[Well, it's been two days. Pretty sure she can rule out roofies by this point, and other potential illnesses given nothing changes. Pulse is still fine, breathing's regular, all that jazz. That leaves one likely possibility she can think of, given they've already proven Fleet passengers can be turned on and off at will.

Which irritates her. But who knows. Maybe the space orgy was just too much for their delicate viewers. HAH.]

Hey, so question. I know the augments are known to malfunction sometimes. What kind of malfunctions are we talking about? Have they ever... dropped anyone into a coma without warning?

...is there any way of countering it, if so?

[She bets this question has probably been asked a million times, but she can't find anything recent. Save her some reading material, guys.]

Oh good. We've got the Apple of augments in our heads. That's just-just great.

So people just get an electrical shortage and go comatose? That's a thing?

I don't know, that's what I'm trying to find out. [She's a little short, because you know, comatose friends and all.] I've got a friend down for the count, but he's not sick and he's not injured. The augments seemed like the next thing.

...also I don't get that reference. What's wrong with apples?

[Oh right. There was some purpose to this other than informing him of the second-rate crap they have rolling around in their skulls. But he sure as hell doesn't have an answer to any of that.]

So, what kind of malfunctions are you aware of?

And Apple, the-the brand...They make cellphones...comm devices...and they glitch all the damn time. Dropped calls. Accidental face-time. That sort of thing.

Mostly I'd heard of mood swings, things like that. Someone also just said cold symptoms-- minor things.

[...and comas have come up on the list, so. She guesses she was on the money.]

Guess they can be pretty major, too.

[She pinches the bridge of her nose, then gives him a wry look.] You know, the only reason any of that made sense was because of the augment. I don't come from a world with stuff like that. But I get what you mean.

[Apple sounds like a stupid-ass brand name, even so.]

Well those all sound-i mean people have mood swings and the sniffles all the time, it's a little hard to pinpoint it to the augment, isn't it? Seems more circumstantial. Now comas-well, I'm guessing those aren't all that common? [At least he really hopes not. He has a problem just sleeping around people, a coma is is a whole new level of defenselessness.]

Yeah? You don't have cellphones?

[He totally agrees.]

This was the first I'd seen of it, but I've got some corroboration now. It's happened to others, just... rarely. [And sometimes they get more memories of home. That's creepy.] And I'm guessing the mood swings or whatever are probably more extreme than normal. Otherwise I can't see anyone noticing at all.

No cellphones. Though I guess we could always have something similar. What's a cellphone?

Yeah, definitely worth keeping notes on, I'm sure. How long have you been here?

[Okay, there is definitely a technology gap here somewhere.] Why don't you tell me what tech is like where you're from and I'll see if I can fill in the gaps.

Ah... a few months, now.

Tech's pretty low key in our world, from what I've seen. We don't have cars or planes or spaceships-- most people travel by sea. I'm a pirate. [As an example.]

We've got some things that seem familiar, like a kind of communicator which is like these, but we can't type on it or see each other. It's voice only. [But she doesn't recognise cellphone, so... go figure.] They're not common. And there are some ways to broadcast onto a screen, but that's technology usually held by the marines.

...we've got some stuff nobody else has ever heard of, though. Like dials, and weather technology.

[In light of not really being able to help Sam, this is a welcome distraction.]

But at least most of makes sense. Considering some of the crazy shit he's heard, this is all normal. Even if her claiming to be a pirate gets a curious arch of a brow. She's not quite the image he has in his mind when he thinks of 'pirate'.

Okay, well. Uh. First. THe communicator like this that you can talk on? Sounds like old-school cellphones. Eventually they added text. And then they added video. So. Close, I guess. Cellphones are pretty much like what we're using now.

Dials and weather tech. you might have to explain, because that actually sounds pretty familiar.

[YOU ASKED, GOD. Tech is weird in her world. At that last part, she gives a snort and a sideways look at FDR, because she gets the tone you're using there, sir.]

[She'll get to the tech part in a minute, gotta be vain first.]

[Okay. So he did. But pace yourself, woman. Actually, he doesn't mind a woman that can keep the conversation going, the more its on her and the less it's on him, usually the better.

You know. I got no doubts. I'm guessing there's not much of a reason for swimsuits in space though, huh?

Nope. Though I'm told we visit ocean planets some time, so I guess I'll keep my hopes high on that score. Then you can judge for yourself.

[She grins.]

[A pause.] Though you know, swimsuits really are nothing but decorated underwear.

[Just saying, if you wanna show off earlier than a water planet.]

[Snrk.] You don't say. [He'll have fun if he ever meets her in person. Nami's taste often runs to wearing a bikini top and jeans.

But rather than give him a more direct response to that, because it's more fun to be vague about it, she just grins at him, eyebrows lifted.]

[And his lips curve into a teasing smile.] They do.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind. [She's grinning outright now.] Are you going to tell me what it stands for or do I have to resort to all kinds of embarrassing guesses?

Embarrassing guesses? What, are you not good at these kind of games? Because I'm starting to think we could turn this into an interesting game.

No, I think we can do without ship food. There's some nice places on station. Though if you're not in any hurry, we're bound to turn up at a planet with a decent beach eventually.

Well. I don't see why we can't do both. [Like he's ever going to turn down a girl in a swimsuit.]

Though, who knows if the next planet will have as much good choices to eat from. So, we might as well get dinner while getting's good, hm?
