[The transmission starts abruptly with a flash of red light. When the image clears, there's a few blades of grass in the way and a grotesque image of a man's back, only it's embedded with pieces of metal armor as well as what looks like an armored hand sticking out from the side. It's all the result of some hideous rebound. The man sways unbalanced and seemingly oblivious to the mess made upon his back. He stands there for a few seconds before stumbling forward and kneeling to something beyond the angle of the camera.]

Alphonse!? [There is the sound of banging on metal.] Alphonse! Dammit, answer me!

[There is nothing. No answer. Just silence.]

Say something you shitty brat! We were getting out of this shit hole together! Don't say you--

[And then, just like that, the feed cuts out without explanation.]

[ oh, fuck this and fuck you. she's just collecting up her things and she's on her way. discussing this is pointless. she can just go look, and feel, for herself. ]

Don't die before I get there.

[He clicks off the feed and soon forgets they even talked. She's not the only one who's managed to find him after all.]

[ it doesn't take long for her to find greed. he's like a beacon of terrible -- twisting chaos and darkness is kind of hard to ignore, especially in a city mostly full of normals. but when she finally arrives -- transformed, as sailor mars, just in case something else is lurking in the dark -- but before heading to where he is now, she asks around. snoops. goes to the park, soaks in the energy there, tries to figure out what happened.

if she remembers correctly, from how edward explained it (ages ago, eons), you get what you give. everything has an equal cause and effect, in their world. leaving...

eventually, mars finds her way to the huntress, but she hesitates before following greed's energy signature. common sense is telling her to remain transformed -- you never know what you're going to get, with energy like this, and she's able to fight a lot better this way. but her gut is telling her to walk in unarmed, and so when she eventually appears in the doorway, she's just rei again, though her tone is just as harsh as ever. ]

So? Is he alive?

[Greed was in his captain's quarters sitting on his bed. In front of him was a sizable pile of credits that he'd managed to earn through his less than legal activities on the station, as well as all his earnings from the Atroma prior to the account freeze. It was a large mess that he was casually picking up and dropping to hear the clatering sound it made. It clearly brought him no joy. For as much as he was ruled by avarice, having things didn't really seem to make him all that happy.

He stopped when she entered. His eyes were full of cold malice when he looked up.]

Who are you?

In no mood.

{ curtly, and her eyes wander slightly -- habit, really, to scan the room, to make sure it's safe -- but she remains in the doorway, crossing her arms over her chest. greed appears to be relatively fine, even if he still feels absolutely disgusting.

there might be a slight twitch in her cheek, as she's resisting the urge to make a face. ]

Disrupting the connections between universes can be a lot more deadly than just a botched transmutation. Is Alphonse still alive, or is he dead? It's a simple question.

[Oh. This was the 'don't make me kill you' woman who gave him so much grief. He's in a better mental state since then, but not by much. He gave up Alphonse to another ship, leaving him here to sort out what was missing from himself.]

I don't know. His blood seal is in tact, but he didn't wake up. If he does, there will be no repairing his body.

[Sure... it could be forged back together, but to his own understanding - those parts of his body wouldn't work again unless it was Edward or Father doing it.]

[ the blood seal is intact. that's good. and greed is telling the truth -- which is bad, because rei would rather hear anything else but the fact that his body might not be able to be put back together, but -- ]

Months. The prince did this with Al's brother from a place worse than this. It should have worked.

[Gluttony's stomach should have been inescapable. This place should have been easy by comparison. And yet... it had backfired.]

Universes like these have different rules.

[ and, finally, rei seems to relax half an inch. greed's presence is oppressive, but he's obviously not going to hurt her. not right now, anyway. ]

Assuming that your universe's rules about breaking through reality would apply here was your first mistake, which you two could've found out if you had just spoken to other people first.

[He scowls.] Is that supposed to be helpful? Don't assume you know everything.

[He doesn't like being called out on his mistakes even on his good days. Having it brought up when he'd just lost everyone that mattered to him was even less welcome just now.]

Don't assume you do, either. Not everything conforms to science.

[ but she seems to have hit the line she's willing to toe, and she draws in a deep breath, letting it out slowly. stuffing her hands into her pockets, still lingering by the door. ]

... did anything at all get through, or did it just completely backfire.

[One fist tightens and he makes himself look away to keep himself in check.]

... no. Not as far as I can tell. There's still... something missing.

[ of course. ]

... I can redraft notes and the spells we used in Adstringendum, to escape from there. Combining alchemy and ritual work might prove to be more powerful than just your skills alone.

[ she straightens, though, to go ]

[As ever, his dismissive tone makes it clear he had little chance of doing that. Maybe later he might be curious at the notion of combining techniques for escape - but it wasn't what was at the front of his mind just yet.]

[ the tone is fine, and she expects it -- but the seed being planted is all she requires, and she pushes her hair out of her face before drawing in a breath, straightening up to leave as quickly as she came.

time to go figure out what in the actual hell happened to alphonse. ]
