Sixth Transmutation [Action + Voice/Video]

Who: Alphonse Elric and YOU
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Various; see prompts below. If you would rather do prose, I will match.
When: Between February 28th and March 6th

[ACTION # 1- While armor and still unconscious, February 28th-March 6th, various places]

[Eventually, somehow Al had been brought back to the Vanquish, to be laid out in the lab still in pieces while he was unconscious. Crewmembers and friends were, of course, free to visit him and try to wake him up, but they would get no response. Anybody with the ability to perceive his soul would find it was still there, but resting peacefully.

Al's mind was elsewhere, however- as far as he could perceive, he had gone back home, and the Drift Fleet was completely gone from his memories. He'd been deposited back into the snowstorm at the exact moment he'd left it. He'd gone to find Winry and Scar's group, to warn them of the danger at Briggs. Then he'd gone traveling, separated from Ed for months, helping Hohenheim, Scar and the others take the steps to lay the trap that would ultimately defeat Father. He had been captured by Pride, then freed just in time for the Promised Day. Eventually Ed, Teacher, Mustang, Hohenheim and many others had helped to bring Father down for good- though Al himself hadn't seen it, as he'd sacrificed his soul, reunited with his body so that Ed could have his arm back.

And towards the end- around March 5th or so- if anybody happened to be around in the lab, they would see Al's armor briefly disappear, dissolving into pieces and vanishing into thin air. However, it was only gone for a few moments before it was replaced by a blond-haired boy. Emaciated at first, the body would quickly gain back fat and muscle, until he looked normal and healthy.]

[ACTION # 2 - Vanquish, March 6th]

[Al could feel the coldness of a metal table underneath him when he came awake- which was strange, because he'd fallen asleep on the train to Xing, with Mr. Zampano and Mr. Jerso keeping watch, as they'd promised. He fought down the urge to panic, to wonder if somehow their enemies had come back and gotten ahold of him again... and when he opened his eyes, the memories came flooding back, and he knew where he was.

Back on the Vanquish. He'd gone home for more than two years, and had somehow, for some reason, been returned to the Drift Fleet. And, more than that, he remembered his and Ling's attempt to open the portal home, and something blocking them from leaving before he blacked out. But what had been in the way? And if the transmutation had so obviously failed, why had he gone home anyway just to come back as he was now?

He groped for his communicator, but knowing there was a chance that the entire "cast" he had known had been replaced in the meantime, decided to exercise caution and take a look around first. He decided to look for Clay first... and if not, find out who his new captain was and try to explain how and why he'd not woken up on the Marsiva as normal.

Once he learned that he'd only been gone a week here, he still took the time to look around the ship again, satisfy himself that everyone and everything was here- that Rogue and Katie and Hermione and Haruka and the others were all here and in their place. He also wanted to feel his home, really feel it with his hands and see it with his eyes and hear and smell it as he should have.]

[ACTION #3 - Wildcard, March 6th and afterward]

[Would you like to run into Al anywhere else? Name a time and place and he'll be there.]

[NETWORK BROADCAST- VOICE AND THEN VIDEO]

[What was Al going to say to everyone, when he knew his and Ling's attempt to leave had caused them to feel pain and loss? How could he make it up to them? Because he knew how they must be feeling. He was sure people would be relieved that he was OK, that he'd gone home, that he and Ed had won... but he knew some of them would be angry, too.

He cleared his throat and plunged in:]

Uhm... hi, everyone, it's me, Alphonse. I'm still not entirely clear on what happened yet, but I do know that in my mind, I went home for a while. I- I was apparently a mess back here, though. I'm so sorry that people had to see me in pieces and unresponsive. I know it had to have been scary, especially since Ling and I are the only ones who have any familiarity with alchemy.

The truth is that Greed and I were trying to transmute a way for us to go home, and it backfired. I should have known better... should have known that Atroma wasn't going to let us go that easily, and I should have told my friends here what I was up to, in case something did go wrong. I thought it would be easier for me to leave if you didn't know. And I know some of you are going to be angry, and that's okay. I'll do my best to earn your trust and forgiveness.

But I did want to say...

[He then flips on the video, showing that he was a normal human again- short-cropped gold hair, golden eyes, the whole works, and smiles shyly.]

I got my body back. This... this is the real me. And part of me is glad to be back just so my friends could see it.

[Eugene's mostly been at the fringes of what's happening with Al. It only seems fair, considering his . . . overall less than stellar social skills for the past few months. But he drifts past the lab more than a few times, and when he sees Katie in there and looking quite a bit more tired than the last time he saw her, he raps lightly on the doorframe, leaning in.]

-hey. Doing okay in here?
flickerflash: (today's been shitty don't make it worse)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-03-07 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Katie leans on the table and blinks at Eugene a little owlishly, before glancing down at the work she's done. Well... it looks more like a suit of armour with some pieces broken now, rather than just a pile of haphazard metal. Um.]

Yes, I think so. Very well rested. I could dance all night. [She wipes at an eye with one sleeve, and tries not to yawn.]
survivalistcookbook: (conversational)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-07 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
You're sure? Not in the mood for a macaroni and cheese break just yet?

[He walks over to examine the work she's done, blinking in mild surprise at the work on the armour. It looks . . . better. A lot better.]
flickerflash: (side eye)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-03-07 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh. Food! By Eugene! Despite her exhaustion, she brightens and gives him a hopeful smile.]

Definitely not in the mood. But you have to eat three meals a day, don't you? Or you just fall right over. I suppose I should eat something.

[Mac and cheese sounds delicious. But also, being around a good cook while he cooks would probably be good for her. She found that out with Sanji.]
survivalistcookbook: (grin down)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-14 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not a strict three, but- yeah. After a certain point, skipping meals does a lot more harm than good.

[He beckons her toward the door with a spare gesture, giving her an encouraging little smile of his own. It's hard not to, with even that small hint she might be amenable to coming along.]

C'mon. You can tell me what add-ins you want.
flickerflash: (you keep using that word)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-03-14 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I can have add-ins?

[Yep, she trots toward the door, though her first steps are a little stumbly as she moves away from the table.] Does fish taste any good in mac and cheese? I've never tried it, and I wouldn't want to ruin it.
survivalistcookbook: (Glancing up)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-14 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoop- careful.

[He hangs at her elbow about as well as he can, accompanying her to the kitchen.]

See, personally, I think smoked fish is amazing is almost anything, and mac and cheese is no exception. But canned tuna and vegetables is a classic variation too.
flickerflash: (teehee)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-03-14 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, tuna... [That or smoked fish. Not so much the vegetables, but they'd be a sacrifice she's willing to make.]

I don't suppose we have any normal everyday tuna out here. [The further she walks, the more she finds her legs at least, so she stops leaning so much by the wall and trotting towards the kitchen.] Space needs to have home delivery from London supermarkets. That would be nice. Though I suppose it would take forever, and all the food would be rotten.

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-15 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, tell me about it. There was this stand at Borough Market that had this amazing steak and stilton pie. I want to know where the sponsor is who can bring us a dozen of those.

[He picks his way to the counter and gets to work, putting on a pot of water to boil.]

What do you miss?
flickerflash: (side eye)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-03-17 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Just the idea of a steak and stilton pie is enough to make her stomach grumble. She misses good food from home so much.]

Chips! [Said promptly. She misses a lot of things and this by no mean the most missed, but she's had a craving of late. She sits at the kitchen table, slouching forward to watch him while he works.] Fish and chips down by the sea. I liked throwing mine to all the seagulls.
survivalistcookbook: (Glancing up)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-21 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, chips. I still haven't mastered chips. Or found a place yet with something that's quite malt vinegar.

[Sure, they have decently cheesy protein goop, but Eugene starts on a roux anyway. Just something to warm the fish and vegetables in before he dumps in the drained pasta.]

Where were you living, before all of this?
flickerflash: (piggyback)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-03-21 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
I lived in a few places! Around Swindon generally, though.

Have you never cooked chips before? [She's curious. Maybe chips just aren't easy with these weird kitchens. Katie yawns, smiling a little.] My mum never let me try. She thought I'd burn myself.
survivalistcookbook: (grin down)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly? Usually it was easier to just buy them. But I did sometimes, if I could get my hands on a deep-fryer or a reliable stovetop with a good thermometer. [He casts a half-grin over his shoulder.] All of those are in pretty short supply around here. Plus it's hard to scrape together that much oil from the rations.
flickerflash: (eh them's the breaks)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-04-03 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's a shame. You'd think the future would have vending machines that sold hot chips by now.
survivalistcookbook: (the hell you say)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-04-11 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
You'd think. [He dispenses out some cheese paste, frowning.] Man. I hope chips aren't just an Earth thing.
flickerflash: (do you promise?)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-04-11 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
If they are, we'll just have to introduce as many aliens as possible to them. Nobody should go without hot chips.

[She yawns widely.]
