[A pretty, pale-skinned woman with "sea green" (I don't write the canon narration, okay) eyes is holding the communicator too close to her face. Depending on your frame of reference, she looks like a blond Vulcan or a more or less unremarkable elf, and she's wearing an expression of slightly exasperated concentration. And she is definitely talking to herself.]

Aww man, I bet Starkphones are better than this.

[She's accidentally turned on the broadcast, you see, because she's from the early 90s and how does personal electronics that aren't from Atlantis. Quick study, though, and she giggles a little as she realizes she's transmitting.]

Whoops. Hi, everybody. My name's Nita, nice to meet you, can someone tell me how to record a voicemail greeting on this please and thank you?

[Obviously it has to have voicemail, duh.

Technological hiccups notwithstanding, Nita seems quite unbothered by having been kidnapped into space, and she settles back, pulling her long ponytail forward over a bare shoulder as she does so to avoid pinning herself to the seat by her own hair. The new angle reveals that she's wearing a scaly green bathing suit and not much else...and she's seemingly unbothered by that, too, looking at the feed with an expectant, friendly smile.]

That was more supposed to be a comment on the size of the fight that inevitably happens, but yeah. A bus is what, 10 tons?

[Another shrug.]

I can lift way more than that.

[Nita's a little smug, but not to obnoxious levels. She just really likes being her.]

[Holy shit. Okay. Chloe can't decide if she's in awe or just doesn't believe her. A week ago she wouldn't have believed her, but now...]

[Hey wait a second.]

[That was still a weird thing.]

What's voicemail?

[ He's not on the video feed. He's sitting right behind her, empty tray of food next to him. What? He's a growing ~~boy~~ Grey Warden! He needs lots of calories! ]

I mean, I understand voice and mail, but how do you put the two together?

[What do these two things have to do with each other, Chloe?]

Well, yeah. I don't like the automated greetings where it just reads off the number.

[And here's a fuzzy blue guy waving at the screen.]

Hey there Nita! My name's Kurt. Nice to meet you. Sounds like someone filled you in about the voicemail already... Try to make it a funny one!

...Man, I didn't know they made phones, though. Is that a future thing or a different world thing? [Excuse him, he's still coping with having talked to an alternate version of his best friend.]

[It's just so weird.]

...Sure, why not.. Most people ask about going home or escaping, from what I've seen.

[Nita half-turns in her seat to see who's talking to her. Hello, new...hot guy. She smiles a bit more warmly than the question deserves. This could certainly be worse.]

When someone calls and you don't answer, they can record a message and you play it back later. Like a note or letter, but with talking instead of writing. So, voicemail.

[Nightcrawler when did you become a baby. Nita blinks at the screen and tactfully doesn't mention that he seems to have misplaced a good 15 years somewhere.]

Maybe both?

[She has no idea what 616 Kurt's childhood was like and thus no idea if this is just a younger version from her world.]

Anyway, when I get home I definitely need one because they're awesome.

["Need" is a strong word for that, Nita.]

I didn't have any plans back home [haha let's never talk about what a shambles her life is currently] and I'm good, but I never figured out how to breathe vacuum. Besides, why would I talk about escaping on a phone the people who kidnapped me gave to me? That's like saying "hey, come foil my plans, please!"

Bacon kelp. [She laughs.] Namor would explode.

It is a vegetarian option.

There were also several bioluminscent fish I bought there as pets, though they have their own portable tanks. We used them as light sources when we had a brief blackout.

Fish don't bother me.

[Whether she bothers them is another story.]

Well, I might just take you up on that. Going without for a few days won't have any real effect, as long as I take a good long shower every day.

[ Aw, a pretty elf girl! Who isn't automatically suspicious of him just because he's human! This must be Alistair's lucky day or something.

Though how an elf knows about this stuff is beyond him. She must be an elf from a different world. ]

You mean like - on one of these? [ He picks up his own device and waves it about. ] I'm still trying to figure it out.

You're certainly welcome as often as you'd like. The showers are unlimited, though the hot water's not.

And we are likely to be at this station for another few weeks, if you prefer a regular pool. There may even be an artificial lake or two in the parks.

I guess. Far as everyone's sayin', if anyone is listening to us, there's never been any sign of it.

[Hmm.]

So are you some kind of superhero?

[Not elf! Atlantean! ...Who are basically aquatic elves circa the Dales so uh. Moving on.]

Yeah. These aren't like the ones at home, so I'm worried I'm going to accidentally broadcast a lovely view up my nose or something.

[Nita gives the communicator a suspicious look. She doesn't trust you.]

Heh. I'm Atlantean. You know what temperature the water is at the bottom of the ocean?

[Just about the only time Nita gets smug is when she's talking about her physical capabilities. Being her is awesome.]

Fresh water I could take or leave, but maybe I'll go exploring.

[The question gets a flash of...something across Nita's face. She's not even sure what she's feeling, so the more power to Chloe if she can figure it out.]

...For a while. Not right now.

Oh, indeed. The showers should be no hardship at all, in that case.

[That explains why he doesn't know her yet, then. They certainly haven't made contact with Atlantis yet.]

I hope we encounter another planet with an ocean soon, then. I'd be interested in exploring with you. [He's not much of a swimmer per se, but it's not like breathing is a problem.]

[Nope, no idea. She catches it, but doesn't know what to attribute it to.]

But you were. I mean, if you can pick up a bus what other job is gonna be fun right?

You have these things where you come from? Do you also fly up into space?

[ This is all terribly new for the poor medieval fantasy guy. Help him out, Nita. ]
