Who: Hino Rei [
flameandpassion] and YOUUUU.
Broadcast: Fleetwide!
Action: The Marsiva.
When: Now!
[ ah, the flood of new people.
rei has been watching the network for the past half-day or so, and carefully exploring the marsiva. she's run into a fellow fire princess, but has avoided most everyone else. instead, she's been listening. waiting, watching. absorbing as much as she can before recognizing that this is, indeed, not a joke.
she's no longer in adstringendum, but somewhere new. either castiel's ritual failed, or the animus decided to say one last 'fuck you' to their favorite shinto priestess before kicking her out the door. aelia, as always, is a cruel mistress.
so when rei turns on the feed, she looks like a typical eighteen-to-nineteen year old girl, but her eyes look a lot older. her hair is long and falls across her shoulders, and she's wearing a sweater, jeans, and boots -- all miraculously mended thanks to the atroma. how nice of them.
there's no hope in her expression, necessarily, but she can't help but ask : ]
Is there anyone here from Adstringendum?
[ that should bring out the familiars, anyway. and rei waits, almost as if she's expecting someone to burst in from off screen and go SURPRISE -- but when that doesn't happen, she continues, a bit wryly -- ]
If not, then I guess I have to start from scratch. Hino Rei, your new securities personnel. Or... whatever they call it.
[ she certainly doesn't look pleased about it, anyway, and finally, her expression breaks into something frustrated. ]
But if this so-called reality TV show thinks that they can just take over where the Animus left off, they have another thing coming, because I've had it up to here with --
[ and rei stops herself before gritting her teeth, exhaling slowly, and frowning into the camera. ]
When do I get off of this thing?

[ and rei stops herself before gritting her teeth, exhaling slowly, and frowning into the camera. ]
When do I get off of this thing?

action;
-- damn it. ]
... sorry. I --
[ rei purses her lips. ]
-- maybe it would be better to start with actual introductions.
[ not quite apologetic, but definitely sincere, and rei pulls her cup closer to her to contemplate it. ]
I'm Rei -- I'm a shinto priestess. [ and a destined warrior of the universe but details. ] Almost five years ago, I showed up in a place called Adstringendum, which is where I met Castiel and Sam -- and a bunch of other people, too.
[ pause ]
And Dean.
[ that last name is said a bit shrewdly. rei never really got along super well with dean. ]
Castiel and I became friends after he offered to help my friend and I hide from Lucifer, who... [ she trails off for a moment, to consider how she wants to continue. ] -- Lucifer and I didn't... we didn't get along. Castiel offered to hide us, and Lucifer tried to kill him for it. After that, I started talking to him more, and we've been friends ever since.
[ it's a super morbid story but true. ]
action;
but you know, maybe it's for the best, if it means having a good, honest conversation about this, because there's no denying his burning curiosity here concerning adstringendum, this place he definitely doesn't remember, or has yet to arrive in, or.. well, there's a hundred ways to define it. doesn't matter.
either way it's got him leaning toward her on his elbows in clear interest.
and okay, it's a lot to digest. dean, of course, had been there as well - he should have guessed as much. but lucifer? the name alone is enough to get him lifting his eyebrows, a tight, tense expression settling over his features, it's not a name that settles easily into his gut, it roils and it rails. but that's lucifer for you.
at any rate, he's quiet once she finishes, thoughtful, before at last he takes a drink from his cup and sits back, exhaling slow and easy, kicking his feet up onto a nearby empty chair. ]
Sounds like a blast. [ he says, dryly. ] Five years. A long time to be away from home, too. How'd you get back?
action;
[ rei lets go of her cup to cross her arms over her chest, settling back into her own chair, adjusting to tuck one leg underneath herself to be a bit more comfortable. ]
I thought I had left Adstringendum to go home, and I wound up here instead.
action;
Tough break. Sorry to hear it.
[ genuinely. it's pretty rough, thinking you've fought the good fight, that you'll finally be able to rest for once, only to be flung right into some other problem, some different problem, far from home. ]
action;
[ with a brief smile, and a slight wave of her hand. believing in fate wholeheartedly makes situations like these a bit easier to bear. ]
I'll make it there eventually. And I have friends here, so it's not unbearable.
action;
Right. Seems there're a lot of people hanging around from Adstr.. Ads.. uh. That place. So you definitely won't be lonely. [ easy shrug, and he pops some cookie into his mouth. ] But hey, you get bored, the door's open.
action;
[ rei just prefers to spit out the whole latin clusterfuck of a word, apparently. ]
But it's a little worrying to me that so many of us showed up here... maybe the universe didn't collapse as neatly as we thought -- and I'll take you up on that offer, for when we're stuck in space.
[ ugh. rei hopes her shipmates are nice enough, until she can get to haruka and michiru's ship. ]
action;
Yeah.. that's pretty bizarre. Earth seems a pretty popular destination, too. At least half of the people I've spoken with are from Earth, or if they're not, they've heard of it. For a cosmos so big as this, it's a little telling.
[ shrug. ]
Guess we're popular.
action;
Maybe human beings make for good reality television.
[ it's been so long since rei has actually seen a television or used one that she almost forgot such things existed, but. she supposes she can see the appeal. ]
action;
What's reality television?
[ he's a lot more human than you might remember, rei, but there's no tv in shitty apocalypse land. ]
action;
-- have you watched TV before?
[ may as well start from scratch ]
action;
[ kinda had other things on his mind. never even got to enjoy the pizza man and the babysitter, how sad for him. ]
action;
Reality television is when cameras follow around a group of people and record their lives, and broadcast it on television for people at home to watch.
[ she pauses before picking up another piece of fruit ]
It's pretty stupid, and brain-numbing, but popular, I guess. I don't watch a lot of television.
action;
[ i mean, okay, cas can see the draw in it, but he's an angel - or well, he was for most of his long life, and he's always liked people watching. he loves humans, thinks their lives are interesting, but i mean, last he checked there wasn't time for luxuries like that. ]
.. well, fair enough. Whatever keeps people entertained, I suppose.
action;
[ she's peeling an orange ]
I think it's mostly an American thing -- I only heard about it when I got to Adstringendum, and I've never actually watched any reality television. Or maybe it is around in Japan and I just never bothered.
[ rei sort of lives in the middle of nowhere for living in tokyo ]
action;
[ he's mostly teasing, of course, that reality tv sounds pretty absurd even by his loosened standards, but hey. he pops another chunk of cookie in his mouth. ]
Though I suppose it isn't very difficult to figure out.
action;
[ dryly, and she splits the orange in half ]
Maybe that's why they dragged me here -- who knows.
action;
action;
[ as horrible at it is, rei has a feeling atroma likes that kind of thing. the animus surely did. ]
But I'm sure people like to see something they think is "exciting." I'm looking forward to boring, personally.
action;
Yeah, guess you're right about that. It's a whole different thing, looking in on it from the outside, I guess, than it is living through it.
[ glad their hellish lives can get them.. good ratings, or something. real nice. ]
But hey, may as well make the best of it, anyway. Least the food's good. [ wagging half a cookie for emphasis!! ]
action;
[ in agreement, as she pops an orange slice into her mouth, savoring it. ]
I really can't remember the last time that I had fresh fruit -- or soda. I can't believe there's a soda machine here.
action;
[ not counting, you know, here. and yet here he is, stuffing his face with a cookie. ]
Never had soda at all. So I guess we're in luck, huh?
action;
You haven't had soda?
[ her castiel probably hasn't had it either, come to think of it, but rei is already getting up to head over to the drink dispensers. ]
We're fixing that immediately.
action;
So am I missing some great epiphany?
action;
[ and she considers the flavors for a long moment before picking just regular coca-cola, filling a cup with ice and pouring him a glass from the dispenser, letting the fizz die down before turning to offer it to cas with a grin ]
It's probably one of the best human inventions in the history of mankind.
