.06 you give love a bad name
Who: Rogue
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Yup, in a station bar and back on the Vanquish
When: Forward-dated to Valentine's Day
[It dawns on Rogue slowly that it is actually Valentine's day and her romantic feelings have been completely unaffected. When it does, she can't help but let out a whoop and rush to celebrate. Find her (a) in a middle-range bar on the space station, getting a little tipsy and flirting with basically everything that moves just to go NOPE and walk away, because SHE CAN, TAKE THAT.
At some point, she even makes a video post:]
Best. Valentine's Day. Ever.
[She holds up a hand, and in that hand is a glass of champagne. She toasts to the network.] Thanks, Atroma, for makin' this Valentine's Day kiss free.
[After all, the Malnosso had never let a February 14th go by without experimenting egregiously with Luceti's inhabitants.
And so, (b) later on and feeling a bit tipsy, she is back on the Vanquish. She has purchased chocolates and roses for everybody. She is setting them out in the kitchen with little cards, hoping she's got everyone's name right because they have approximately a zillion more people right now.
Much, much later, probably around the time sobriety starts, she'll remember something about 'tempting fate' and wish she'd kept her mouth shut -- but right now? Best. Valentine's Day in years.]

[Though, come to think of it, they'd actually been here for a while] ...or at least, I think we'll be here for another week.
[And how will she get money? Hmm.]
video »
What is this, Communist Russia? [ don't answer that. ] Right. Okay. Fingers crossed for getting, uh, 'shuffled' ASAP-ity.
[ because when it doubt, quote loki??? ]
video »
[So you're gonna need to make bank fast once you get on the station.]
video »
[ well, great. ]
I don't suppose you're interested in a hero for hire? Private investigator, maybe? [ it's worth a try. ]
video »
I usually do my own heroin'... [It's not really a surprise that this is another hero-type, this place seems to attract them.] Or try ta, anyway. Ain't much that needs investigatin'... but I'll tell ya what, if ya get down here I can point ya to a place or two that'll get ya flush fast, if ya meet some basic heroin' requirements.
[Like holding your own in a fight.] --what's your augment, anyway?
video »
instead: ] Not sure. [ she rubs a hand across the tell-tale modification. ] Haven't really figured it out, yet.
video »
video »
until then, ] I guess all that's left is the introductions. [ deep breath. ] I'm Kate. Bishop.
[ her family name is something of an afterthought. just in case. ]
video »
Rogue. Welcome ta the fleet. [A wry little quirk of her lips.]
video »
(then again, she didn't exactly 'recognize' rogue, either. only elements thereof that added up to an assumption.)
deep breath. ]
I gotta admit, I'm a little relieved...

...'bout?

Rogue glowers at her halfway empty glass for a moment and then sets it down so she can toggle the journal over to private.]

[Like the one where she apparently marries MAGNETO. Or the one when she went by Marie, and that was still close enough that it pissed her off.]
Last I counted, there were at least five different alternate realities with folks like us in 'em... an' there are whole rows of Earths with nothin' like us at all.
private video »
So which is the one where you're from? [ she asks, guessing (perhaps) that it's rude to go parading someone's alterna-self in front of them with anecdotes and descriptions. ]

[ because kate's run into five or ten versions of herself found in mayfly dimensions, and they were (more often than not) nasty pieces of work. real trashy types -- not even good enough to be villains. more like mooks. ] Look it...doesn't hafta be weird. Don't let me make it any weirder than it already is. It isn't like we know each other. Just.
[ god, how to say it? ] We made eye contact a few times. That's all.
private video »
Weird? This is nothin'. [But okay, let's see this through.] Made eye-contact how?
private video »
Sometimes, I see you in the crowd. You know -- during meetings. Parties. You're [ oh god this is embarrassing, especially for kate freaking bishop ] cool. Like, too cool.
[ out of her league. ]
private video »
Okay, she. Flatterin' as all that is, an' cool as I think I am, I definitely ain't too cool, okay?
[So take that as you will, but Rogue hopes you will take that in a 'You are not alone, there are hands you can take old of here including mine' - figuratively speaking, anyway. Actually, screw figuratively speaking:] I know ya heard the platitudes, but believe me when I say: We are all in this together.
private video »
[ it's said with the finality of someone who doesn't miss the mark twice. or, at least, tries very very hard not to. kate's a born and bred perfectionist; failure is not an option, and that includes pronoun mishaps. ]
Nice to meet you, Rogue. [ so let's start fresh. blank slate. ] Happy Valentine's Day.
private video »
[But okay, Rogue has a suspicion that she's not going to just let go.] So, Kate Bishop, hero for hire? You run a solo act?
[Meetings. Parties.]
private video »
[ and now that she's saying it aloud to rogue of all people, it sounds more than a little juvenile for a 21 year old woman to be part of a team called the young avengers. but that's easier than explaining her association with clint. ]
