[Varric appears to have an enthralled audience in this restaurant. He's got some Floot Loops cocktail thing in one hand, with a cute little fruity straw, and he's gesturing wildly with the other hand while he describes something or another. There are more drinks and plenty more food on the table behind him.]

—and then the thing exploded! Right in her face! She just reached up and wiped the blood across her nose, like facepaint. The rest of them turned tail and fled. Why the hell would they stay? Their leader was dead, and they had a pretty pissed-off mage wearing its blood like a damned war trophy.

The rest of that's in my book. Tale of the Champion. I don't want to spoil the whole thing for you all, so you'll have to wait until I find a publishing company out here. I'll take suggestions. And donations.

[He sips his drink. The aliens appear to be clearing out, however reluctantly.]

[oh! but as she rolls her chair closer to the table, she pauses and realizes something]

But I should at least introduce myself first. My name is Nunnally Lamperouge. It's a pleasure to meet you.

[He waves down a waiter and orders a hot cocoa for her. Which... comes with Floot Loops sponsored marshmallows, but what can you do?]

Varric Tethras. [He smiles disarmingly.] The pleasure's mine. Where are you from?

Earth. Although, it sounds as if there are many people here from different versions of Earth. [it's crazy to imagine one without Britannia, but oh well...]

And what about you?

I'm from Thedas. Kirkwall, specifically. No idea what earth is, except a fancy word for dirt.

[The waiter returns fairly quickly. It's not as if this place is super freaking busy. There's your hot cocoa, kid.]

[oh! she perks up at the arrival, and gives a thanks to the waiter before taking the coco. Yum :3 She blows on it and waits before taking a sip]

It's that too in our world. [she wonders idly how that is. fascinating]

What is Kirkwall like?

Huh, that's an odd thing to have in common. Or maybe it's the... translator... thing... Whatever.

[He sips his own drink.]

Hm... Big. Crowded, but lonely. The nicest-looking places belong to the rich or those who managed to claw their way to the top of the ladder. The real parts of the city, the major ones-- those are darker. There's lots of crime, lots of places to disappear. It's been in bad shape for a while, but it's home.

[aw... the fondness is obvious and it makes her smile despite the sadder parts. And parts of that remind her of the city where she grew up]

Do you make a living in the real city?

[merchantprince]

[He chuckles.] I make a living doing a lot of things.

I live in a suite above the Hanged Man, which is the biggest tavern in town. It's where everyone goes: poor, rich, whatever. There's never a dull moment.

[He didn't really answer her question, haha.]

[haha, she notices. But she doesn't mind, she only just met the man and it's hardly her business. SO she'll roll with it]

Living in a tavern? That must be rather loud, but it does sound nice.

[...] Do they give you a discount on food and drink? You must be their best customer.

What can I say? I like being where the action is.

[He doesn't want to tell her that he does some underhanded shit like right off the bat. Maybe in like, a half hour.]

Yeah, it's not bad. I have a tab they let me pay whenever.

I'm sorry that you have to spend so much time away from it. [....] It sounds like you miss it.

[He smiles, and there's something undeniably soft about it.]

It's all right. I'll always be a city dwarf at heart, but traveling is good for the soul.

[she just laughs softly and takes a sip of her hot chocolate]

You're selling yourself short. [urk! she starts suddenly when she realizes what she said and in a rare show of awkwardness she looks back at him]

[He doesn't even look offended, he just laughs.]
