[ she looks squarely into the network's broadcast. firm, electronic eye contact with any and all watching. ]

[ afterwards, she can be found fiddling with the comms panels on the starstruck. she isn't particularly certain of what she's doing, but it's better than being idle. and she might as well try and put her bloody awful augment to work. over the next two hours, some ships may experience odd and incomplete burst messages as she tests frequencies, filters, and broadcast capabilities. ]

I haven't lost a card game in my life, and I'm not planning on starting now.

Nor you with me, I should remind you. [ it's not cocky -- actually, her tone is more friendly than anything else. ] I learned to play a mean hand of cards behind the chapel at school. I'm not certain even a high flying man of outer space has anything on the poker face of posh London school-girls.

St Martin-in-the-Fields School for Girls offered quite an education. And only some of that education was staunchly Anglican.

Boarding school? Left to your own devices? I'd gamble in the backyard too.

Not quite boarding school, but -- close enough, in its own way. Not that it mattered. I left Middle Sixth when the war hotted up. [ ... ] Basic training! Now, that's its own sort of boarding.

Never been through training, or any military. All my training's strictly illicit and off the books.

Ex-soldier, actually. War's over and I don't wear the uniform any longer. Thank heavens. Olive drab is a notoriously difficult colour to accessorize.
