[ When she wakes up, the first thing that's obvious to her is that this is not her house; it's nothing like it, and that's more than enough to have her drop her hands to her hip - where, again, there's nothing familiar. The next stop is around her neck and it's obvious that she finds some comfort there, her fingers sliding around a ring before she breathes out and moves to sit up. At least some things are familiar, and she recognises a video feed when she sees it, lifting her free hand to push her hair out of her eyes. ]

Well, this isn't the Drabwurld, is it.

[ She sounds remarkably put out about it, shifting to stand and adjust her weight, her fingers finally dropping away from the ring around her neck. It's only then that she really looks into her feed, wondering if it worked just like the lockets did - and, at the same time, wondering if she ought to be afraid. Considering the number of worlds and things she saw and went through in the Drabwurld, however, she thinks that it'll take a little more than this to put her on edge, even without her weapons. ]

I don't suppose anyone here has heard of Nimh Gleanne? Leathann? ... Anything like that?

[ There's a kind of awkward hopefulness in her voice as she tries to smile, the scar on her cheek shifting with her lips. ]

Yeah. Sorry, it's... Mirror shards are how we got back our memories and abilities, back at the castle. We... went through quite a lot, every day, just trying to get those.

Ah, I see. In my world there was a mirror that could show you your heart's desire and in the Drabwurld... I used mirrors to talk to people, with my magic.

... Yeah, ours sort of... held the fragments of our souls together. So, they're kind of on a different scale there.

Definitely more like the shards we had in our chests, then. They were our connection to the Drabwurld and our own world - if the connection was cut we'd be stuck between them forever.

[ And, considering her shard is gone...

Oh. ]

[.... Oh.

Okay. Even someone as dense as Nightingale can figure out what that means. Can she help, though? Is it even okay to try, with her record?]

I'm sorry. Maybe, something or someone here could help...

I'm not sure. It's - the Drabwurld was my home, and people say we go home if we leave here. I can't imagine they'd send me back to my home world.

[ She frowns, crossing her arms. ]

It's something to think about.

Like I said, I don't think that's true, but... That's not actually comforting in this case, huh.

I get the impression that there isn't very much here to find comforting.

There's... Well, um.

I got a pet fox at the last planet? She's kind of comforting.

[yeah, i got nothing else]

Oh! I'd love to have a pet! I left behind so many in the Drabwurld - I had two cats, a winged dog and a sabertooth lion... Thing.

[ She frowns, pausing. ]

That one was a gift from my dad.

Back at the castle, my team had a bunch of pets... "Pokemon", they were called. Little fuzzy monsters.

... Your dad was there with you?

I don't think I've ever seen a Pokemon - I haven't even hard of them before. Are they just animals?

[ Ah, but - sheepishness prevails. ]

Not my biological dad. Um, I adopted him.

They're... from my teammate's world. The ones we had were... A couple of them were like a mix between a fox and a cotton ball. The last one was a dog on two legs that did martial arts.

The other ones from her world are... weird. Anything from a cute bird, to some sort of... giant, otherworldly serpent, ready to destroy that world. But she managed to tame it with some pastries, so it worked out.

[Judging from her voice, she thinks it's just as ridiculous as you do.]

... You adopted him? Is that how that works?

That sounds... Remarkable. I had a dragon for a niece, but - that's a little bit different. I thought having a sabertooth cat was kind of strange, but Pokemon...

[ Hermione pauses, for a moment, before she smiles and ducks her head, closing her eyes before she breathes out. ]

It was how it worked for me. I was Marchioness and I wrote to the queen, asking for her to make it official, by law. He was my dad in everything but name - it seemed silly not to make it law, too.

Yeah. There were hundreds of different kinds, and Sparrow raised, trained, and battled them. She was kind of crazy badass.

[She can't help but laugh a little at that.]

It's good you could, I know how you feel. My team are my siblings, as far as I'm concerned, but... The idea of any of these interdimensional shitholes having laws is hard to wrap my brain around.

That sounds incredible, though. But - battling with them? Is that really alright? I mean, if they're pets then they should be safe - did they even want to fight?

[ Hermione looks particularly put out, frustration making her hand slip to her hip before she shakes her head. ]

We were in a world where royalty was the law. I was only a lady, really, and I still had to ask. I was lucky the Queen liked me.

Some of them do. Cumulo, the little martial-arts dog I mentioned up there, loved to try to fight and get stronger. Nimbus, too, really liked to battle Cumulo, but I think she just liked showing off.

It seems like no Pokemon that doesn't want to fight is forced to, at least. I never made Rhea fight, though she wanted to try a few times.

[She's going oddly quiet for a minute about that last bit, before she can figure out what to say.]

Can I ask what that Queen was like?

Oh... Well, that's alright then.

[ It doesn't make her feel too much better, not really, and she's still somewhat frustrated, but - she can't do anything here no matter how much she might want to with all her obstinance and irritation. She wants to snap and twist and do more but, of course, she can't. If the Drabwurld had taught her anything it was that she didn't have the power to change every little thing.

Doing good in the world didn't have to mean transforming it entirely. ]

She was... Kind, at least at first. She was always good to me, and gentle, too, comforting, a little like a mother. She could be cruel, though, and incredible awful to those that disobeyed her or broke her trust somehow.

If Sparrow ever shows up here, I'll send her your way to explain.

... If you don't want to say anymore, you don't have to.

[Because it sure sounds like there's more to that story, after that 'at least at first'.]

I would love that.

[ Hermione shakes her head, hair falling around her shoulders. ]

I spent three years with her, it's alright. She was far nicer than her husband was, for the most part, at least in public.

... And in private?

[She may not be Rosella, but... They're still the same person under the experiences. So, royalty or not, if those two hurt Nightingale's teammate, she's going to be very, very angry.]

She was sweet to me, but I had things she wanted.

[ Doesn't that explain enough? ]

... Sounds like you haven't had much of pleasant time yourself.

[She may not have the details, but the implications are clear enough to make her mad on Hermione's behalf.]

It was a war. I can understand why she did what she did - it's hard, leading people and having them look up to you.

[ Another thing she knows from experience; how many men had followed her into battle? Too many. ]

[She has to take a moment to consider her own leaders. She shudders at the idea of any of them acting the way Hermione described.]

I don't think that makes it right.
