[As is common with new arrivals, there are a few very confused moments of waking up and scrambling around before the Fleet's newest arrival manages to find and switch off the nearest camera.

About half an hour later and significantly less panicked-looking, he switches it back on. Some quality time spent with his augment answered the pressing questions, like where am I and why aren't there any weapons here, and that he's not going to get an answer to are my friends okay without a little further input from him. So. If they're here, he reasons, they'll recognize him.]

Shouldn't there be more people here? Or do I get to be the only lucky winner this week?

The name's Finn. There are people on the other ships out there, right?

[Look it's very lonely on the Marsiva right now.]

[HELLO THERE SIR you sure do look like a Jedi right out of some old holonovela. Pardon Finn's boggled look for a moment; he'll blink and give a quick shake of his head soon enough.]

A girl named Rey from Jakku? But I don't think she's here.

[He doesn't know why he's so sure, but it probably has something to do with her not instantly responding to his broadcast. He'd do that for her, after all.]

Jakku?

[ That dustball of a planet? That often makes Tattooine look like a veritable paradise. ]

I do not believe so. I think we would know if someone from Jakku was here.

[ Seriously. Jakku. ]

[Thank you, it's a waste of a planet. Finn nods.]

You're...not Luke Skywalker, are you?

[He sounds unsure about this.]

[ He blinks. ]

I think I'm a little old to be Luke Skywalker. I -- was his Master, apparently though.

No, he's--

[Finn checks himself and snaps his mouth shut. Kenobi sounds vaguely familiar. Could it be true?]

Don't tell me this is time travel and I got sent back to the Republic?

I would not call it time travel. Time displacement seems more likely, considering none of us are in our original galaxy.

[ He pauses. ] I am Obi-Wan Kenobi. I was still fighting the Clone Wars.

Displacement. Okay. Okay, I can get that.

I thought that would be right. [He paid attention in his Rise of the Empire indoctrination classes well enough, it seems.] Honor to meet you, General Kenobi.

Please, just call me Obi-Wan. Rank means little here.

So I take it, you come from a time after the Empire was defeated, correct?

Uh, Oni-Wan then. [That's going to take some getting used to.]

About thirty years ago, yeah. So you're not really too old to be Skywalker. [Too young, if anything.]

I see. And why, may I ask, are you searching for Luke Skywalker?

[Finn frowns. When did it become his quest, anyway? When he promised BB-8 he'd help, he supposes.]

He's been missing. Solo thinks he went in search of the First Jedi Temple, but it's been years. And--we need him. The Dark Side's rising.

The . . . First Jedi Temple?

[ There were many to be considered the "first". Obi-Wan could narrow them down, but he would need the Archives. ]

What do you mean, the dark side is rising? Palpatine is dead, is he not?

That's what he said, but all I know is he's been out of the picture for a while.

Yeah, he is. Battle of Endor.

[He grimaces. That should have been the end of it - and it was, for a long time, at least that anyone really knew.]

But it's--[he concentrates, trying to remember the way Maz had put it]--like a pendulum, and it keeps swinging back unless there are people to keep the balance.

. . . And there was no balance after his death.

[ His expression grows somber. Anakin was meant to bring balance to the Force. Now, with him gone and even Luke's existence could not guarantee a galaxy in balance. Was there no way? Were the Jedi and the Sith meant to repeat the cycle?

Was balance only ever achieved in the brief throes of death on Mortis? ]

It worked for a while. And I think we can make it work again, but we have to do something. If we just ignore it, the same thing will happen all over again.

[He realizes that now, that running away isn't going to change anything.]

We can still make a difference. I believe that.

[ Not something he says often. Obi-Wan doesn't believe in luck, but Finn doesn't need to know that. ]

[He'll take it.]

[He pauses.]

So, uh. Do you have your lightsaber here?

I'm afraid not. Why do you ask?

[ That was a strange query. ]

Twice now I got stuck in a battle with nothing but a lightsaber, and I'm no Jedi. I feel like I ought to learn how to use one before it happens a third time.

[ Curiously. ]

If Luke is missing, how did you get your hands on one?

I'm holding onto it for now. See, we're trying to find him--General Organa is, I mean. And it's connected somehow? We were kind of being attacked when I got it.

[ He considers this carefully. ]

I can train you, though there are plenty of Jedi here for you to choose from. I specialize in Form III known as Soresu. It is a defensive style.

[Finn's eyes widen. Plenty of Jedi?] There are? Are you all from different times?

[Defense sounds...really good, actually. All he'd ever needed to do was hold off opponents long enough for backup.] I don't know anything about forms, but if you can help me not get stabbed, I'll take whatever I can get.

Yes. Anakin and Ahsoka are from my time. Luke is here as well, albeit far younger than you would expect him to be. And there are two other Jedi from the Old Republic.

[ He smiles a little. ] Soresu is an excellent form for deflecting blaster bolts.

["Anakin" fortunately does not ring a bell. But Luke being here--even if younger--is important. Finn's brow furrows.]

So he probably didn't disappear to here. Huh. Guess we still have to look for him in my time.

[Oh, he likes that idea.] That'd be real good.
