[ So, a week after the SS Bloodsport has gotten itself a capacity upgrade, it's gotten a new pilot! This calls for some quality time together, checking in with the captain, and generally doing whatever the heck you wanna do.

And don't worry! The pilot definitely knows what he's doing. :) ]

[ riku gives a noncommittal noise, and then nods. ]

Kairi and Sora, they've been my best friends since I can remember. She's the responsible one, when me and Sora're too thick-headed. [ there goes another laugh of his--it's softer this time, and he pushes his hair back again, fiddling with a strand near his neck. ]

We've been apart for... [ he shakes his head and his hand drops to his lap. ] I don't know. A while.

[ he finally looks up to robin, and seeing the quirk of his grin, he tilts his head. ]

What?

[he looks up again, caught...]

Nothing, I'm just... glad that you're happy.

[his smile grows a little wider--and he doesn't seem like he's making fun, either.]

If Kairi ever shows up, she's welcome on board as well.

[ confusion writes itself all over his face again, along with some pink.

robin is glad he's happy? of course he understands what those words mean, but he can't for the life of him understand the sentiment. first the crew capacity upgrade, and... this, too? he can't help but wonder if there's something going on here. he looks down at his journal, trying to figure out something to say, and his head snaps up. ]

You're-- [ what? kairi, too? of course he'd love for kairi to be with them, but his stomach twists. ]

I don't get it. Why're you so nice about this? [ he tries another option. ] Sh... shouldn't a captain be more choosy about his crew?

[settle down there, partner--the look on his face evens out to something a little more casual. he's got to put business into this. he doesn't want Riku to think he's doting on him or anything. that would be (mostly) untrue...]

Sora was an easy choice. I wanted a pilot, and now I've got one. But... [he shrugs.] When push comes to shove, I think a crew that cares about each other is going to hold together better than a crew of skilled strangers.

[ he looks at robin evenly, like he's trying to figure out if he fits into the puzzle.

riku can't deny that observation, he thinks that too. sure, he doubted sora's abilities at first, but that was at first. he frowns after a moment and sighs. ]

And hey. [might as well give him one little push.] It's your ship too, kid.

Keep saying that and I might actually apply for first mate.

[ deflecting with humor, yes! ]

[he laughs! a surprised little thing. he supposes Riku's pretty much a first mate already, in everything but the official title... but he won't say that, in case that's not quite what he meant.]

All right, all right. I wanted to check in about that other stuff, too. From after Rin left.

[ he raises his brows. ]

Yeah? I wondered where you went, but I wasn't gonna pry.

Yeah. I went into the forest, pretty far... My form has kind of a time limit, so I needed to shed my skin for a while.

[that's weird to admit out-loud. it was weird to admit around a bunch of dragons and it's still weird to admit to a human... he runs his hand through his hair, pushing through the topic.]

And I might have gone drinking a little, after, with a friend of mine. Just blowing off steam, I guess.

[ a blink. he needed to ... shed his skin? like a snake?

he tilts his head--the drinking doesn't bother him too much, he knows robin does it and he doesn't quite care. ]

[Tek wouldn't have let anything bad happen to him. sure, he also shot him in the head once, but what's a couple of bullets between friends...? anyway. it's good of Riku to ask.]

[ riku would argue that a bullet to the head sounds like the antithesis of a friend but then again he also tried to kill sora once upon a time.

riku does visibly relax, though. ]

Good. [ his lips quirk up into a little smile. ] Ship wouldn't be the same without you.
