Who: Namorita Prentiss
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Marsiva
When: Current
[A pretty, pale-skinned woman with "sea green" (I don't write the canon narration, okay) eyes is holding the communicator too close to her face. Depending on your frame of reference, she looks like a blond Vulcan or a more or less unremarkable elf, and she's wearing an expression of slightly exasperated concentration. And she is definitely talking to herself.]
Aww man, I bet Starkphones are better than this.
[She's accidentally turned on the broadcast, you see, because she's from the early 90s and how does personal electronics that aren't from Atlantis. Quick study, though, and she giggles a little as she realizes she's transmitting.]
Whoops. Hi, everybody. My name's Nita, nice to meet you, can someone tell me how to record a voicemail greeting on this please and thank you?
[Obviously it has to have voicemail, duh.
Technological hiccups notwithstanding, Nita seems quite unbothered by having been kidnapped into space, and she settles back, pulling her long ponytail forward over a bare shoulder as she does so to avoid pinning herself to the seat by her own hair. The new angle reveals that she's wearing a scaly green bathing suit and not much else...and she's seemingly unbothered by that, too, looking at the feed with an expectant, friendly smile.]

video;
Ma'am.
[Which is apparently his greeting, holla.]
There's something that looks like a small cog in the lower left corner of your screen. Press that, it'll bring up your options. One of them will be for your voicemail.
video;
Nita squints at the picture for a second, then lights up with an infectious smile.]
Cap? Hi!
[It's the reaction of someone greeting a friend, not a face they recognize from TV.]
video;
Is all too aware, suddenly, of how he's basically mimicking a fish and so he draws a breath and holds it long enough to compose himself before he's shaking his head.]
Have we met?
[His tone is. Carefully neutral, now.]
video;
[Looking at the screen intently like she can tell his alignment from a four-inch picture.]

Pfft, like I'm the "general public." He better give me a phone if I want one.
[Somehow, when she says it, it sounds cute instead of demanding. Probably because she's so cheerful about it.]
Sooooo...is this some alternate timeline stuff? Because I definitely know you and don't need to be introduced.
video;
I'm afraid it must be, though you'd hardly be the first. [More people from other timelines seem to know him than people from his own, which is something he's had to get used to.] Are you an Avenger as well then?
video;
[She doesn't seem to regard it as a slight.]
My cousin was for a bit, but he's not much of a joiner, so that went about as well you'd expect.
[Apparently she thinks who "my cousin" is should be obvious.]

...You've been sucked into some crazy space fleet reality tv show and you're worried about voicemail?
[video]
This is way better than every other time I've gotten kidnapped.
[Sidekick life.]
[video]
You get kidnapped a lot?

[She is, to all appearances, not joking.]

[ He's not on the video feed. He's sitting right behind her, empty tray of food next to him. What? He's a growing
boyGrey Warden! He needs lots of calories! ]I mean, I understand voice and mail, but how do you put the two together?
action;
When someone calls and you don't answer, they can record a message and you play it back later. Like a note or letter, but with talking instead of writing. So, voicemail.
action;
Though how an elf knows about this stuff is beyond him. She must be an elf from a different world. ]
You mean like - on one of these? [ He picks up his own device and waves it about. ] I'm still trying to figure it out.
action;
Yeah. These aren't like the ones at home, so I'm worried I'm going to accidentally broadcast a lovely view up my nose or something.
[Nita gives the communicator a suspicious look. She doesn't trust you.]

Hey there Nita! My name's Kurt. Nice to meet you. Sounds like someone filled you in about the voicemail already... Try to make it a funny one!
...Man, I didn't know they made phones, though. Is that a future thing or a different world thing? [Excuse him, he's still coping with having talked to an alternate version of his best friend.]
Video
Maybe both?
[She has no idea what 616 Kurt's childhood was like and thus no idea if this is just a younger version from her world.]
Anyway, when I get home I definitely need one because they're awesome.
["Need" is a strong word for that, Nita.]
Video
Maybe... What year is it for you? You are an Earth, right?
[He realizes that maybe he shouldn't assume just based on the familiar Stark name... especially because of the confusion that caused with another Stark family that's part of the Fleet.]
What makes it so different from a normal cell phone? [Kurt, from the naive ages of the early 00s.]

[ not the warmest of greetings, but she's paid enough attention to the other conversations this new arrival has had. there's a tricky sort of commonality to be found: a different universe, or something. ]
Hello, Nita. My name's Peggy. Welcome to the fleet.
video »
[She's actually from the early 90s because Time Travel Shenanigans, so the smartphone thing is new to her, too.]
Hi, Peggy.
[Nita smiles warmly. She's one of the few comics people who might recognize Peggy Carter, by name if not appearance, but without being given a last name, it wouldn't occur to her.]

So given that context it might be a little surprising that when he does flick his own camera on his tone is so very friendly.]
Wow.
I was gunna ask if you had an questions but yer really hitting the ground running.
[Mostly people who end up here give off major fish-out-of-water vibes for the first few days, himself included.]
Video
Nita looks at the screen for a second, knowing he's familiar but needing a moment to place him.]
Oh! Mr. Barton! Hi!
[She's pretty okay considering any friend of Cap's to be a potential friend of hers.]
Video
It's-
[He nearly said "Clint" on reflex, but 'Mr. Barton' echoed around between his eyes and his brain a little bit and he decided to hold off on that for a now. At least until he could hear it out 'loud.]
Good y'know who I am. Makes things a lot easier.
