[ The video starts, but it would be easy to assume at first that the young man featured in it was still asleep. He's got a grey beanie shoved over his eyes in a manner that was definitely intentional. But after a long moment, he groans and sits up, pulling the beanie up so he can see what he's doing. ]

...Ugh. Where...

[ He does notice the camera after a moment, and he freezes. It's with an entirely unhappy scowl that he turns away after a moment, looking around. ]

What the hell is this?

[ He didn't ask for this, and he definitely doesn't seem impressed to be the latest member of intergalactic reality television. ]

[ She's not quite human, but hey, his team back in Aather had a troll in it, so he can take her unusual appearance (by his standards) in stride. ]

Let's just go with the bad news first.

Well...

[Very quickly:] You're in space and there's no way to get home.

In space?

[ He runs a hand down his face and sighs. ]

Well, that's new.

[ He figures that just meeting someone is not the best time to say, "I was never planning on going back home," so he just ignores that part. ]

Yup! Welcome to space.

[ He glances away from the video screen. ]

I've been more of a planet-bound kind of guy.

Yeah, most people here are. It's so weird.

[ He cocks his head slightly to one side. ]

I take it you're used to space travel?

Yep! You bet.

It's pretty common where I'm from.

[ His tone is understated, but he seems impressed. ]

That must be pretty exciting.

Well, it's not for everyone, but... I like it.

What's it like, anyway? ...Since I'm going to have to get used to it now.

Huh? Oh.... There's ships, airplanes, trains. Bicycles.

[ Shinjiro shrugs slightly. ]

I didn't actually travel around a lot.

Well. It's a lot faster than any of those things.

[Obviously.]

Looking out and seeing nothing but stars... I'm not sure if it would be beautiful or terrifying.

[ Maybe both. ]

... But they do say you can go crazy if you stare at hyperspace for too long. So. That's a thing.

Ah? Seriously? Go crazy?

[ He's startled, even though part of him thinks this shouldn't be a surprise. ]

Well... I don't know if it's true... but nobody wants to risk it.

Understandable. So... It's just a matter of staying distracted, then.

Right. Usually there isn't so much to do while we're traveling, but you're in luck. The station here has loads of stuff. So if you have anything you like for entertainment-- books, holodramas-- you should stock up on them here before we leave.

[ It's not that he doesn't appreciate the thought, but— ]

Normally we get a small allowance from the Atroma but... at the moment our accounts are frozen. There's some bureaucratic nonsense going on.

So. Looks like you'll have to get a job!

A job?

[ He's going to take a moment to enjoy being dragged to a place that actually has a monetary system in place. But after a moment, he speaks up again. ]

That doesn't sound so bad.

Mm. I do some shuttle jobs from time to time.

You got anything in mind?

[ Shinjiro shakes his head. ]

Not off the top of my head... I don't even really know what options there are for jobs around here.
