The Way to a Blue Fish's Heart...

Who: Blue Fish crew and visitors
Broadcast: Maybe some accidental, but not overall
Action: The Blue Fish kitchen
When: All Day, Feb. 7

[It had been a rough month for a lot of the Blue Fish crew. From blenders to family members and lost friends and blocked credits, they'd been soldiering on through a lot. And while Jilly was new enough to have skirted by most of the drama, she was keenly aware of the underlying stress of her crewmates. She wants to help.

Sometimes, though, words aren't enough...and so she sets about taking advantage of her augment to the best of her ability. For the past month she's been collecting recipes from the datary and experimenting with the supplies provided by the Atroma. And, in the days leading up to the 7th, she quietly recruits Beverly for a pair of extra hands with some Station grocery shopping and behind-the-scenes planning.

It's not announced, but on such a small ship it's hard to miss that something is going on that day. Forgoing her usual trip to the Station for job hunting and people watching, Jilly gets up extra early and sets the kitchen in motion. Recipes are taped up on the cabinets, ingredients are gathered, and so begins a marathon of food.]

[Between the combined forces of Jilly and Beverly, the two "cooks" for the Blue Fish will be setting out food all day as a bit of a much needed holiday for their crew (and any visitors who stop by). Volunteer as a taste-tester, grab food on the run, help clean dishes between baking bouts, or simply sit and relax with your crew mates. Food therapy is a go.]

You're welcome... though really Jilly should get most of the credit here.
save_the_souls: (let's try it)

Ah- don't worry, I thanked her too.

Still! You put in a lot of hard work! And I think it's really helping. [It's been awhile since he's seen the crew in this high of spirits]
dancingmd: (chinhands)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-09 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Me too... the crew needed a pick me up since... well since we got back from the Marsiva, really.
save_the_souls: (Crowley- chilling with the uncle)

I'd agree with that.

[He smiles at her]

Which dishes are your favourite?
dancingmd: (knowing smile)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-12 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Beverly nods towards a pot on the stove.]

The potato soup. Or... I guess, they aren't really potatoes, but they're a similar root vegetable. If you haven't had any yet, Jilly flavored it with some of Vision's bacon kelp, so it's completely vegetarian.

Really? [He grins] I'll have to try it!

[Along with EVERYTHING ELSE. But moving on...]

Oh, I met Captain Kirk.
dancingmd: (hot milk toddy)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-12 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? What do you think of him?
save_the_souls: (well huh)

[personal profile] save_the_souls 2016-02-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
He seems friendly...!

What about you? Is it true he was a former captain of your ship? You must know more about him than I do.
dancingmd: (quirk)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-12 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ah... well, it's complicated. There was a James Kirk who captained the Enterprise - though not the vessel you would have seen in my calibrations - a hundred years ago. This Kirk is not that Kirk, however. He's from a universe parallel to mine, so most of what I know of him is no longer applicable, and most of that was from history classes anyway. I never had the fortune to meet Captain Kirk in my time, though I have met some of those who served with him.
save_the_souls: (ah yeah I left it....in the ark oops)

[personal profile] save_the_souls 2016-02-12 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. So he's a figure from the past who is also from a parallel universe...

[This actually makes more sense than you'd expect it to. Good old paradisa hijinks]

Well, I guess this still counts as having the fortune of meeting a historical figure! [CLOSE ENOUGH] And it's pretty incredible that the Enterprise's name has carried on for a hundred years. [SOME SHIP YOU GOT THERE]

dancingmd: (what do you know about this girl?)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-12 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Longer than that even. Humanity's first space shuttle was called the Enterprise, four hundred years ago. It's become tradition, I suppose, for the flagship to always be named Enterprise after that first historical spacecraft.
save_the_souls: (well huh)

[personal profile] save_the_souls 2016-02-14 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Four hundred years...wow...

That's a proud legacy to be part of.

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-14 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly is... And I think it's probably one thing the Enterprise crew always has in common, past or present: we're all inordinately proud of our ship and feel privileged to be part of it.
save_the_souls: (I don't know what the future will bring)

[personal profile] save_the_souls 2016-02-15 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I could see that...

I hope he does alright out here then, with being a Captain and all. Having to be on ships that isn't his Enterprise.
dancingmd: (listening)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-15 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so too.

[She glances over at Kirk, who for now seems to be perfectly in his element, chatting up her crewmates and their friends and of course, flirting whenever possible.]

It will probably be difficult for him at first. [She turns her focus back to Allen.] No captain likes to have their command taken from them, but especially not one such as Kirk. If anyone was ever married to Starfleet, it was him. [Her mouth forms a grim line.] And he never did like to lose, always declared he didn't believe in the no-win scenario.
save_the_souls: (oh for fuck's sake)

[personal profile] save_the_souls 2016-02-16 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah....

[He rubs the back of his head. Thinking about that. That...definitely sounds like...]

Is it...wrong I'm a little relieved he wasn't assigned to the Blue Fish?

[Since dude that sounds like a massive headache to deal with as a first mate]
dancingmd: (talk to me)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-16 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Beverly huffs out a small laugh.]

No, it's not. To tell the truth, I am too. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he's here, and I'm sure he'll be around the Blue Fish enough as it is but...

[But Blue Fish hardly needs more drama and she doesn't want any... assumptions made about where she stands.]
save_the_souls: (politely ask not to kill us)

[personal profile] save_the_souls 2016-02-17 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
...But it'll make things easier between the two of you when there's boundaries between you and his command as a Federation captain.

[Yeah. He can get it. Divided loyalties can be rough, and it's not like Kirk's ever done anything yet to earn Beverly's personal loyalty- and that's what truly mattered in places like this]
dancingmd: (chinhands)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-02-18 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

[She picks up a roll, tears off a piece, and chews thoughtfully. It'd be different if it were Jean-Luc. It would also be a lot harder, in that case. Kirk's a Starfleet captain, one the most famous in history, but he's not her captain, nor, more importantly, is he her best friend.]

Of course, maybe I'm worried for nothing. It's not as if I ever knew Kirk personally, and even if I had, he's not him.
