[Routines aren't something Octavia's used to, if one doesn't count certain processes back on the Ark. To her, they're almost foreign-- conveying a sense of stability, maybe even comfort in her environment. While it's not like she'd openly admit it, Octavia's realized she's fallen into a thing that's eerily close to one.

Days not spent on the planet consist of a variety of activities. She's found some choice recipes for food she likes, and she's taking her time reading through some of the books that have been added to the media selection. (Movies are being watched very sparingly.) But mostly, she can be found down in the cargo bay around the exercise area. Sometimes it's practicing boxing on the punching bag or drilling sword swings into her muscle memory. Sit ups, push ups, all those good old favorites happen, too.

Still, with how busy she can be, she's rarely ever declined a chance to talk with anyone.]

[Davesprite doesn't use the exercise area around other people as a rule, but he walks through it plenty. In fact, he passes through it twice—perhaps shockingly leaving Octavia in peace—before he finally stops on his third trip.]

Dude, you've been here for a while.

[grounds]

[The first two times he'd passed by, she'd been practicing boxing stances and hits on the bag. The third time-- now the interruption, she's switched to kicks. Octavia's sweaty, breathing hard, probably starting to stink, and not giving a damn.

She drops her leg from the side of the bag and turns to face him in one motion. A grin greets him, followed by a tired sounding laugh.]

What, waiting your turn? [She's teasing of course.]

Course not. That'd take a measure of diligence I just don't have.

[It's lighthearted, if self-mocking.]

The level of commitment I see happening here is like. Unheard of. [Still bullshitting.] Most people been saving up their punches for the snowmen on Saltball Planet.

[He gets a good natured eye roll from her.]

Yeah, sure. Maybe we'll be stuck in space at some point and you'll have nothing else to do. Think about that.

[She brings her arms above her head and stretches.] It'd take more time rebuilding the stupid things than it'd be worth.

But at least you got the satisfaction of wiping off at least one of their smug button grins.

[Have you punched a snowman today? Has Davesprite??? In any case, he shrugs.]

If we ever do Dreamland 2.0 with the Marsiva, I'll challenge you for rights to the nearest treadmill.

[All of that gets a very loud snort for obvious effect.]

They pull that shit again, people fighting over exercise equipment will be the least of damn their worries.

So we talked swords before. You any good with one?

[He considers.]

I'm alright with one. [He's good. Very good, as comes with the territory of getting ambushed multiple times a day for most of his life and also hailing from a canon where everyone is OP as fuck. Homestuck: secretly an anime.]

I'm kind of a shitty sparring partner, though.

Why's that? Not everyone a fan of you flying around their head like a possessed pair of scissors?

[She's walking to the side of the work out area to grab a towel.]

[That gets a wry, amused look from him and he ducks around the punching bag after her.]

Pretty much. If you thought running with scissors was a bad idea, it's a whole other sports game when you factor in a sword and a pair of wings. Means someone is bound to get shish kabobed and served for lunch.

I'm sure people were complaining about the lack of real meat. That'd get them to shut up pretty quick. So why not?

[Of course she's kidding. Octavia grabs the towel and wipes her face.]

Oh, sure. Cannibalism is bound to amp up the drama and Atroma's all about shit better left to prime time TV. I'd be neck deep in credits before I know it with ratings like that.

[His tone is pretty dry.]

How've you been doing on the sword front. Collect anymore sharp objects with a dubious edge.

Buy actual food that you didn't have conversations with before? Shipping might cost a chunk of it.

[She pauses before draping the sweat soaked thing around her shoulders and shrugging.]

I got the short sword about two and a half months ago, a scimitar plus the two knives for the holiday, and another, duller blade from a while elephant exchange. Guess I'm doing well enough. [A pause.] Also a spear from the planet.

More proof that cannibalism is cost-effective on every level. We've got the seeds of a solid business scheme.

[She gets a look of mild surprise and curiosity.]

I didn't know you could use spears. [Don't mind him, just mentally cataloging all the weapons he knows people use.]

If we do too well we'll either run out of product or a client base. That'd be awkward.

[Octavia chuckles a bit, maneuvering her way back to the main area of the cargo hold.]

I'm a work in progress. I used them a little back home, but not enough for it to be a skill I can brag about. Plus, there's not a decent place on the ship to practice throwing it.

[Once the planet is no longer an option, anyway. But he hasn't spent enough time aboard the bugship to really know.]

Your partner in dubious augment assignments might even volunteer for target practice. [Or more like Davesprite would find it hilarious and also really dumb on Isaac's part.]

[She sits on the edge of a crate, pulling her boots on.] Either way, if you wanna join, just let me know.

[It's with a shrug, like that's all the more reason to do it.]

But sure. [There's a beat as he considers.] Probably gonna have to disappoint you on that front, though. I've got a bad track record with the safety aspect.

[grounds]

You mean actual healing or heeling like the dog command?

[It's an important distinction, okay? Okay.]

[Oh my god. Davesprite snorts; he can't help it.]

Actual healing, like regeneration. I guess it works pretty fast. [He hasn't seen it, since he isn't exactly gonna ask a bro to shank himself for a demonstration.]

But, uh, I've kind of... I'm kind of a fuckup. [SHRUG.] I'm not really used to holding back. Add in the fact I'm rustier than a junkyard and that's a sure recipe for disaster.

[grounds]

I figured, but it was worth clarification.

[Her grin makes that statement dubious, though. She stands up and stretches again.]

I'll need more specifics if you want to make any sense.

[He makes a slight face.]

Nah, I'll settle for not making sense. Might come by to watch, I guess, if no one dies of hypothermia first. I'm not dumb enough to volunteer as a target.
