Who: a newly canon-updated peggy carter and YOU.
Broadcast: fleetwide video
Action: ss starstruck for crewmate and any visitors.
When: beginning today, but feel free to forward date something if you like.
VIDEO (FLEETWIDE)

[ stern-faced, peggy appears upon the network. ] Does 'zero matter' mean anything to anyone? Pointed, I know, and a bit a long shot...but -- if there's anywhere I might find some resource or knowledge about such matters, then the fleet is my best hope. Otherworldly mysteries are not well within my wheelhouse.

[ there are other questions she could ask -- but no, zero matter might be the safest inquiry out of a great many others. and even then, it's barely safe at all. but it must be asked, for now she feels most preoccupied with the work conducted back home. the fleet is almost a secondary thought -- a distant, archaic priority. ]

Alternatively -- [ she sighs. until now, she hasn't been agent cater within the fleet, much preferring to be the more social and civilian version of herself. ] -- I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more about worlds. Different worlds, universes, what have you. I know none have been successful in creating a rift between this place and any other but -- surely, such rifts must exist elsewhere.

ACTION (STARSTRUCK)

[ long story short: peggy carter took a nasty spill inside one of the sr shuttles, and is now back on her feet after being out cold for nearly a day. on the surface, it seems like nothing's the matter. not seriously so, at least. but as she goes about her ship duties, there's a glassy-eyed quality to her gaze. it takes her a little too long to remember someone's name -- as though she's reaching back by weeks or maybe months to recall details she'd been living every day.

find her in the kitchen, where she's preparing one of her two or three or sometimes four daily cups of tea. or find her in the cargo bay where she's trying to use the recreational equipment. she quickly gives up on the punching bag because although she no longer has stitches holding her guts together, there persists a tight ache in the flesh. she settles for the treadmill.

wherever else she might be encountered, her crankiness is persistent. ordinarily patient with her crew, peggy's kindness has been thinning out all week. she appears tightly wound and disengaged. ]

The belief is that First Impact occurred when a meteorite struck the Earth as it was forming. So, a very long time ago indeed. Second Impact took place in the year 2000.

[For what it's worth, he's relieved for her. It shows in the way his eyes curve with his smile.]

Probably for the best. No Angels that you've heard of?

That's also for the best. They're unruly creatures... They're trying very hard, and I understand that, but a world where Angels don't exist is probably what humankind needs.

The chaplain? [He's quizzical for a moment, before the realization hits him. He's so used to thinking of angels in the way that he's used to... but he remembers art and stories.] Oh, they aren't religious icons. They're a different sort of creature.

I don't think I mind. [He pauses, and then says, maybe more accurately,] I haven't been asked much about it.

The Angels were meant to inherit the Earth. But Lilin's... But humanity's mother bore life onto the planet. And that life flourished. [Deliberately, he inhales, and exhales.] I've seen paintings of the angels you're thinking of. Statues, too. Iconography. The Angels I know chose very different forms. They were great in body — they were sights that terrified the small and fragile Lilin. And they lived differently. Ceaselessly, in theory. They would have populated the Earth forever, and shined brightly. The Angels were denied their promised land. But they didn't serve a god. [Not exactly.] What they wanted was their mother. [Which he can understand. He was never there for them. But, he never had a mother there for him, either.]

However, that's not what fate decided for them, [he says abruptly. He doesn't quite frown.]

You could call it that. [Kaworu says it with sympathy, though gravity still grounds him.] After the Thirteenth Angel perished, one might guess that humans were the winning force. But their losses have been great.

It's true that humanity outnumbered the Angels to a great degree, even after Second Impact... But there was a much smaller selection of children who could pilot Evangelion. Fewer still who actually did. Lilin had many minds to put to the task of battle, while the Angels had more physical force. In the end, victory was granted not to the faction that fought best, but to who deserved it most.

[Kaworu's choosing his words carefully, but he speaks with a perceived ease when he says,] Angels or Lilin — it was the Thirteenth Angel's choice. Victory would be decided by the one who earned his empathy.

An interesting choice for him to make, right? In choosing humanity's side, that Angel could never deny that he was a traitor who brought about the utter ruin of his kind. He must have had a really good reason.

[It's like he's telling a bedtime story, or an account of something he's otherwise far removed from.]

Hmm. I wouldn't rule that out. A strong feeling, perhaps. Not what was right or wrong, but what he felt. Yeah, I can see something like that happening.
