Hi, everyone. I'm Hera, for those who are new or haven't spoken to me before. I'm your pilot and - as of today - captain. I know it's not a big deal here, but I was a captain back home, so I take it pretty seriously, and I just wanted to lay out a few ground rules and make a couple of announcements.

First and foremost, if I give you an order, I expect it to be followed. I don't give orders lightly, or for my own entertainment. If you think I've given you an unreasonable order, you're welcome to talk to me about it, but trust me when I say, I do it for the good of everyone on board.

Second, as of right now, we have more than enough bunks for everyone, so no one should have to share, or sleep on the floor, or anything like that. As long as there aren't any funny smells coming from your bunk, I don't care what you do in there.

Next, and especially for those new here, we do currently have cargo in the cargo bay. I ask that you don't mess with it, because it doesn't belong to us. We've scanned it, and we're relatively sure there's nothing dangerous in there, but the station has flagged it as contraband, so there's no sense risking getting into trouble just to satisfy your curiosity. If you have a legitimate reason for wanting to get into it, come talk to me so I can do a risk assessment.

Also, guests are always welcome aboard, but I do want to know who is on my ship at any given time, so just let me know when you invite people from other ships.

Finally, I just want to welcome our new crew members and let everyone know that if you have any concerns, you can always talk to me about them. We all have to share this space, and I want everyone to be as comfortable as possible.

I think it is a little unreasonable to ask for trust when we do not know each other very well. Not to say your motives are sinister, but there should be more laid in the groundwork for the name of trust.

And your alternative would be what? Paranoia and suspicion? That doesn't sound very productive to me. [ If this guy is going to be a problem, though, she'd rather know now. ]

I do not recall suggesting such an alternative. Nor was I aware that asking for something substantial in terms of trust was so offensive.

And what "substantial" thing would you like me to provide? We're all in the same situation here, so at some point we all have to give each other the benefit of the doubt.

Yes, but you are also the captain. If someone unknown told you that they were leading your rebel group and you simply had to trust and not know anything about them, would you?

After a certain point, yes, we do actually have to trust people. Sometimes, people turn on us. But when it comes to what I do? We have to work with what we can get.

So, I ask you again: what other assurance do you think I can provide, given the circumstances? I'm sorry we're all stuck here together, but I can't change that, so you'll just have to take my word for it that I'm not planning to harm you or anyone else on this ship. Same as I have to do with you, funny enough.

[ He smiles, glibly. ]

Thankfully, I do not have a position like that on the ship. But you made my point. After a certain point. I'm not asking for your deepest secrets but perhaps it would be helpful to know more about you than simply your name? So that we, the crew, can get to know you a little better.

What position? To cause harm to other people on this ship? We're all in that position. So, again, we all just have to trust each other not to.

[ She gives him a haughty look. ]

Like I said, I've been a ship captain for a long time. What else do you think you need to know? And if you're so concerned about trusting a stranger, why are you even willing to take my word for it?

. . . I meant the position of tactical support. I'm afraid I'm not following your train of thought very well.

[ He's still not defensive or annoyed. His calm remains, though he remains quizzical about her abrupt temper. ]

Why not? I have no reason not to take you by your word. But again, I do not know you either.

[ Well. He does know but that card is best left to the side by now. ]

[ Hera makes an annoyed sort of sound in her throat. ]

This conversation is pointless. You basically said that you have no reason to trust me, and now you're saying you have no reason not to. So either you do, and you accept the very basic rules I've laid out, or you don't. If you don't, I'd like to talk about why, or if you really have a problem with me, you can transfer to another ship. Simple.

[ He sighs. It can't be helped. He's never been good with simple authority. ]

Very well. I shall seek another ship to keep the peace. I don't know what I expected from the daughter of Cham Syndulla.
