[ The feed opens on what appears to be nothing more than a nest of darkness, shifting only when the figure that owns it shifts. It turns out to be dark, matted hair, sticking to pale skin and only separating through small slits as gloved fingers move and press the stands away - both sweat and blood bead against her face and she sits up, breathing out hard and pushing herself away from the bed with a quick, jerking motion, as if afraid of her own shadow. Her fingers shake and her skin pale and marred, streaks of blood decorating her like an artist's paintbrush against a scarred canvas.

It takes her a little while, but she finally pushes herself up. There is silence for a moment, only broken by the sound of her heavy breathing, until her hands reach out and pick up the device. The feed itself shakes with her fingertips, almost more bone than flesh, until she speaks, voice low and hoarse, exhausted. ]

Where am I.

[ Anyone currently on board the Marsiva will find her on the same bed she had woken up on, surrounded by what seems to be a circle of red with her legs tucked under her - what, exactly, she had been doing was a matter worth debating, but she seemed fit to faint under the weight of nothing sooner than she would be fit to explain anything. ]

[ ... She stares blankly for a moment, utterly confused. ]

A tee-vee. [ She looks down at her gloved hands, as if to check that she has more than three fingers. ] I do not know what a tee-vee is, or why I ought to use it as fair comparison.

[ It's obvious that Lauralae does perk up at the latter, though. ]

I know of those things. Wolves that prowl under full moons and wailing wraiths that threaten all those that come too close.

[frigidaire]

You don't know what a TV is?

[ he's met people from the future, but not really anyone from a place that didn't have modern technology like he's used to. ] You know, it's a box and has shows and stuff. Movies sometimes.

[ but when she perks up about the werewolves and wraiths? that has him slightly suspicious. ] Right so you have a thing for the supernatural, but you don't know what a television is...?

[fuga]

I do not.

[ She watches him, gaze as intense as ever, but no recognition comes over her features. She just seems lost and trying to hide it, as if the hardness of her gaze might disguise the gaps in her knowledge. ]

I have not heard of such things. Television. Movies. Shows.

[ Lauralae frowns, then. ]

Do troupes perform inside boxes? It seems so foolish a venture.

[frigidaire]

Uh, no. It's -- you know what, never mind. When you get to a ship turn on your communicator -- there are movies on there. Watch one.

[ there are some scarring ones, too. don't worry, he'll give her the worst recommendations. ]

TVs can be a bunch of different sizes. Like you're on the communicator right now so that's sort of like a TV. Man this place is going to suck for you.

[ Isaac is very helpful. Very. ]

[fuga]

I see.

[ When she gets to her ship. So she will be moved again - and that irritates her, the idea of it grating on her nerves, but she shoves it all to one side. All she cares about is finding a place to offer her prayers, and the idea that she cannot... That grates, too.

She could go on and comment more about how she has no idea what he is talking about, but she decides it will be a waste of time. Instead - ]

You have a name.

[frigidaire]

Yeah, you say that, but I don't think you do. But, uh. Sure.

[ he's so confused. how does anyone not know about TV or movies? of course every world is different, but even that concept is a bit too broad even for Isaac. ]

Yeah, I have a name. It's Isaac. Do you not have names where you're from, either?

[ he's very concerned, okay. ]

[fuga]

[ There's no point commenting on that, because it would be simply acknowledging the fact that she doesn't understand what he is talking about. Instead, she turns her gaze away, frowning. ]

We have names. Sometimes, people have too many.

[ Rude much. ]

Lauralae.

[frigidaire]

Yeah, that's true.

[ he doesn't even mean to be rude, but it's just second nature for him. he has a deep, ongoing problem with his brain to mouth filter. ]

I'm Isaac. I've been here a few months, anyway. You'll get used to it eventually. Space is weird.

[fuga]

[ Oddly enough, she finds him refreshing; at least he is honest, which is more than can be said for most people. ]

Weird. [ And he actually manages to draw a small, thin smile out of her. Miracles. ] Certainly. I will hold you to your word, Isaac.

[frigidaire]

I mean don't go that far. You don't know what TV is and you're gonna try to know what a space ship is, so. That's a big jump.

[ he's not the brightest woof in the galaxy, okay? give him a break. ]

But yeah. Uh. I guess if you have questions I can try to help.

[fuga]

I will keep that in mind.

[ She turns her head, then, and her hood falls, dropping to one side. There, Isaac might see the fact that she has clearly cut off her own ears, scarred and shredded at the tip, even if she says nothing of it. ]

Will you show me a movie?

[frigidaire]

[ ... oh yeah, he definitely sees her ears and makes a face. being Mr. Tactful, he blurts: ] Well that looks painful.

[ again. out of all the crayons in the box, he is certainly not the brightest. Isaac blinks at her question. ] Oh. Uh. Yeah. When you get assigned to a ship I can. What do you -- never mind.

[ do not ask the not-space girl what movie she wants to watch. he sighs. ]

[ She tenses, instantly, as if she's become a statue, and lifts her hood back over her face without pausing. It's easier for her to ignore the comment and focus on what comes next, thankfully. ]

I will speak with you when I have moved. [ She pauses, considering. ] Will I come to you?

[frigidaire]

Proooobably better to let me come to you. Don't think you'll be very good at flying a shuttle.

[ or being in one. but hey, if she's feeling adventurous. ]

Then it shall be so. I will inform you.

[ If she can figure out how... ]
