[ han solo, on board the huntress, has had a tumultuous week. nothing in comparison to his friends (though, really, if his long-lost family showed up here, han probably wouldn't be able to recognize them, let alone marginally care), but tiring all the same. he's been collecting information from passerby and explored arslae quite a bit. now, he's ready to talk on the network.

of sorts, anyway.

han is sitting at his pilot station in the huntress, and there are some missing panels and things being rearranged and han setting up his chair just the way he likes it. there's no chewbacca here (annoyingly, and, if han admits it, depressingly), so han is doing the work on his own. with some interruptions.

after a moment or two of thinking, han decides to speak.

(if he were smart, he would've figured out what he wanted to say beforehand, but that shit isn't for corellian smugglers.) ]

So I guess I've been assigned to the Huntress, and I've met most of you on board so far... but greetings, salutations, whatever. I'm Han Solo, your new pilot. I'd apologize for the mess, but you'll thank me later.

[ probably. if he doesn't blow up the ship first. ]

I've got a few questions about this Fleet -- one, how many people around here have actually set foot off planet before coming here? Two, any of you know how to fly a ship before getting here? Second part -- who here is a pilot? And three, if any of you have seen a Wookiee by the name of Chewbacca -- he's tall, furry, growls a lot, might've threatened to kill you once or twice -- steer him in my direction. He's harmless. Mostly.

[ han seems to be ready to leave it there, but he glances toward his station before resettling his focus on the camera with a grin, eyes bright. to those who know han solo, esteemed general of the rebellion and captain of the millennium falcon, you can almost be guaranteed what is about to come out of his mouth is no good. ]

So who wants to test out how fast these buckets of bolts can go?

[ confirmed. ]

[ none of those sound familiar, but han listens anyway. his brow furrows slightly. ]

Join the club. I've never been to this neck of the galaxy, and the charts make no sense.

[ pause ]

Did you say activated?

I did. I am, in fact, a humaniform robot. My name is R. Daneel Olivaw. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

[falconing]

[ . . . ]

Right. Well, R. Daneel Olivaw -- [ and han even gets it right on the first try, bless him ] -- I'm glad to hear not everybody here's clueless before they get dropped off on a Fleet and given a ship.

You a pilot?

[thezerothlaw]

Daneel is fine, sir.

[That's a mouthful and he knows it.]

I am not a pilot. My assigned rank here in the Fleet is that of Comunications. I have never piloted a ship, though perhaps I would be able to learn.

[falconing]

If you haven't flown before, then you probably shouldn't be in a race.

[ or in charge of a craft while flying as fast as you can go, tbh.

han pauses. ]

And you don't have to call me sir.

I agree. I probably should not be in a race with my present skills.

[Maybe some day!]

Mr. Solo, then?

[falconing]

Han's fine.

[ han is so not the 'mr. solo' type. ]

Han, then.

[So informal. Also one of his creators was named Han and that is super awkward. But, whatever he wants.]

At any rate, you have my sympathy, for being in this situation, as we all are.

[falconing]

Could be worse, but could be a hell of a lot better.

[ he was hanging out with ewoks man :( ]

I'll hold off on complaining until something terrible happens.

If I may ask, what is a Wookiee?

A species from the planet Kashyyyk. They're giant fuzzballs.

[ only han solo is allowed to call chewbacca a giant fuzzball and not get his arm removed.

[He still can't really imagine it, but he's never been long on imagination.]

Such matters aside, I do realise that arriving here is... a difficult transition You do seem better equipped for the change than some, at least. I serve on the Wonderduck, if you require my aid.

I live on a ship. It's not so bad.

[ being trapped here is another matter entirely, and being stuck here with people he'd rather not be is also difficult, but. hey. ]

Yes, the Wonderduck. It is one of the ships of the Fleet.

Someone actually named their ship the Wonderduck.

Evidently so. I am not certain who is responsible for that.

[falconing]

Whoever was should probably be shot.

[thezerothlaw]

Oh, no. Surely that would not be necessary.

[He looks mildly shocked. Mildly.]

It is only a name, after all.

Surely it is. Who's gonna take that seriously?

Excuse me, we're boarding you now. This is the captain of the U.S.S. Wonderduck.

Come on.

I don't see any reason why we should be boarding another ship. That is typically associated with aggressive actions, and we have not participated in anything of the kind.

[Let's just get that out of the way.]

At any rate, I don't know who is responsible for the name. It suffices, surely.

[falconing]

So this Fleet doesn't run into other ships often? Or interact with them?

[thezerothlaw]

[He pauses, thoughtful.]

We did, once, in my time here. It was... not a pleasant experience. The ship was adrift, and its residents afflicted by a disease that damaged their mind.
