[it seems it's question hour again. this seems to be orion's favorite way to do things.]

What do you miss most about your home world?

The X-Men. Do you know Rogue or Kurt? They've been here the longest, but there's been a flood of us in the last month. Lucky Fleet.

... Rogue is the Vanquish's first mate, right?

[with clay being the captain, that's where he'd know her name. stupid adorable bestie.]

That's her. We're not from the same reality, but we both know a version of each other. [So casual about it. Even if she hadn't had over a month to adjust here and almost a year in the prison it's still not exactly something that would sound out of place back home.]

[it doesn't sound out of place for him, either.]

... Do "The Avengers" ring a bell for you?

Not from home, but the Logan who's here said he was an X-Man and an Avenger. And I'm on the Windrose with The Vision. [And Natasha, but she didn't mention being an Avenger.]

Are you one?

Not even close.

... But in The Vision's world, I am. Natasha's, too, if you know her.

[That makes sense to her. Natasha had the feel of someone extremely competent which doesn't necessarily equal being on a super team, but in the context of Kitty's life it makes as much or more sense than anything else.] My captain. Sure.

[She tilts her head.] There are a couple of people here I recognize as X-Men who actually fought against the X-Men in their worlds. [Though the relationships were complicated. Seemed like there were still friendships bridging those gaps.] That kind of where you landed? ["Not even close" made is seem likely.]

Uhh, yeah. Pretty much. In my world, I'm Commander. The Winter Soldier. The Avengers are kind of everything my side stands against.

In Natasha's world, I'm Steve Rogers. Captain America.

[That doesn't sound particularly good, but he's been good company so far. The benefit of a doubt is his.] What does your side stand for?

Global peace and protection. In my world, they're a terrorist group.

[it's a skewed viewpoint, but it's how he sees things.]

Those sound like good goals. Things have a way of evolving differently world to world. Wouldn't be much sense having different worlds if they didn't.

That's how I feel about it.

[or how he did when he got here. how he wants to. how he's convincing himself he does.]

You ever meet a double of yours?

Yep. There was a younger version of me at the prison. Which is where I was after home and before here.

You too?

Nah. Avoided him. Feel like he's the kinda guy I'd punch in the face.

Well, we're all our own worst enemies, right? [She smirks a bit.] Captain America does sound a little cheesy though. [But...] You have any grudges with the Avengers here? [Because she did like The Vision right away and Natasha too really. Not to mention Kate even if she counted herself among the Young Avengers.]

... Had a little trouble with Natasha, when I got here. But we worked it out. The rest of them, I mostly avoided. They all... really like that Steve guy. Kinda bugs 'em when they see me.

Hard position for all of you. Even when you're on the same side and it's good to see them and be seen there's always a little bit of wishing they were someone else and knowing they probably feel the same way.

Not a bit of probability there.

[he huffs.]

On their end, at least. I kind of prefer the ones here.

Well, that's something since you're all here. Fleet-wide peace and protection? [There's a little smile.]

... Yeah.

[there's a smile in return again, at last. that's right. the life he has here is.. something he can focus on. something he can affect.]

We're doing what we can to keep people safe and happy. Especially those who can't do what we can.

And what can we do? I see the arm. What else have you got?

The ability to take a punch.

[he grins a little sharper.]

And bench a horse.

It's almost like you're daring me. [That's silly. She doesn't want to punch him.]

Now when you say bench a horse, is that more of a creative strength challenge or do you coach an all-horse basketball league where sometimes you have to put them on the bench for acting out on the court? The first one is okay, but I'll really be impressed with the second.

[he pauses for a good long moment. and then, abruptly:]

The problem with horses is that they're really stubborn, you see, and they have trouble discerning which basket they're supposed to be getting the ball into, plus they use their feet too much, and that's against the rules--

[Okay. You win. She likes you.]

The shoes probably scuff up the court too. It's a mess out there.
