A few things.

There are a good number of fighters here or people otherwise trained in combat. I'm interested in observing people's abilities or training, or at least discussing what they can do. Spars could also be arranged if you want some exercise.

Secondly, I'll take recommendations for good literature available around here.

Finally, if you know how to knit or crochet then I'll offer you up to ten credits to watch you create something.

He tried to be a gentleman for once.

Fine, he'll sit back down on his bed, eyes already red and watchful as he does so. ]

Where did you purchase the yarn?

I stole it from a vending machine, and I told them that my name was Uchiha Sasuke. Supreme ninja extraordinaire.

[ completely deadpan, as she settles the yarn in her lap. ]

I decided to let them see me, you know, because I'm so fast.

[ -- but then, as she takes out knitting needles, and looks up at him with a slight grin. ]

I bought it from an old woman on the street. She needed the money more than I did.

[ she eyes him for a moment -- and the sharigan never fails to creep her out, because sasuke looks a lot like some weird freakish demon when he does that, but she points a knitting needle at him. ]

I have a question, before we start.

[ ... ]

I had my reasons, but how is it that you're aware of the vending machine incident? [ Another pause. Maybe she didn't. Maybe he just verified that for no reason. He needs to move forward in this conversation because lingering here with it is doing him approximately zero favors. ]

Ask, then.

[ He is not deactivating the sharingan for her comfort. ]

I didn't tell you? I'm psychic.

[ duh. (though, really, rei had been making it up, and sasuke confirmed that he really is that ridiculous, so.) ]

And I can't knit with one arm. Is watching me going to help at all?

... no, you left that part out.

[ HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER, though honestly now he's just going to be distracted wondering if she's able to read his thoughts. That little invasion of privacy would actually get to him, and not in a good way. ]

[ poor sasuke. ]

You're lying to me; you didn't forget.

... but no, I don't.

You're not the first person to remind me of what I'm missing now, as if I'd be able to forget. I'm going to find a way to adapt, whether that means modifying a two-handed technique or finding a way to replace what's gone. I'm not just going to stop learning because of it or expect less of myself.

[ she watches him for a long moment, letting him talk -- but the moment he's finished -- ]

I wasn't asking because I doubted you could figure it out, I was asking because I didn't want you to waste your time.

[ dryly, and she loops yarn around one of the needles. ]

-- and I'm not actually psychic, calm down.

{ as she starts on her first row of stitches. ]

Not in the way that you're probably thinking, anyway.

So then you just lied about something different. [ His tone is as stern as ever, but... fine, he can accept that her intentions weren't malevolent. He's used to tricks from Naruto, after all, he just isn't accustomed to them actually working. That, and it's been a very, very long time. ]

It isn't going to waste my time. The more I see and understand the placement of the hands and the correct patterns of movement the better I can formulate a plan for emulating that myself.

[ she says as she knits, her movements slow, but practiced. ]

[ And now carefully being copied by watchful eyes, feeling like he actually should've picked this skill up a long time ago.

Somewhere amongst all the murdering and vengeance, probably. ]

Fine. [ As he thinks of 497, you're welcome. ]

[ she considers him for a moment, her eyes slipping out of focus for half a second -- seeking the future, placing out what the answer is going to be -- ]

Why 497?

[ she asks mildly, returning to her knitting. ]

... because seven is the third number in sequence, and three is the difference between it and the first number while also being the square root of the second.

[ ... ]

In other words, there's no reason. It's just what I thought of. [ His sense of humor just gets better and better. ]

How did you know it?

[ ha ha. funny. hilarious. ]

So it's less knowing it, and more knowing you were going to choose it.

... surely an ability like that must have considerable limitations.

[ Otherwise she'd go insane from seeing so many possibilities at all times. ]

Mm, it's hard to control, sometimes, and I can usually only look ahead at least a week. But what I see is rarely wrong.

[ so it's difficult, depending on what she sees, when she knows she can't change it.

she pauses, though, and holds out her first few lines of knitted scarf-ish beginnings to sasuke, with a faint smile. ]

It comes in handy, though.

[ He reaches out after a short pause, thumb brushing over the slightly rough yarn as he examines each and every stitch. It's well done without any overly large or too tight loops, evenly spaced and planned out. ]

... you could avoid having to have so many conversations that way. [ HIS DREAM ]

[ there's a soft snort of laughter, and rei wraps her arms around her knees, looking amused. ]

I use it for more important things.

[ like, you know, checking on her friends and making sure they don't get themselves killed. ]

I'd look ahead to see whether or not there are any conversations you want to avoid, but I would get a headache.

You've made your point. [ He is fully aware of his own antisocial behaviors, just now starting to come to terms with... well. His own ~~lack of a~~ personality. ]

How and where do you tuck the yarn in order to secure it when you're entirely finished?

[ cheerfully enough, and rei gets to her feet, stretching neatly. ]
