[Well, it's been two days.  Pretty sure she can rule out roofies by this point, and other potential illnesses given nothing changes.  Pulse is still fine, breathing's regular, all that jazz.  That leaves one likely possibility she can think of, given they've already proven Fleet passengers can be turned on and off at will.

Which irritates her.  But who knows.  Maybe the space orgy was just too much for their delicate viewers.  HAH.]

Hey, so question.  I know the augments are known to malfunction sometimes.  What kind of malfunctions are we talking about?  Have they ever... dropped anyone into a coma without warning?

...is there any way of countering it, if so?

[She bets this question has probably been asked a million times, but she can't find anything recent.  Save her some reading material, guys.]

The Marines... I was going to ask, surely there must be some of law enforcement that does look to kindly upon all these pirates, good ones or otherwise.

They must be feeling quite understaffed if there are so many of you.

I don't doubt it. But there's more of them than there are of us, and they still hold more power. Mostly, if we see marines, we run.

So your home is full of marines and pirates? Are the seas big enough to hold all of you?

[She means it as a joke, but there is some definite curiosity there, too.]

Oh, the seas are definitely vast enough. We can go weeks without seeing another ship.

[Their population is pretty small compared to Earth. And there's a lot of turnover of both pirates and marines. The seas are dangerous of their own accord.]

Your home must have rather large oceans then. Are they not hard to navigate?

[namisan]

Hmm... the four Blues aren't hard. They're not terribly huge, either. [Well-- when ships are still powered purely by sail, they're certainly huge enough.]

The Grand Line is another matter. It's affected by so many different kinds of magnetic pull from the different islands there a normal compass won't work and the seas get pretty crazy to travel on. But that's where the action is, so most pirates head there eventually.

The four Blues... and the Grand Line...

[Wanda repeats the names, making sure she understands.]

So these are all the oceans in your home? And this Grand Line is the most dangerous and complicated?

[namisan]

That's right. North Blue, East Blue, South Blue, West Blue. [To qualify.] I come from East Blue, originally.

The Grand Line... the weather is insane. It can go from heat to snow in the space of minutes, and the cyclones there hit mostly without warning. Fun place.

East blue... so do people where you are from identify more with the ocean nearest to them? Rather than the name of the town or country they were born in?

Heat to snow to cyclones in minutes? How is that possible?

[namisan]

Oh, no. I definitely think of myself as being from Cocoyashi Village, in the Konomi Archipelago. But when it comes to the grand scale of the world, there are so many hundreds, maybe thousands of islands, that the ocean is what they'll be more familiar with.

...as to your other question, honestly? I'm still trying to work that out. Magnetic fields play havoc with normal modes of navigation, but by rights that shouldn't affect the weather to such extremes. It's just not a normal ocean by anyone's definition.

I see. Many different islands... what would you say is about the size of your home's largest land mass then?

[Wanda's naturally curiosity clearly on display, as she builds on the image forming in her head of Nami's home.]

Clearly, I know the oceans can be treacherous back home, too. But certainly nothing like what you are describing. [Wanda considers for a moment.] Could it be supernatural?

[S'alright. Being a cartographer, Nami's more than happy to geek at Wanda. It takes her mind off Mr Comatose besides.]

That'd be the Red Line. It's the only landmass big enough to be classed a continent and it bisects the Grand Line in half. It's where the marines and the World Government and Nobles have some of their strongest bases. [It's not as unpredictable as other places.]

...and I guess it's possible. It certainly doesn't obey any laws of meteorology I grew up with, and it's not like our world is completely normal in every other way. I mean-- comparatively.

[She's found trying to explain her world is very bizarre sometimes. When you're a resident and you still think it's weird...]

[Wanda nods her head in understanding, a more clear picture of Nami's home being formed in her head.]

The Red Line... and it divides this Grand Line in two? There is no way around it?

[namisan]

Over it or under it. That's about it. There's a mountain where the current's so strong the water flows up and over it-- it can be risky to get to, but that's the only way to technically sail over it. Either that or you take your ship overland, and if you're a pirate you won't get very far.

There's a passageway through the Red Line under the sea, large enough for ships to pass through. But there's some, uh... obvious complications with that one.

Over or under... both clearly seem problematic.

The water really flows uphill?

[namisan]

Yeah. [She grins.] It's called Reverse Mountain. Due to odd climate, the mountain's vastly colder than the waters surrounding it, and the force of the sea itself pushes water uphill. It's not a particularly gigantic mountain, but the current is dangerous. A lot of ships don't even make it to the top.

I would love to see something like that. Maybe not experience it, myself, but to see it would be pretty amazing.

Are there many other similarly difficult types of terrain where you are from?

[namisan]

I'm not sure about 'difficult' but I could certainly give you bizarre. But I could be here a while if I start going on about all the things I wanted to throw a geography book at.

...the Knock-Up Stream certainly counts as bizarre and difficult.
