the word of the day is "paranoia"

Who: Kirito / OTA
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Hiding out in engineering on the Paisley, if you so desire
When: Now!

[So, this is something he's been wondering - and eventually, seriously considering - for the last couple of months, mostly when they landed on Arslae and he realized how ill-equipped he is to deal with conflict. For most people, it would simply be a matter of avoiding fights. But for him... well. It's kind of all he's ever been good for.

Getting told that, hey, one of your crewmates is a murderer is more or less the last straw to break through his indecisive camel back.]

I have a question, mostly for whoever's gotten personal those personal augment upgrades you can buy, or at least thought about it. I'd really like to know- what's it like? Which did you choose? Why would you choose to get one- or why not? I mean, the people offering them up aren't exactly trustworthy, but they all sound pretty useful, too.

Basically, I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons. I'd appreciate the help.

Nah, you can. Just know that sometimes, I may not be able to answer it.

[He shrugs, a little helplessly. Sometimes, Stefan thinks, he's better off not remembering.]
stefanged: (that would do it)

From what I understand. The girl who turned me was in the... five hundreds? [He thinks. Hard to tell with Remi Scarlet.]

You've also got the newborns - the ones turned a year or two ago, but most tend to be significantly older.

You'd get used to it after a few decades. I mean, you can't really settle anywhere because you don't age, but beyond that... the sky would be the limit.

Not all over... but I live in the Middle East now. I told you about Tokyo, and I've seen the Netherlands and New Zealand too.

[All in the past two years. Stefan's scarily well-traveled, given his age.]

Honestly, most of my travel's within the US. I didn't see much reason to leave.
stefanged: (oh really now?)

No kidding. Do you think you would've gone through with it?

I've seen some of the kids at my local university. You'd easily qualify.

[Though now that he thinks about it...] After the invasion happened, I had to take some classes in Jordan. It was tough at first, but you get used to the language.

Oh. No harm in trying, right?

I'd offer help, but I don't think we're even remotely from the same world. [Considering that virtual reality MMOs were a far-off dream, and well, also considering giant alien invasion.]

We had aliens try and take over the planet. [He winces, because it was both traumatic and as weird as it sounded.] They didn't succeed but it was - it's not something you forget.
stefanged: (i told you so)

[a resigned sigh] You seriously don't know the half of it.

I want to remember it all, so I've been writing it out in diary after diary... but I'm starting to think I'll fill a whole bookshelf before I'm done.
stefanged: (that is a fair point)

Maybe, but there's always the risk of Atroma reading it. Or you know, the whole Fleet since I'm still bad with encryption.

You can hack into things? [...] You should go for it.

Jennifer tried to record some stuff, back when we were on the Marsiva, but for some reason, the entries don't pop up.

[That's his real fear, since his diaries are the only detailed recollections he has. If Atroma can re-write (or erase) his entries, then he can't trust his communicator.]
