[Guess who just shows up to breakfast one... afternoon? Loki emerges from his office, looking for all the world like a man who has just woken up from an extended nap, barely open eyes, trying to stretch his back and shoulders, the whole nine. He wanders into the kitchen, fumbles around until he makes himself something hot and dark enough that he can pretend it's coffee, and stares suspiciously into the cup before drinking.

Ugh, his mouth tastes like someone glued one of Thor's feet to it. Ugh. What possessed him to sleep like this...

(Guess who has no idea he's been missing for weeks~)]

[Awake now, and... well, he looks amused. Which is to say as if he's planning on flaying someone alive.]

Why yes, I have returned. Hide all of the party favors, lock up your sons and daughters, cancel the pedestrian fireworks displays.

A funny thing, missing time. You'd never know it was gone until someone tells you. Has anyone else fallen victim to such thievery?

It was called Adstringendum. Many I've spoken to believe it's a place much like this one. Have you heard of it?

[How many of these prisons are there?]

It may be that you were not there long. I only knew of you for some weeks there-- you maintained a library. [One of Adstring's few pleasures for Makie. She had no quarrel with Loki. He had some with her out of sheer boredom, it seemed.]

Ah, a library does sound very much my style. I made the one in Luceti my particular interest. [And took on the occasional student.]

Hah. I claim no title. Corpses need no such thing. [Actually, he gets to be king now, but it's a secret. This is the game he's playing.]

... I see. [She honestly has no idea what to do with that information. Condolences? Nevertheless, Sir Loki is just a product of her own upbringing. It took a long time before she stopped calling everyone weird things like Mr Sam. Courtesy that stifles.]

Truly, it must have taken a great event to kill a god. Will Loki suffice, then, or do you have another preference?

Loki will suffice in casual conversation. Otherwise, I am Loki Friggason or Loki of Asgard.

By which of your names are you best called?

[That nets a smile. Though she doubts Loki is one that would ever be confused by her mouthful of a name.]

From where do you come, originally?

[What a telling pause. But it's caution. She understands caution.]

I come from Japan, some centuries before the average person from that world, it seems.

Ah, that is one of the nations on Midgard, yes? I knew several people from there whilst I was in Luceti, though the time periods are a bit fuzzy to me. Have you found the change to living in space particularly odd for that reason?

[Midgard throws her for a moment until she remembers she's heard Earth referenced that way before.] Yes, that's right. Though I haven't seen it in quite some time, as I spent a year in Adstringendum.

I suppose that was good for me, as it wasn't quite a large a jump as it could have been, but space was certainly very... breathtaking when I saw it the first time.

What manner of place is Adstringendum?

There is a great deal of beauty to it. The scales upon which space operates are... delightful.

I'm beginning to appreciate just how vast the world can be. [It makes her feel her country small and insignificant. Which, oddly, makes her feel a little better. Japan sucked.]

Adstringendum was quite bizarre... I understand it used to be quite lovely, but the people there accidentally triggered some kind of event that shattered their world. People and landmarks from other worlds began to slip through the cracks and find themselves there. So it was rather a chaotic sort of world. Haphazard architecture. All manner of people and creatures. The land itself was unstable in places.

Despite that, I grew to be very fond of it.

And beyond that, there are many dimensions. It is arguably infinite.

Hm, that sounds very interesting. [He likes chaos.] I think I should enjoy a visit to look around. Perhaps some day.

What did you do with your time there?

Precious little of interest, I fear. [While she's still cautious because she's not stupid, Makie is relaxing by degrees. This Loki seems to have less edges than the man she met. It's entirely within keeping for him to only pretend he doesn't know her, but she doesn't see why he would bother.]

I hunted for food. I learned how to garden. I looked after a child. I grew ill. Illness precluded me from doing much else, in the end.

A very ordinary sort of life in a strange land. [How boring. But fewer edges, perhaps, because he's very well positioned for his return to Asgard, and he's done the kidnapping shuffle before. He knows to not get overly excited about things now. Watch and wait works so much better.]

Though I do trust you've recovered from that illness.

It is a welcome change of pace for some of us. [She's aware how dull it sounds, but it's so rare in her life to find any sort of peace she embraced it wholeheartedly. Not that she begrudges another's opinion.]

And yes, just recently. Thanks to a friend. I'm recovering now.

[She's still thin, but not as wasted as she was a few weeks ago.]

I know that humans to not become so easily bored as I do.

I imagine as your lifespan so vastly eclipses our own, it would be very hard not to grow bored with most experiences in life.

It does. I have lived a thousand years already.

It's a common ailment in the universe. The Asgardians are generally very boring too.

[That would explain why he tried to pick a fight with her once. Really, that part didn't bother her so much. It was all the mockery that went with it. It doesn't seem likely to happen again.]

Have you ever found any worthy of your interest? [They're both playing the polite inquiry game.]

[Depends on how bored he is at the time, really. He's not above picking fights just for the sake of picking fights. It's one self-destructive habit among many.]

A few here and there. It is the individuals who are the saving grace of any species.

From my very limited experience with species, I think I would agree. [She didn't hate humanity, or even dislike it. But she'd certainly given up on them before she met a few key people.] You must know many thousands.

Not as many as you might think. We messed about on Midgard for some time, but then Odin decided we ought to leave you to your own devices. Though we watched.

Odin is... [Oh lord, how does one put it? He sounds an authority figure, but among gods?] ...a ruler? Adviser?
