You would think so, but it was a harsh world. Even people from my own family did not wish to reside there. We mostly stayed out of necessity.

But I loved it so.

Ah, well. The Fremen are a warrior life. We deal with certain realities very . . . stringently. I got my first knife when I was three, for example.

It's not as terrible as it sounds, it's simply our way. The ways have changed a little now, though I hesitate to say it is for the best. Our harshness kept us alive, prepared.

It is not a bad thing.
