a number of things- reconstructing a gun in one of the empty rooms, moping pondering things quietly in an area with a view of space, or swinging said gun around in a rather un-gun-like manner in the exercise area.
