02 - Flicker of a Candle

[When Yang turns on her communicator's video feed, one would assume she is broadcasting from her own bunkroom aboard the Bishop; however, Wonderduck crew members will likely recognize the room as one on their ship. In fact, it's more than likely they've seen Yang coming and going fairly often the past couple of days, as she's been visiting her seemingly unconscious partner, Blake Belladona.]

[After she passed out during the meeting between Blake, Yang, Penny and Pyrrha, Yang had carried her back to Blake's bunkroom on the Wonderduck, and ever since she's been checking in on her. Each time, leaving more and more concerned about the state of her friend. From what she'd been able to pull from the fleet's archives, this kind of thing was not exactly a rare occurrence; yet, it still had Yang worried. After several days of just sitting and waiting, her impatience gets the better of her, and that's what causes her to flip on her communicator and set it broadcast fleetwide. Maybe she can get some answers or find some small comfort from other fleet members who have some experience dealing with this kind of thing.]

Hey everyone...

So, from what I've gathered, it's not exactly odd for people in the fleet to more or less drop unconscious for a little while, only to wake up later a little different.

[A slighly worried look off screen before she returns to addressing the communicator.]

But how long usually does this whole coma-like sleeping thing typically go for? And... when people DO wake up... is it usually bad? I mean, like... do they wake up still as themselves? Or only after something "else" has happened to them?

Am I even making sense?

[That last question addressed more to herself. She sighs, shakes her head. Tries to sound a little more cheery, with only moderate success.]

Anyways, yeah, any advice or answers anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

[Well, a few days after Yang makes this post, Blake finally starts to stir again.

She's clutching at her side, but that isn't too weird, right?]

[Yang is just now entering Blake's room, having been planet-side for a little while. At first, she doesn't notice anything. Blake's position having not really shifted all that much, but then her little movements catch Yang's eye.]

Blake?

[Her voice soft, not quite a whisper, but lower than her normal speaking volume.]

[Her eyes snap open when she hears that voice, focusing instantly on Yang in panic, and she practically leaps out of the bed.

... And immediately stumbles and nearly falls because she hasn't been upright in a few weeks thanks to this coma.]

[Blake's somewhat violent wake-up startles Yang too, but she recovers a bit more quickly and gracefully than Blake.]

Whoa! Jeez, Blake, you scared me.

{She giggles a little at the somewhat goofiness of it all.]

Are you okay? Do you know where you are?

Yang-? How are you here- What happened-?!

[Her eyes flick back and forth between Yang and the exit, like she's trying to decide if she can make it there. Like she expects Yang to stop her if she bolts, really.

Until she stops, staring down at Yang's right arm.]

Well, I mean, I'm the one that brought you here. You passed out during that meeting with Penny and Pyrrha. Everyone's been really worried about you.

[Yang follows Blake's gaze, first to the door--odd, but she doesn't really question it. Then she notices Blake starring at her arm. It lasts a moment enough for her to feel awkward about it. She waves in front of Blake's face in a "Earth to Blake, are you there, Blake?" gesture.]

[that snaps her out of it, and she takes an unsteady step backwards.]

You- Wait, meeting with- Penny and Pyrrha? But, they're...

[hold on. you can see her brain starting to catch up with current events.]

This... This is the Fleet, isn't it.

[onlyburnhotter]

[Yang lets out a small sigh, knowing where Blake's thoughts are likely going. She can't really blame her for feeling distraught over being back, especially if she was where Yang thinks she was during her period of unconsciousness.]

Yeah, you're back at the Fleet.

I'm guess... you were back home, weren't you? Back in Remnant?

[she puts a hand to her face, trying to process everything. Her other hand drifts down to her side, where she's supposed to have a stab wound, even if she can't feel it there anymore...]

... I was.

[onlyburnhotter]

Do you... do you remember everything that Penny and Pyrrha told us? About what happens back home?

[fedupwithyourbull]

... I do. And... what happened after.

[she's tense, like she's getting ready to bolt.]

[onlyburnhotter]

So then... were they right?

[Yang already knows the answer in her gut, but she nears to hear it from Blake, her partner, someone she trusts.]

[She looks away.]

... Beacon is gone.

[Yang's heart skips a beat. Her expression becoming much more somber.]

So, it's true... Penny and Pyrrha then... back home, they're...

They're gone. And Vale has been overrun. There was- a giant Grimm, a dragon, but we weren't there for that, we-...

[She cuts herself off with a sharp breath.]

[onlyburnhotter]

We weren't there? What do you mean?

[That bad feeling in her gut continues to build. Something wasn't right. The way Blake was acting, the way she was skirting around her words... Still, Yang needs to know.]

... I'm sorry, Yang, I'm- I'm so sorry, he...

[yeah that probably doesn't help you feel any better, does it]

[Yang's worried now. Not for herself, but for Blake. Whatever this was, it clearly has her freaked. She reaches out with her hands, putting them on her partner's shoulders, trying to reassure her.]

I'm sorry, Blake. I shouldn't be pushing you.

It's okay. Just take a moment, take a few deep breaths. When you're ready, then go ahead. I'm right here for you, okay?

[She looks even more freaked out at Yang's hands on her, honestly.]

I- I shouldn't be here, I have to leave.

[onlyburnhotter]

[Yang immediately lets her go. Clearly that was the wrong move, which naturally worries her. Blake is very much freaked out, and Yang's not sure what to do.]

No, no. It's okay.

[Yang stands up.]

It's your room, I'll go. Just... when you feel like talking, let me know, okay?

[A sad smile finds its way to Yang's face, and she turns to exit.]

Yang, wait-!

[okay, now she's not making any sense and she knows it. Her bow is pinned back flat against her head, and she doesn't even seem to care about how obvious she's being. She needs to hide from Yang, to run away, to make sure Yang isn't hurt... But also, she needs Yang there, because as fucked up as she is, Yang's presence is always helpful.

She's a gay mess, basically.]

[Yang stops, and turns back to face Blake. A warm, sympathetic smile on her face. If she's annoyed at all by Blake's mood swings, she doesn't show it. She leans against a nearby wall, looking as calm, nonchalant and happy as usual.]

I'm here.

[she takes a deep breath. Yang is between her and the door, so it's not like she can escape even if she wants to. Maybe... All she can do now is tell Yang what happened. Maybe, once Yang knows what happened, she'll get mad and leave. That's what she needs- Yang needs to leave. That way, if they aren't together, Adam won't hurt her anymore. Yang will survive. Hell, if Yang hates her too much to come for her when Yang goes back home, maybe all of this will be averted.]

... It wasn't just Grimm. The White Fang was there too.

[Yang nods her head, understanding.]

That makes sense. After all, Torchwick had partnered with them, and, if he was working for Cinder, then it makes sense that they would be involved.
