Who: Sansa Stark and anyone.
Broadcast: Video. Fleetwide.
Action: Find her on the Blue Fish, if you like.

[ by all accounts, sansa stark has survived. she now lives on an armoured ship. her brothers are nearby -- alongside one brother's devoted friends, who have all been more kind to her kin than she can put to words. although nothing so much as approaches normal, she's beginning to feel settled. stability creeps in from the corners.

and this allows her to ask a question of her fleetmates: ] Is there any means by which I might find spare cloth and thread? And needles, too, of course. The ships give us so much, but I'm not certain -- [ not certain they can give me these. she does not understand their magic, nor the purchasing power of her device. ]

I like to embroider. I should like to do it again, if I could. [ but without a handmaiden to bid fetch these things, she doesn't know how to begin. perhaps it's as simple as looking in the correct spot -- but she was never raised to procure or purchase anything in her life. ]

Actually. If you can find thread and cloth, I can transfigure a needle for you. A regular sewing needle, correct? I've never seen an embroidery one, but I suppose I can just transfigure it and if it needs to be different, you can tell me.

[ if she has been cold and reluctant with others, then she is considerably less so with remus. he has won her fair consideration for no other reason than his friendship with james potter. perhaps it's a childish measure of one's patience with strangers, but it helps her sit easier. breathe easier. ]

What do you mean by this -- transfigure?

Taking one object and making it into another. For a needle, since we'd want it to last, I'd use something metallic-- something like a screw, for example. A wave of my wand, and we'd have ourselves a needle.

[He says it lightly, easily. She seems constantly on-guard, and he doesn't want to exacerbate that.]

-- That is amazing. [ she loves the idea of their magic -- because it comes across as innocent, and helpful. it isn't the dangerous sorcery of childhood horror stories. ] And it would be so kind of you. I would be in your debt.

Oh, it's not-- you don't have to be--

[He doesn't know if she means that, or if it's just another way to say thank you. So, waving all that off, he adds--]

It's simple magic, really. If you're free, I could come by and do it right now.

Impossible. I'll repay you -- I promise. I'll do some needlework. [ ... ] James said you liked wolves. And I have some skill embroidering wolves.

[Oh, ha ha, James. Remus smiles, though, pleased by her offer.]

I would be honored, then. Are you fond of wolves?

My family's sigil is a direwolf. [ she tries not to sound too proud. ] Apart from wildflowers, it's the first thing I ever learned to sew.

I-- are you from the same world as Bran, then? He was telling me about direwolves. I'd love to learn more about it-- we don't have sigils, not where I'm from-- or at least, we haven't for ages.

[ her schooled expression breaks into an honest smile. her chin ducks; she tries to hide it. ]

Bran is my younger brother. We share more than a world; we are family. House Stark wears its direwolf proudly.

Oh! That's-- I mean, it's awful to have siblings here, but-- at least the company is good?

[He likes Bran, after all.]

Though I can't imagine having a direwolf as a pet. I've some experience with wolves; they're a bit terrifying.

They're not pets. [ she's quick to argue, for once. mild-mannered sansa gains some fire in her tone. but it subsides quickly, and her gaze averts in apology. ] Mine was my companion. As was Bran's to him.

My apologies. [He means it, too.] What's the difference, can you tell me? We're allowed familiars at school-- owls or cats or toads-- but they're honestly more pets than because they do anything for us.

Lady -- Lady was mine. And it isn't like I ever trained her. Not properly, like the kennel-masters would their hounds. But she behaved all the same.

[ not like arya's nymeria, who made a mess of everything. ]

[It's hard to imagine a wolf bigger than Moony being tame-- but he believes her, of course.]

She sounds lovely. What kind of coat did she have?

Grey. Like a snow-filled sky near dusk. With yellow eyes. I think.

It's been so long, now -- yes. They must have been yellow.

She sounds beautiful.

[He means it, of course, but there's no way he would have said anything else. Lady seems to have meant a great deal to Sansa, and he wouldn't want to spoil that. He wonders, too, at the use of the past tense-- when Bran had spoke of his direwolf, it hadn't been with nearly so much hesitance.

Still. It's not his place, not yet.]

James wasn't lying when he said I had a fondness for wolves. If-- I mean-- I don't know if you mind having a guest, but I have something I'd like to show you, if you wouldn't mind.

[ she sucks a long breath past her teeth. but sansa doesn't sigh -- she isn't fearful, exactly. remus might be james's friend, but she has yet to meet the young man in person. so she believes she must take some measure of care. ]

I don't mind. [ ... ] We have a comfortable kitchen on the Blue Fish. You could visit.

All right. I'll be over soon, just as soon as I find my wand.

[James likely has it. It only takes Remus a moment or two to locate it-- and then Remus is coming over, blinking as the transporter brings him.]

Sansa?

[ she waits for him -- by the cargo bay, and with her hands folded in front of her. upon his arrival, she curtsies. not too deeply -- yet still in earnest. this is their first meeting eye-to-eye, after all. and the fact that she has not requested that a brother be present alongside them is an unspoken honour. ]

Welcome to the Blue Fish, Remus.

Thank you.

[He offers her half a smile. She still seems so skittish, so fearful, he doesn't want to make a wrong move. Gently he tugs out his wand.]

Ah-- a needle or a bit of show-offy magic first? Your choice.

[ the girlish, resilient part of her is drawn towards the magic. she seems struck with indecision, before: ]

Be spectacular, Remus. Please.

[He huffs a laugh-- not at her, exactly, just amused by the wording. Spectacular, well, he can do that.

The Patronus charm is difficult, but not as difficult as it once was. It's vital to master it when you're a member of the Order of the Phoenix, when communication relies on it; he's gotten quite good at digging into himself for happy memories even when at his most miserable. Today it's something from school-- Sirius, sixth year, slipping him chocolate the day after final exams, the day after one of his transformations. You shouldn't have gone, he'd protested, you're busy enough with school, and Sirius had simply laughed. You're more important than school, and it's stupid, so stupid that something like that had made him light up, but--]

Expecto patronum.

[He murmurs it beside her, his eyes trained on the ground. A flash of silvery light-- and a wolf appears, conjured out of silver mist. It's large, large enough to be mistaken for a direwolf, and silent as it stands diligently before them. Intelligent eyes stare up at them both, waiting patient for whatever comes next.]

My patronus. I suppose you could call it my . . . what form my soul takes. Everyone's is different.

[ it's more than magic; it's beauty, too. like something from a dream-scape. ethereal and silvered and reminiscent of moonlight. or of stars shimmering on early winter frost. his soul is so beautiful it makes her ache.

instinct takes over, and sansa holds out an empty palm. ]

He's -- your soul is very well behaved. [ she whispers.

i wonder what my soul is. ]

[They breathe the same, Remus and his patronus. Chest rising and falling in tandem, though the wolf is entirely silent. It's easy to imagine his nails clicking on the metal floor, though, as he comes forward, pressing up against Sansa. Her hand goes through him, but that's no bother to him, clearly-- his ears flick and tail thumps in clear pleasure.]

I used to hate what he was. But I suppose you can't change your nature.
