ϟ ( video ; action )
Who: yu & idk everyone.
Broadcast: fleetwide.
Action: the marsiva.
When: presently.
( of course he's cold when he wakes up – it's that same, familiar feeling all over again – but the second he opens his eyes, there's a wrongness that lingers in the air around him that he can't quite put his finger on. his head feels like it's full of stuffing, and there's a tinge of dread that slithers about the back of his mind that sets his teeth on edge, an anxious and restless sort of thing that he doesn't like at all.
when he sits up, there's a sort of ping that brings around the realization of, at least in part, why everything feels wrong.
he's on the marsiva. he hasn't been on the marsiva since he'd been assigned to his new ship, with its own crew. he'd cooked for them, he remembers that as well, and it's all the more confusing because he has no memory at all of taking a shuttle back here.
so … what's happened?
he hasn't addressed the network just yet, but he pulls himself to his feet and begins walking around the deck, taking in the screens and staying well away from the viewing window this time around – because figuring out you're capable of getting space-sick a little too late is never a nice thing – and it's all just like the first time he'd woken up here, all save for that lingering feeling that he's missing something.
something important.
under normal circumstances – or, at the very least, keeping with the same course of action he'd taken when he'd woken up here the first time – he would stay quiet. he would figure things out for himself. but as he's learned over the course of investigating murders and relying on his friends to help him make important decisions, he's more than learned that there's nothing wrong with asking for assistance when you really need it.
so he's sending out an s.o.s. )
… I think I'm missing something. It feels like I'm missing something. ( he's normally pretty keen on keeping his expression neutral, and he's good at it – but here, he looks every bit as confused and distressed as he feels, even if he manages to keep his tone level. unwavering. )
Only new arrivals wake up on the Marsiva, right? I'm not new – and I'm pretty sure you can't sleep-hijack a shuttle. ( well, at least he still has a sense of humor. ) Has this ever happened to anyone else?
( and, maybe a little more quietly – ) … Yosuke? Are you watching?

Video
[Numerous thoughts and questions fly through Wanda's head, as she quickly reaches over and turns on her communicator's video feed. Her face is a mixture of emotions: fear, hope, confusion, anger, joy, sorrow. Her voice even catches a little at first.]
Sou- Souji? Is that you?
video;
I'm sorry, I don't think I'm who you're looking for. My name is Yu.
no subject
[After a moment, her expression shifts. She smiles weakly, a poor attempt at hiding how she really feels.]
I see... sorry... my mistake.
[A slight pause before she adds:]
You look like someone I knew.
no subject
his own expression softens, and he immediately regrets having come out with the truth so willingly - damn, yu, isn't your understanding stat higher than that? - and he searches for something to say, something to smooth over the wound he's no doubt opened. )
I'm sorry. ( he says again, for lack of anything better to say, and he feels absolutely dumb for it. ) Someone you knew? ( emphasis on the past tense, of course. ) They aren't here anymore?
( obviously, dear ... otherwise she wouldn't have looked so surprised when you showed up. )
no subject
No apology necessary... [Least, not from him. Not from this person.] And yes, he did leave... a little while ago.
no subject
he still feels sorry, even if he knows it isn't his fault she looks like she's about to fall apart. )
I'm sorry to keep on a topic that is obviously painful for you, but if you don't mind me asking - your friend, did he look just ... a little like me, or. ( this is still difficult to wrap his head around. ) Exactly like me?
no subject
Yes. Exactly like you.
video
That's...! Wait. Hold on.
You know, he could totally have thought his way to the truth of this one: "Not new," but no scar and no distantly haunted tinge to his expression should really tell him what's going on here. Even the idea of it - the tiniest possibility at all - makes his heart jump in his chest, lighter than it's felt in god only knows how long. Problem is, he's not sure he actually dares to hope, so he doesn't even let his brain attempt to process anything for certain before he picks up the connection and turns on his own video feed.
He looks rushed, a little wide-eyed, a little disbelieving... but maybe, maybe there's a glimmer of hope, too. ]
Huh? Me? Y-Yeah, I'm-- uh...
[ He swallows, aaaand he loses his own words. Good job, kid. ]
perma-video blah blah;
the look on his partner's face is one he's familiar with -- even if it looks a little more bewildered than usual, it's the one he'd been hoping would answer him when he called out to him. because something still feels wrong, out of place, that lingering tinge of worry and fear in the back of his mind like something tangible. something that he wants to let go of, but most certainly will not let go of him until it's quite finished.
but he smiles when yosuke answers him, because this is the one constant that he needs to keep himself tethered to the here-and-now, no matter what sort of space-nonsense he finds himself getting into. )
Hey. ( as if so much could be said with just one word, there's a softness in his voice that has only ever been meant for yosuke. never anyone else. ) I, um ... something feels weird. Why am I back on the Marsiva? Did I miss something?
no subject
But he does smile back - can't help it, wouldn't want to - even though it's small. That goes away at the mention of feeling weird, though. Now, he's just worried.
Calm down, Yosuke. ( yeah, 'cause he doesn't hear that in Yu's voice...) Gotta get to the bottom of this. ]
I... L-Look, this is gonna sound really weird, but uh... What's the last thing you remember? About-- anything.
[ Oh God, oh God. ]
no subject
... and asking him a question like that -
it gives him even more pause, and he absently chews his bottom lip as he gives it some serious thought. )
I was on my ship. The Wonderduck, cooking for the crew.
( he blinks, confused and all measure of befuddled. )
Why?
no subject
He cracks a smile - small, sad, a little bit rueful, and shakes his head. ]
'Cause that was like... months ago.
[ Yeah, just... let that sink in for a second. You know, while he sits there, pulse quickening, wondering if his daring to hope is actually gonna pay off, or if this is gonna crash and burn any second now. ]
S-So-- uh. [ Deep breaths, Yosuke! ] You... You left. But... you're back now?
[ He swallows... and then, his voice finally shakes a little. ]
It's really you, partner?
no subject
how is this supposed to make any measure of sense?
he takes a couple of deep breaths himself, looks away from the video for a small moment, trying to make some bit of sense of what yosuke's just said. except that nothing he can grab hold of seems to connect to anything else, and it leaves him feeling bereft, grasping at straws that are too short to keep a good hold on. )
Months? Months ago? How - ( he shakes his head. ) Okay. No. Whatever. I've heard weirder. But why don't I remember being gone?
( another beat of silence, and then he's calming down a little, taking in a few more deep breaths and then looking back into the feed. )
It's me. I promise.
a whole fucking month later jesus sorry
[ It's him. It's him, it's really him, and the next thing Yosuke knows, he's fighting back tears - much to his own annoyance, of course, because he shouldn't be crying!
That's for girls! Or something. But it's a lot to take in, and it's hitting him all at once, and he's relieved and happy and...!He looks directly at Yu, and he smiles. He can just... ignore the crying part, right? Right. Totally. ]
Well then, welcome back. Heh. I can't believe it! Man, so much weird crap happened while you were gone, but I... I-I was seriously starting to believe I wasn't gonna see you again. Not here, at least. I mean.
[ He's babbling. Stop him. fdsjakl ]
