[Another shuffle, another addition to the crew! Welcome Cole to your new shippy home!]

[This is a catch-all mingle post for anyone on the SS Wonderduck after this week's shuffle! The ship is docked on the planet for anyone who just wants to stop by for whatever reason! Feel free just to make your own subject thread with a prompt!]

[As usual, Kaneis can be found sitting in the pilot's seat in the cockpit. He's got his feet propped up against the control panels that don't seem to be on right now, and on the other end of a dashboard there looks to be a small purple plushie dragon and an ostrich bobble head. From the looks of it, Kaneis is reading a book with this cover]

[And since he's done the shuffle many times before and tends to be a pretty non-reactive guy? He just looks up and looks mildly curious at Cole. He doesn't even seem to react to the confetti fluttering over to his hair. Since realy, this happens a lot.]

Oh. What do you know, a new crewmate.

[A non-reaction is definitely more confusion than a reaction to Cole, but maybe people showing up out of nowhere is a routine thing. He doesn't know, he just got here and he'll just go with that instead of spending too much time thinking about pointless things like the amount of times it takes for people to get used to people showing up out of nowhere.]

Yeah, hi, that's me. You didn't answer my question.

[He gives a slight shrug at Cole]

Where you are? This is the SS Wonderduck. The bridge of it, anyway.

SS Wonderduck. [He ponders that for a moment before he laughs.] Nice name.

[Give him a moment to remember he has manners.]

Right, I'm Cole. Cole Turner. Nice to meet you.

Heh, yeah. It came with the name, but I've kinda grown fond of it.

[It's weird. It's memorable. You can give it great nicknames. What's not to love]

[But he gives a nod at the name.]

Kaneis Major. I'm the pilot of the ship. We have an engineer and cook too...somewhere. [Hell they're probably frolicking in flowers or something]

It's very unique. Kind of like a superhero name. "Don't worry, citizens, Wonderduck is here to save the day!"

[....Cole.]

So you're the guy to call to make sure we don't crash into something and die terrible deaths. Good to know. I'm sure I'll run into everyone else eventually and you can add communications officer to the list.

...Huh. [He seems to consider it for a moment] Kinda cheesy, but...maybe we could use it to get jobs.

[MAYBE. IT COULD USE SOME WORK]

Yep. Don't worry, it's been months since I've nearly crashed. [Which is said very casually before he moves on] And oh really? It's been awhile since we've had a communications officer. You haven't started yelling at me yet, so you're already more personable than the last one.

Hey, some people like kinda cheesy. It wouldn't be too hard to roll with. Crew of the Wonderduck, heroes of justice and vanquishers of evil.

[He does a heroic pose. Well, as much of one as he can do with one hand holding a plate and the other busy scooping up some more chocolate stuff to shove into his mouth.]

Oh good, I don't have to worry about dying again so soon. [He sounds so calm about that.] I try to wait until I know people before I yell at them. Makes it more fun for me because then I have a reason to.

[He makes an amused sound at that and the pose] Just as long as we can charge for that evil vanquishing.

[Not that he hasn't done it for free before, but you know, there does need to be making a living]

[And at that remark, he tilts his head]

Again?

Oh no, we're definitely going to charge for our services. Heroes of justice cannot live on only the praise of the adoring masses alone.

[He just shrugs and takes a moment to eat chocolatey goodness off his hand.]

I've died twice. Didn't really stick either time. [And he laughs brightly at his words.]

[Okay, that's surprising. And he actually shows a bit of surprise on his face]

Twice? [Da fuq] And I thought it was a big deal if you come back once.

[He grins pretty widely at that. Cole is really proud of the fact that he was able to come back once by himself and a second time with some help. No other demon can say that.]

Yeah, twice. First time, I had to drag myself out of hell and then the second time, my son had to bring me back.

[A frown forms on his face]

...Freaky.

[Yes. That is his eloquent response]

You have no idea. [He is way too chill about this.] So! Have you ever died?

[Yeah, even he's thinking that. And wtf does it take to crawl out of hell? Kaneis isn't sure he wants to know]

[But his face will go back to that neutral expression again]

Just the once.

[He grins and laughs cheerfully.]

Congratulations, you're in the company of those who died and lived to tell the tale. [And he laughs again because that was a great joke.] Plus, you did one better than me by only dying once.

[He's...really not sure how to feel about having that sort of company]

Yeah, well...it wasn't nearly as exciting as climbing out of hell- so I guess you have a leg up there.

[Yeah sorry Kaneis, the guy you're gonna be stuck working close to is out of his fucking mind.]

Not much can really top being as exciting as climbing out of hell. I mean, it's not like you were trying to go for a new and exciting way to come back to life. It's something to try for in the future if you die again!

[...yeah Cole, that's not creepy or anything.]

[yeah, not creepy in teh SLIGHTEST. Kaneis offers a thin, polite smile, as he wonders what the hell kind of crewmate they stuck him with]

I'll...pass on that, I think.

[It wasn't like he even asked to be brought back the first time, no way he's doing that mess again. But. Time for a subject change]

So. A son?

[Congratulations, you have turned Cole from creepy to proud and doting father.]

Oh yes! His name is Chris. He's a good kid, smart and brave and stubborn. I worry about him from time to time, but what parent doesn't? I mean, trouble seems to come after myself and the rest of his family, but there's also the fact that he's my son and I have plenty of enemies that'd try to use him to get at me. [And his expression changes to a soft smile.] He'd just tell me not to worry and that he can take care of himself because he's an adult now. It's my job to worry and I love him dearly.

[He laughs.]

But I'm rambling, I'm sorry. He's here in the fleet, on another ship. Maybe you've met him. Maybe you haven't. He's been here longer than I have.

[Okay so if the dead twice thing was weird? The loving father thing is EVEN WEIRDER. Because. yeah. Kaneis is pretty used to shit parents. Or parents who mention maybe one or two things at the best. ]

[So he's...not even sure how to respond to this. How do you do doting parents?? So there's a beat before he responds, the entire time he just stared at this guy like he's just seen a unicorn with a naked gnome riding on it running across the ship]

Uh...Chris, you said?

Um, yeah- I talked to him once. Seemed like a good guy.

[HOW IS BEING A GOOD PARENT WEIRDER THAN DYING TWICE omg kaneis you are so weird.

And Cole's just going to stare at him because wtf is wrong why are you looking at him like that.]

Oh! Well, he's a good kid. A little bit too serious at times, but that's nothing.

...and why are you looking at me like that.

[It's because he's from an RPG world Cole. Where everyone's parents are either dead, jackasses or crazy]

Huh?

[Oh. Right. Guess he is looking at Cole kinda funny.]

Oh! Sorry! It's just...I've read about doting loving parents, but to see one in reality...

It's kinda like spotting a unicorn.

[tbh, Charmed isn't much better when it comes to parents. Dead and missing parents galore.]

What? All parents should love and dote on their children and the ones who don't shouldn't be parents. Our job is to make sure our children have a better life than we had, not make things worse for our kids.

[HI GUESS WHO HAD A TERRIBLE PARENT AND A DEAD ONE WHO DIED TRYING TO SAVE HIM FROM THE TERRIBLE ONE.]

Hey, I'm not saying I disagree. It's actually a real refreshing thing to see!

[Seriously, there's nothing he hates more than a bad parent.]

It's not like I know all that many parents anyway, so that might skew things for me.
